You know why iFixit does not want part pairing? So they can sell you counterfeit parts. Apple store repair cost are not crazy high. Labor cost is similar in the same country. The difference is that someone want to sell you none OEM parts. And also pickpocket you and sell it for parts.

Buyer of parts and services wouldn't go to 3rd parties unless they do not care about authenticity.

if you follow iFixit link and scroll to the botton of the page, you'll find the interior wallpapers for the 15 line.

I didn't say it was "good", "well produced", or even what I'd do, but the fact remains, if you're expecting something for free (which a tear down video like this is) and are upset that it's pushing the company line, yeah, that's entitlement.

Basically, their YT channel is advertising. It's an "infomercial". And people are whining about its slanted rhetoric? Yeah, that's entitlement (or just outright naiveté: you're watching a commercial, not a documentary produced to inform you, it's a means to a business end). If you want "just the tech facts" save the slant (as the original commenter said), feel free to buy an iPhone 15 Pro Max and hire an specialist to tear it down and give you the BoM.

Of course they aren't required to make such a video or write the script as they have, there are many different approaches, and you have a one that's different from them (as would I, I don't think taking the tone they have is particularly useful), but that's not the point, the point is that they're not trying to push an ideology as people have suggested, they're looking out for their bottom line and motivated by their economic interests as any for-profit would be.

Now, argue all you want that they may not be doing the best job at that goal with the way they went about it, sure, but the *effectiveness* besides the point, because the *motive* is the same.

It's speculation *at best* on your part what Apple would do. Just b/c Macs moved to USB-C means nothing, and yes, clearly they were ready with the hardware, but who is to say that they wouldn't have created a crippled USB-C connector that still let them control the connector if the EU hadn't intervened. And, again, this isn't political as much as you are trying to make it such. Just b/c the EU is a "political" entity does not make this political: again, that comment they made is *economics*: they are taking pop shots at Apple because they think doing so aligns with their bottom line objectives. They couldn't care less about the politics is my take here.

There are plenty of Apple consumers who don't really like Apple's methods or smug, self-indulgent manner. I think you are giving yourself too much credit and not giving them enough: they know that they will be alienating Apple fan bois, but then again, they likely also know that those are not their core demographic. Their core demographic is repair shops, indies, and those that use Apple products who want more control over the hardware they buy who likely feel the same.

I think they're realistic and not trying to capture the whole AAPL ecosystem but drive more incremental sales and mindshare within their segment, and I think while it didn't resonate with you, it did resonate with a lot of that market.

Hell, it got a lot of views, so they're doing SOMETHING right in that regard, and how many consumers remember that bad taste in their mouth when that part shows up they need on a cookie-served ad from this video they viewed three months ago and are now Googling "broken key on mac replacement" and the ad was served b/c you viewed it and the price is right? Not many will remember let alone stick to their ideological guns that they didn't like the mockery when the time comes to check out, esp if the price is right. This is SEO/on line ad work resulting in actual conversion done right, actually, I'd say.

Have you actually watched the video? I hadn't, till I read your comments.

This video was terrible, and as a communications consultant at a fairly high level, I think from a business standpoint, they took a terrible approach in this video. They are a tech fixit company. And their preachiness and political positions make me LESS likely to use them. I just found it very off putting.

For example, deriding Apple for switching to USB C only because they were "forced" to do so. Contrary to EU opinion, Apple has been in the process of switching to USB C for awhile now, as evidence in my USB C laptop from 2020. And to pretend that there weren't legitimate reasons to stick with lightning, even from a consumer-friendly standpoint, is ignorant. Political.

I Fixit isn't required by "business" to make the video in the way they did it. There are many different approaches one can take. But openly mocking Apple to potential Apple consumers is a terrible BUSINESS decision.

Or am I just "entitled?"

You have no idea what their business is yet you're making commentary about it? You are dead wrong on what their business is to begin with: iFixIt is not a repair shop. Where you are 100% right is that, yes, Apple repairs WAY more than iFixIt b/c iFixIt repairs ZERO devices. That's not their business. They sell parts to end consumers and indie repair shops as well as DIY tools designed for Apple device repair outside the "official" channels. So, yes, the other place you are 100% right, there is "no way would [you] use iFixIt". Because they don't offer repair services. Yes, you will have to take your device to Apple. iFixIt lost $0 of revenue they could capture from you because they don't do business in the segment in which you are talking about your consumer preference/spend.

And, therein, you proved my previous point even more: I think they know quite well that you're not their target demographic and they're not going after you (you don't even know what their business is, yet, here you are saying you'd never patronize them, hahahaha, ok, whatever, man!).

They know where their bread is buttered: indie repair shops who buy from them in volume, and, believe it or not, you're not representative of them. In fact, most of them are just as pissed and hateful of AAPL policy/market strategy in repairability, pairing, and messaging on the topic. That's just a fact of that market.

Suggesting or defending that any consumer is entitled to content without slant from the person publishing the content for free is precisely entitlement.

Not true at all. I'd have much more respect for iFixit and be much more likely to take my device to them if they were just providing information in this instance. That has nothing at all to do with "entitlement" and I'm not even sure you know what the term means.

But iFixit is openly mocking Apple to me, and Apple consumer. iFixit is publicly stating how hard it is for them to fix my device.

Apple undoubtedly repairs, on an order of magnitudes, many more Apple devices than does iFixit. They aren't complaining or telling me it's hard for them to do. They just do it.

So when it comes time for me to repair my device, which company am I going to trust? The one who thinks I was stupid to buy the device, who says they struggle to repair it?

No. No way would I use iFixit. I'll just take my device to Apple.

Taken from the iFixit website. I guess I now understand their approach in the video better.
Exactly, like I said: it's economics. Follow. The. Money.

They sell tools and parts for end user and indie shop repair. They make money when they sell more. They actually make more money when the OEM repair price is high and repairability is high. They make less when the OEM price is competitive to DIY/indie and repairability is low. They fail to exist when parts are serialized and rejected by software unless replaced by a "blessed" method/outlet that is not the OEM or is closed to them.

This is quite simple and this isn't religion for them, it's $$$.

No worries, man! Really appreciate and respect your note and the character/confidence that takes to do the research and see the error, if I had a nickel for every mistake I made...man...

You're right. I was confused. I always thought iFixit also had retail repair shops. I now see I was wrong about that. I could have sworn that there used to be a shop in Seattle for iFixit. Mea Culpa and you got me there.

That said, I still don't think the video serves them well. But you're right, I was mistaken.

Yup, Google offers official parts through the channel and doesn't mandate who installs them or require some walled garden-esque pairing process for "parts security".

*I own mostly all AAPL stuff, not anti-Apple, just not a fan of paying for hardware that is sold to me but treated as if I am somehow licensing/leasing it under the guise of "it's for my own good/security". Just be honest and call it a fee, let me pay the fee to access my own stuff. Same as carrier locking, I'll pony up for an unlocked device, and I'll pony up to have access to my own hardware, that's not my problem, my issue is being told that somehow I can't access my own hardware or repair my own hardware I actually own because of "security" of anything other than a revenue stream

In fact, look at the difference in tone for the last Google Pixel phone that iFixit did a teardown on, in 2019.

anyone notice a difference with the X70? ill be getting a 15 soon but I have a 13 pro max now and am just hoping for better cellular connection. reception in my town sucks but I see some other android people getting better signal than i

X70 in the iPhone 15 Pro is in the neighborhood of 20% faster than iPhone 14 Pro.

As someone who upgrades fairly often (every other generation) this year I get to have : Always-On, Dynamic Island, 48MP, Satellite thing, Action Button, USB-C, and this Natural Titanium look that I personally find gorgeous. Not too bad for "incremental changes" ;-)
Going from 13 to 15 not as “incremental” as going from 14 to 15, I would agree. I have the impression that most of the incremental criticism applied to the latter scenario 😊

Yep 👍 Coming from an iPhone 13 Pro, this 15 Pro Max was a great upgrade. I never realized how nice it would be to have USB-C alone. Charge my iPad, charge my MacBook, charge JBL, charge my Apple TV remote. One port to rule them all. 👑

I now think this video from iFixit IS political; they're pushing Google's agenda, and they're pushing for legislation to force "right to repair." Thanks for sending me down this rabbit hole of research today. :)
Google’s one of their partners, so it probably comes with the territory. I’d imagine in some future teardown they’ll be enlightening us on the glories of RCS. :)

Faster 5G? This was 5G NSA a few weeks ago and via MVNO MINT Mobile.

Go outside. Leave your phone in your house or in a bag. Live life. These devices seem to be ruling too many of you still. Excitement should have evaporated by now. You don't need to buy the newest device anymore. One day you'll look back and you won't even remember what number iPhone you had when you missed out on something great.
Go outside, don’t waste your time on macrumors. One day you will look back and won’t remember any comment here.

In my experience each new iPhone is a bit better cellular connection than previous. Sometimes moreso than others.

When, in six months, we get the same issues plaguing other USB-C devices from subpar cables and connectors, there will be silence from those cheering for the EU strong arm politics now.
Personally I hate the idea of any government specifying tech details like USB-C because it disables tech innovation. Even if you like USB-C you should still hate the idea of the EU mandating it.

Don't know about other countries but from where I am, I am happy iphone hardwares are unswapable because **** those thieves and snatches

No, it's just not an issue. It's a block of metal and glass. That previous versions of the iPhone didn't break when enormous and unusual force was applied to them means they were extraordinary, not that the current version is defective in some way.
I never said defective. This is like the issue the iPhone 6 Plus had when people put it in their back pocket. It wasn't something they had tested for, and they'll iterate and make the design better...that's it. I'm not sure why you are so adamant something that Apple can easily fix shouldn't be fixed ever.
