I think a price increase will happen if Apple upgrades the storage. I think that will be how a 256GB stays the same price as the 256GB 14 Pro Max. It just will be a higher cost to entry. I don’t know what the numbers are, but I have to assume that the majority of Pro iPhone users want more storage.
Going to go on a limb and say this isn't the case especially with the base model laptops always being the biggest sellers. Most users 128gb is plenty (and they would much rather save $$ than have to spend more for storage they don't need).

These are some big jumps!

Plus moving to an actual new gen node in 3nm plus the display driver IC also shrinking and getting more efficient, the 15 line may (again, but more so) be battery life beasts

Unless they decided to blow those efficiency and battery "skill points" so to speak on regaining total performance dominance and jumping far ahead again, but I don't think that's Apple like and they'll rather spend some on performance and some on better efficiency

But yeah, it's kind of wild that the regular Pro has already weighted the same as the XS Max now, and the Maxes are that much more, but maybe titanium will offset this somewhat

Hopefully they get a manufacturer that improves their longevity as well. My iPhone 14 Pro Max that I got on launch day is already at 88% maximum capacity. 🥴
Im using my phone less than last years 13 Pro Max so I’m assuming it’s just the quality of the battery.

None of that answers the question and is just deflecting. Apple cheaped out and could have included the bigger batteries.
I mean, I’m not trying to justify Apple, but trying to find a sensible reason or explanation to the smaller battery. Aside from the much more efficient SoC, keep in mind that on the same size as the regular 15 (or maybe less, because as far as I know the regular 15 will be slightly bigger than the 15Pro) they have to fit the battery, the logic board and the camera system. And just by watching the dummy units from the main article’s photography, you can see the camera system on the Pro models takes much more room of the limited space the iPhone offers.

Apple does not give things away for free. Expect a premium just because they are able to. The increase of start storage to 256GB comes with a trade-off probably limiting camera performance due to higher quality and therefore leading to storage limitations. The storage forced upgrade tactic is a great one.

Thicker battery might explain for more power hungry components.

Yeah. Nothing amazing happening here.

The iPhone sends usage data to their servers so they know exactly how the majority use the iPhone and how to exploit it in their sales tactic.

Their 500 charge cycle rating is still with the 5w brick standard afaik

So what happens when each phone can fast charge faster and faster...They don't make that clear.

it will still maintain the same duration of total call & standby hour. Due to slightly powerful SoC. :D

Starting at 256GB, we can now expect

$1199. iPhone 15 Pro Max
$1099 iPhone 15 Pro

$899 iPhone 15 Plus
$799. iPhone 15

$799. iPhone 14 Plus
$699. iPhone 14

$599. iPhone 13
$499, iPhone 13 Mini

$429. iPhone SE

Although I think it probably make more sense to drop the iPhone 13 Mini altogether and release iPhone SE 2024 with Mini Size at $449.

I use the 12mini.

Last week I was visiting a larger city.
Using Airpods and Maps every now and then my phone would give me about 4-5h of usage.
That is just bad.
Imagine I was using an Apple Watch as well.

At this point iPhones are very far from having a great battery life.
My opinion.
Happy to hear your thoughts!

Well, the 12 Mini has the worst battery in the lineup. That amount of usage sounds right to me, especially if it's not a brand new model. Also everyone's usage and cellular strength will contribute to varied battery results.

My 14 Pro Max already easily lasts me most days but hey not gonna complain about bigger batteries. That would put them in line with Android phones with big batteries but A-series are still more efficient (though the gap is much smaller than ever before) so this should lead to some kick ass battery life.

How come those dummy non-pro models still have the same diagonal camera layout? Were not they meant to go back to the vertical, as they were with iPhone 12?
The diagonal camera layouts for the non-Pro 13 and 14 are due to those models using larger main camera sensors (47% larger vs. the 12) and sensor-shift image stabilization mechanics. The diagonal spacing provides more room for these components, similar to how the main camera on the Pro model is diagonally offset from the telephoto and wide cameras. It's unlikely Apple will go back to the vertical layout unless they significantly expand the area of the camera bump.

It was shifted to diagonal for the 13 mini model to still fit MagSafe accessories

I really hope they bring ack the 5.4” screen size as the next SE. Holding on to my 12 mini for dear life.
