It used to be so easy when traveling to developing countries. Sometimes there would be a vendor selling a SIM card at the airport for $10. Sometimes go to a convenience store, but within 30 minutes had a working phone with unlimited data for a month or longer. Apple forcing people to use eSIM in USA with only an eSIM and no SIM card tray means that people from the USA miss out or have to pay way more money for what used to cost $10. I will buy the next iPhone in Singapore or wherever I need to so I can have the SIM card. Call me stupid or say that you want to pay international roaming fees. But I don’t want to. To save $0.50 maximum, Apple ensures that Americans get screwed paying the maximum and this was definitely the scheme to begin with by US-based carriers actually wanting Apple to do this. Fact.
Apple actually has a good website that lists carriers that provide eSIM:

I spent last winter in Indonesia and Thailand. In Indonesia I used an eSIM from Smartfren, and in Thailand one from DTAC.
The Smartfren one was free, and 84gb/month was only 7USD.
The DTAC one cost 5USD and flatrate 8mbit was 10USD/month.

I love not having to bother with physical SIM cards, it's a hassle and they always get lost. Not so with eSIM.

Meh, I’ll stick with silver. I love blue, but sick of the ones for iPhone. Plus I love a case on my, so doesn’t matter.

Airalo and Ubigi are just 2 of countless other options, mostly for travellers. Even major providers like MTN and Vodacom in South Africa and Vodafone Spain are at the party already. My pre-paid provider in Belgium also offers eSIM, in 5 mins flat. Can then replace at will, also in 5 mins. That list is growing, by the day. eSIM is here!

The latest study from Technology Research Analysts Survey Holdings found that

“Blue-colored iPhones and iPads run 12.6% cooler, have 3.67% longer battery life, and perform 7.39% faster than the space grey models.”
That’s been my experience, too.

Yes, and your life is apparently shortened by 1,35% every time you smoke 2,48% of a cigarette. My question is, how do they know that?

I’ve been having all the blue colors and dark colors for the last few years. I’m thinking I’m going gold this year.
I got the 14 Pro Max in purple and I really love this color. Due to developing severe headaches from the PWM frequency of the display or some other factor, I had to get a refurbished 12 Pro Max. I chose silver and paired it with a semi clear flowered case and I’m thrilled. My original 12 Pro Max was gold. I think silver, gold, and black do pair the best with cases and accessories compared to special colors.

I’m happy for the people who like blue, but some members of my family will be disappointed if a red/burgundy 15 Pro fails to materialize.

I would have preferred to hold onto my purple 14 Pro Max for another year. I don’t know if I’ll be able to move on to the 15 Pro with my migraine condition. If not, I’m happy to continue using my silver and white 12 Pro Max.

Sounds like this is going to be a fingerprint magnet like the MacBook Airs which also come in this color.

Take my money on an iPhone 15 Pro Max Crimson Red if one is made, BUT only if it's not affiliated with Project Red. Would love to see a crimson color in the Fall.

99.995% of the people here complaining about the color, have their phones inside a case and never see the color anyway.

I used a very scientific method to come up with that percentage. don't @ me 😛🤣🤣🤣

The truth is, it’s way easier to buy a physical sim at the airport. At least that’s been my experience for many years.

Don’t want to be a contrarian just for the sake of it, but it's not easier. It's actually a lot easier adding an esim by scanning a qr code, and NOT having to take out my native sim and having to store it safely. Bonus is that I can then have my native line on, and receive OTPs and the usual anti-fraud checks that my bank bombards me with when traveling.

While the process for managing regular sims is fairly similar, the way eSIM is being managed across providers varies wildly. My first eSIM was with Orange Belgium. What a mission. I first had to order a physical online, then wait several days to have it mailed to me. I then had to put it (the physical) in my phone to activate it. Then, I had to physically go to the local Orange shop to request an eSIM which had to be installed for me. This first required me to log into the store's wifi. Don't ask how I would replace it (the eSIM), I still have no idea. The whole process took 4 days, I kid you not. And this is Orange, a major service provider.

I then found a small MVNO called Mobile Vikings. Signed up for their eSIM in 5 mins flat, and when I had to replace my phone I simply logged in with my laptop, requested a new eSIM and had it installed within minutes. Done and done, from the comfort of my own couch.

Point is, if/when you are considering eSIM, it might be a good idea to first familiarise yourself with the processes of your preferred provider.

My other point? I couldn't care less about the colour of my phone, I care about things like eSIM support and other useful features. I only got the white 12 mini because it was the cheapest, but it comes with 11 eSIM slots.

Here’s the thing. You can have a SIM card iPhone with one lousy SIM slot or get it in Hong Kong and it has two SIM slots. And, they come with eSIM in addition. So, whatever way works best is available. Can install up to 10 eSIMs although can only use two at one time.

You do you. If you are a world traveler and hit 90 countries and you’re always on the road, you’re going to regret that eSIM only iPhone. Just like I have. Major disappointment.

I carry a Nothing Phone which actually feels better than my iPhone and has two SIM slots so I have it all covered with two phones. But one thing Apple has is the ecosystem. But the costs of upwards of $20 daily to be on Verizon internationally versus buying a SIM for $10 that has unlimited data and calling for a month or two has never steered me wrong.

You do you. I will keep my preferences. I agree eSIM could be easier but in reality it’s not! That’s just a fact. If you travel to the same three or four countries, sure you can probably make it work with eSIM but even in Thailand I have to go into the damned phone carrier to install an eSIM at True. They’re just not all ready for eSIM. In China, China Mobile doesn’t even have it available for me as a foreigner. The list goes on and on. New country, SIM card at the airport dirt cheap and great service for approximately $10 each time. If traveling developing countries, your iPhone without a physical SIM will fail you eventually even if you think you got it.

Not wasted; older iPhones were not as durable as the recent ones are. Today cases are indeed a waste.
Not really, because they wrap around the case and protect the screen from contact with surfaces. After a single scratch in 18 months on my iPhone 13 Pro Max's screen, I removed the case and got two more by the end of the weekend.

Are people sticking with what they had size wise? Pro vs max?
I have a 13 pro now and going to the 15 pro max size. I had the 11 pro max size and decided to downsize to the 13 pro but regretted it as I missed the big screen and battery life of the pro max size.
