At this point, it's important to take the second claim about Force Touch sensitive functions with a pinch of salt.
Is pinch a greater amount than a grain? What are the quantities at which salt must be taken, and what does each amount imply?

A heaping of salt is certainly more than a pinch, and a pinch is certainly more than a grain…

…but when rumors are usually taken with a grain of salt, and pinch implies we should have less faith in the credibility of the rumor.

🧐 please help. I am very thirsty to know what the answer is now.

A grain of salt is 0.065 grams, while a pinch of salt is 0.36 grams. So yes, a pinch is greater than a grain.

the mute switch can get inadvertently pushed all the time
Android world is living in the future...while some of us still living in the past...lets bring all the buttons back from the Nokia glorious days
Never ever since iPhone 4 I experienced the Mute Switch to inadvertently switch itself.

I admit the reason for that might be that I've been using phone cases with edges that raise above these buttons.

I'll give Apple a chance to prove this is a good decision.

I just wonder how it's going to be implemented software wise. One push = Mute & 1x vibration. Another push = Unmute & 2x vibration? If this happens inadvertently in my pocket, will I remember how many vibrations means the particular state of this button? How do I know it's the Mute switch and not the iMessage notification? Will I then have to take the phone out and tap on the home screen to see if Mute is on or off?

We'll see...

Whew, I had so much anxiety over the weekend because I couldn't get my daily "what will happen with the iPhone 15's side buttons" article, so I'm really overjoyed that MacRumors came through for me and filled the volume button-shaped hole in my heart with this article. 😩

The world can be so harsh and the future so uncertain, but getting these articles at least once a day about what Apple may or may not do with the mute button and the volume buttons has really become my emotional anchor in life. 🤡

It used to. Back when iPhones had home buttons. With the introduction of Face ID, Apple implemented the double tap of the lock button via an iOS update.

Hold a phone up to a payment terminal now and nothing happens. It only behaves like that when using express pay via public transit now.
ummm my phone when held up against a terminal opens the Apple Pay wallet screen …

Just so I understand, the rumor here, is that the iPhone 15 will continue to support the ability to be turned on and off? I can’t wait to get to the water cooler…

Agreed and this is what I was hoping to see. Move Siri out of the power button and into the action button and restore the purpose of the power button. If placement of the action button is the issue, well, then move it Apple!

Too bad the anti-bezel movement will prevent allowing a button right out front, which would be nice and convenient!!!

The Action Button should also help with turning iPhone into a Landscape Mode.

I still feel they will have solid state technology in the iPhone 15 pro line. It’s hard to change the design this late without delays. Plus Apple makes their designs months if not years ahead. Only time will tell and we will find out sooner or later.

"The volume up and power button will no longer be used to power off the device, or 'force-restart' it," claimed the leaker in a tweet. "The sequence remains, but the combination will be changed to action and power button."

In a follow-up tweet, the leaker also claimed that the "Action" button will replace the volume up button for taking photos in the Camera app, with force-sensitivity enabling a light press to auto-focus the camera, a hard press to take a picture, and a hard/long press to record video.
Great, now you'll get the shutdown screen when "holding it wrong" while trying to auto-focus or record a video.

Unless you can pinch an individual grain of salt, a pinch is more than a grain.

Which does mean we should have less faith.

Kind of how sub-par means bad, when it actually should mean good.

How about just making the right side button power down, force restart the phone? One long press to bring up the power down slider. One really long press to force restart the phone. Simple, one button, works across all currently being sold versions of the phone. I don't need some wonky contortionist multiple handed approach to restart my phone.

Finally a use for the "mute switch".

The Action Button should also help with turning iPhone into a Landscape Mode.

the action button is replacing the mute switch. that image is a load of rubbish.

the button layout will be the same as it is today except the mute switch will be a button like the power button.

Ughh I need a MUTE switch not some button that gets inadvertently pushed all the time. I already have enough screenshots I don’t want.
the mute switch is pointless. all they need to do is add a mute option in control centre or (crazy idea) long press the volume down button.

i'd get ride of the mute switch completely but i don't mind it being turned into an "action" button that does something useful.

Absolutely no one wants this change. There is a long list of things people actually want. Focus there.

I want it.
It makes no sense to put something that should be a dynamic software function behind a static on/off switch.
You can not make an automation to automatically turn the switch to "mute" while at work, for example.

And many people have their phone always muted, making this switch useless for them. Seems better to have a configurable button for this.
Then you can have different functions for button press, long-press and double-press.

Honestly Mute/unmute would be a better fit for the control center.

So is it an actual button? MR keeps calling it a button but I can’t be too sure…

That being said, I could get behind this. Holding the action button and the side button would be so easy! No more of this volume up, volume down, hold side Nintendo cheat code combo
