There's enough of a market for it (especially if they're killing the iPhone SE) where Apple will make a nice profit on it. But the bean counters at Apple won't justify it if the product isn't a grand slam home run. Hitting a double is still good.
Apple’s “doubles” are bigger business than entire top tier brands. People seem to forget the scale of things when discussing “flops” from Apple.

I bet Google would dream of moving as many Pixel units as the “failure” iPhone mini sold.

Seems like an early start for me. Last year iPhone 14 NPI production started on February 21, 2022.

Lol, if you think NPI starts 7 months before product launch, you really have no idea how products (not just Apple) are developed do you?

Let me guess, most people here have never launched consumer electronics hardware? Much less any hardware?

So many people here that have no idea how business works. So many people actually think this is something new. Wow.

Not surprising at all considering this was made an actual news article.

Bingo bango! Apple has locked-in the iPhone 15. This is likely a trial-run of the mass production process.

Omg not another year with no innovation did Tim sack all the designers with any imagination seems like the only thing going with iPhone now days is software upgrades that only take 6 months to work on then 6 months in beta to end up full of bugs then spend a year trying to fix it. But remember Apple is revolutionary and the innovators in the industry. I got an idea let’s add usbc and tell every one it’s the fastest usbc on the market we will sell millions. Give us a break Apple wake up you’re lagging behind.
Seems old Timmy’s out of ideas milking this product line for all its worth. At the current exorbitant prices, Apple again about to get hammered by analysts and media for lack of innovation.

So the main differences are a titanium edge, and USB-C?
How on earth would this warranty any kind of upgrade from the iPhone 14, or even the 13 for that matter.
Titanium over stainless steel to me implies weight reduction, which would be appreciated. I think the current Pros are a bit heavy and a lighter phone would be more comfortable to handle.

But yeah, this isn't exactly innovation. It's another iterative upgrade and upgrading yearly is becoming less and less appealing.

It isn't too surprising if you think about it, the smartphone is matured technology now. How often do you upgrade your laptop? 3/4 years? Maybe that's a more realistic cadence for a phone as well.

When the biggest change you can make is the usbc port, you are no longer an innovator. Are you?.
How about ay LEAST moving to the top of the display the island?, is very intrusive as it is, worse than the notch.
What ab advanced phone it will be… same camera just minor tweaks by software and usbc…. Great job, Tim. Nice. A
Selling the same device as new sfor 3 or 3 years…

We may be seeing Apple starting to move beyond the iPhone. It’s still this pocket computer that does everything, but it will also increasingly serve as the brains for your Apple Watch and your Apple glasses and that’s likely where we will see more innovation for the next couple of years.

It doesn’t mean that Apple is no longer innovating, just that they are choosing to channel their resources and energies elsewhere.

I will also argue that Apple sells an ecosystem, not just a phone. In this context, innovation can occur in any of their product lineup and still have an impact on how people interact with their phones.

For example, an AirTag gives me an additional reason to own an iPhone over android handset. It’s a benefit also not limited to just the latest iPhone model.

I think to look beyond any one product before declaring that Apple is no longer innovating.

the word innovation is a word used far too much with too much meaning. Apple are so popular and a big reason is how as you said everything works together. I have a bunch of airtags and depend alot on the apple watch ultra. apple are very much about services and it seems AR/VR is their main focus heading into the future. Until we see how this will work with current devices people can't really say they aren't trying or innovation is struggling as this could be a massive part of the future plans.

What about a periscope camera/better zoom? I wonder if that's been shelved. The only thing that I don't appreciate about my 14 Pro Max is the paltry 3x zoom. It's the only thing that makes me miss my old Note 20 Ultra.

Titanium frame would be nice, too. Less heavy is good.
only the ULTRA model will have periscope lens (X10)

9 months away, also gonna be a minor update don’t care about usb c as I use magsafe and nothing major coming
Nothing Major??? Are you having buyers remorse right now? Titanium, USB-C, Taptic buttons, better battery, better lens..yeh, nothing major just lighter, quicker charge, better battery times, connection standard change...and only 8 months away..Lol

Are you over-positioned in Apple stock? Might want to take that emotion down a notch.

USB-C is not major when it should have been implemented a long time ago. Lightning was another way for Apple to force customers into purchasing proprietary cables.

Taptic buttons? Who uses buttons anymore? Not major

Better battery? When they're improving battery life year over year, that's not major

Better lens? Sorry, but slapping on a better lens on a camera that already takes great pictures isn't a major accomplishment.

I stand by my original statement. There's nothing innovative coming on the iPhone 15.

Folks, repeat after me: "This is the most advanced iPhone Apple has ever released. We are taking iPhone to the next level, with an all-new CPU and GPU, that represent the most powerful iPhone processors we've ever put into an iPhone. And we're not stopping there. Apple revolutionized the camera system in mobile phones, and we're excited to announce we've made a break-through advancement with an all-new periscope lens system. This new, best-in-class, pro-level feature will allow customers to take even more incredible photos, like they never have before. And with iOS 17, the most advanced mobile OS, customers can get even more out their iPhone."

Currently have the 14 Pro, while it’s great I miss my 13 mini as I passed it down to my daughter. Picking up a brand new 13 mini in a few days since it seems apple won’t be brining back that firm factor for a while if ever.
