Yep and I thought the 12 Pro Max was already bad focusing up close. The other day I had to verify my ID with one of those verification apps and I could not do it with it because the camera simply could not focus on the text of my ID. I had to pull out my old 7 Plus to get it verified
I thought my 14maxpro camera was so bad I asked for it to be replaced.
2 months later - I thought my 14maxpro camera was so bad I started using my wife's 13 pro to take pictures on vacations and at events
6 months later - doesn't sound like the camera on the 15pro will be any better

The post processing is being nerfed on iOS 17 I guarantee you that, either way I do recommend you use ProRaw so it allow post processing and 48mp photos together

plausible

I am using a 14 Pro Max, what is macro?
Check out the guide posted by MacRumors and 9to5mac. It should work with iPhone 14 Pro Max too.

I haven’t seen any evidence of this, I keep hearing this claim but the pics on my phone are just as bad as iOS 16. Where’s the side by side review that actually shows a difference because I don’t notice anything.

My IPhone renewal cycle (every other year) looks forward buying the 15Pro (maybe max?!), but all these rumors make me feel like I should better wait for the iPhone 16… 🙄

To be fair it quickly becomes a slippery slope, as you could wait for eternity, as the next model will probably be better than the previous one.

I think the only way this line of thought has sense is on redesign years, which happen every 3 years, If I'm not mistaken.

Sales are slumping and there needs to more revenue coming from services. So this seems to a plausible strategy.
Possibility: Plastic lens mean lower mass means faster to move when focusing. And optical plastic is very good now.

So the takeaway is it won't be significantly different from prior iphone besides the increase in price. You need to buy this. There's people to impress.
I imagine that it is a big upgrade from my 12 and my spouse’s XR. If you have a 14 you are not looking for an upgrade.

And yet the camera in my 14 Pro Max is superb.

iOS 17 certainly isn’t over processing like iOS 16 did. Largely what you see in view finder is what you get now

I read up and found this. It's old but prolly still relevant.

In any case it's generally hard enough for most users. People who are that hard on their stuff are going to break something at some point.
I saw that good article. There are loads of reports on the web saying its not true sapphire, and believe me if it was it would cost a lot more, my Tag is 23 years old without a scratch or needing a firmware update, but Apple love to distort the truth and that erks me a bit, yes I agree its hard enough for most people, but I have seen a few with scratches where the lens protrude so far out now they seem more prone to getting scratched by detritus on tables etc, let alone down the beach where sand can enter pockets and almost everywhere.

What does worry me is internal plastic lens which will never be as good as glass ones if they were they would be used in high end gear surely? This sounds like Apple reducing cost but saying to us its all okay sleep soundly little consumers, we just saved millions with cheap lenses but you wont really know as this is not a professional camera like we pretend it to be. which I don't think pro camera gear ever use 'hybrid lens' but I could be wrong. I guess I'm cynical but my trust in Apple has gone down hill in the last few years, each iPhone looks great on the outside as they cut production costs on the inside, and probably to our detriment.

not sure why you can’t see a difference, the image isn’t being overprocessed like before. What’s in the view finder is pretty much what the image produces. Zollotech showed some examples side by side and the improvements. The terrible oversharpening has gone from my testing. Granted it’s not perfect in all areas but photos are now good enough.

my 14 pro max came last in my blind camera comparisons on twitter but so far in iOS 17 beta it’s beating my pixel which it wouldn’t have done before.

Except the lens cover isn't real real Saphire as on my Tag Heur, its actually a sapphire composite material, which is not as hard as pure sapphire. Plastic sounds cheap and not that great for some reason. the 16 seems to be the phone to get, I'm happy with my 14 Pro. I'm in no hurry to spend money on iPhones for the sake of spending money on iPhones for very minor updates, just my take.
I always thought it a pity they used the more scratch-able composite sapphire. Especially when I was living next to the beach...

Lots of of claims still waiting for an example, I don’t have another 14 pro to test this out, you’d think by now someone would have done so and shown us all some pixel peeped images. I saw the images in z’s video and you couldn’t see a thing, the pics were all different and little YouTube thumbnails.

We need one of the photography channels to do a proper review. I took some shots today and they looked terribly over sharpened still and hdr on blast. The only time I felt any improvement was a night shot I snapped real quick a few days ago, but it was just one shot so not sure.

I don’t have a spare 14 pro but I can clearly see the differences from past photos I’ve took in iOS 16. Photos of my cats aren’t over sharpened and aren’t over processed like before. Exposure does increase which isn’t a good thing and is the only differences in post processing.

If you can’t see a difference then fair enough not been my experience. Is it completely fixed and perfect? No but it’s least more usable than before and for me beats my pixel now in many situations when it didn’t before
