I didn't say it was "good", "well produced", or even what I'd do, but the fact remains, if you're expecting something for free (which a tear down video like this is) and are upset that it's pushing the company line, yeah, that's entitlement.
Basically, their YT channel is advertising. It's an "infomercial". And people are whining about its slanted rhetoric? Yeah, that's entitlement (or just outright naiveté: you're watching a commercial, not a documentary produced to inform you, it's a means to a business end). If you want "just the tech facts" save the slant (as the original commenter said), feel free to buy an iPhone 15 Pro Max and hire an specialist to tear it down and give you the BoM.
Of course they aren't required to make such a video or write the script as they have, there are many different approaches, and you have a one that's different from them (as would I, I don't think taking the tone they have is particularly useful), but that's not the point, the point is that they're not trying to push an ideology as people have suggested, they're looking out for their bottom line and motivated by their economic interests as any for-profit would be.
Now, argue all you want that they may not be doing the best job at that goal with the way they went about it, sure, but the *effectiveness* besides the point, because the *motive* is the same.
It's speculation *at best* on your part what Apple would do. Just b/c Macs moved to USB-C means nothing, and yes, clearly they were ready with the hardware, but who is to say that they wouldn't have created a crippled USB-C connector that still let them control the connector if the EU hadn't intervened. And, again, this isn't political as much as you are trying to make it such. Just b/c the EU is a "political" entity does not make this political: again, that comment they made is *economics*: they are taking pop shots at Apple because they think doing so aligns with their bottom line objectives. They couldn't care less about the politics is my take here.
There are plenty of Apple consumers who don't really like Apple's methods or smug, self-indulgent manner. I think you are giving yourself too much credit and not giving them enough: they know that they will be alienating Apple fan bois, but then again, they likely also know that those are not their core demographic. Their core demographic is repair shops, indies, and those that use Apple products who want more control over the hardware they buy who likely feel the same.
I think they're realistic and not trying to capture the whole AAPL ecosystem but drive more incremental sales and mindshare within their segment, and I think while it didn't resonate with you, it did resonate with a lot of that market.
Hell, it got a lot of views, so they're doing SOMETHING right in that regard, and how many consumers remember that bad taste in their mouth when that part shows up they need on a cookie-served ad from this video they viewed three months ago and are now Googling "broken key on mac replacement" and the ad was served b/c you viewed it and the price is right? Not many will remember let alone stick to their ideological guns that they didn't like the mockery when the time comes to check out, esp if the price is right. This is SEO/on line ad work resulting in actual conversion done right, actually, I'd say.
Have you actually watched the video? I hadn't, till I read your comments.
This video was terrible, and as a communications consultant at a fairly high level, I think from a business standpoint, they took a terrible approach in this video. They are a tech fixit company. And their preachiness and political positions make me LESS likely to use them. I just found it very off putting.
For example, deriding Apple for switching to USB C only because they were "forced" to do so. Contrary to EU opinion, Apple has been in the process of switching to USB C for awhile now, as evidence in my USB C laptop from 2020. And to pretend that there weren't legitimate reasons to stick with lightning, even from a consumer-friendly standpoint, is ignorant. Political.
I Fixit isn't required by "business" to make the video in the way they did it. There are many different approaches one can take. But openly mocking Apple to potential Apple consumers is a terrible BUSINESS decision.
Or am I just "entitled?"
