Apple actually has a good website that lists carriers that provide eSIM:It used to be so easy when traveling to developing countries. Sometimes there would be a vendor selling a SIM card at the airport for $10. Sometimes go to a convenience store, but within 30 minutes had a working phone with unlimited data for a month or longer. Apple forcing people to use eSIM in USA with only an eSIM and no SIM card tray means that people from the USA miss out or have to pay way more money for what used to cost $10. I will buy the next iPhone in Singapore or wherever I need to so I can have the SIM card. Call me stupid or say that you want to pay international roaming fees. But I don’t want to. To save $0.50 maximum, Apple ensures that Americans get screwed paying the maximum and this was definitely the scheme to begin with by US-based carriers actually wanting Apple to do this. Fact.

I spent last winter in Indonesia and Thailand. In Indonesia I used an eSIM from Smartfren, and in Thailand one from DTAC.
The Smartfren one was free, and 84gb/month was only 7USD.
The DTAC one cost 5USD and flatrate 8mbit was 10USD/month.
I love not having to bother with physical SIM cards, it's a hassle and they always get lost. Not so with eSIM.
