That always seems to be the million-dollar question when a new iPhone is released. It really comes down to which data plan you currently have. If you're on an unlimited plan, then I'd stick with 16 and stream all the music/movies/podcasts your heart desires. If you're on one of these ridiculous tiered options, you'll want to cache your music library (i.e. Spotify offline listening) and anything else that is downloadable via WiFi. In that case, I'd go with 32 or 64 and roll back your calendar to 2007/2008.

Owners that casually state they have 32gb/64gb , are you buying the phones outright or on contract? I think on contract! A couple of $100 here and there isn't going to hurt the pocket as much as paying $800-900! And even more in the UK where I come from! BIG difference in price!

I was planning to buy outright but struggled to get the silver 32GB in London stores so I ended up getting it on contract. I don't particularly like contracts as often they are not as cost effective as buying outright and getting a sim only deal. However, the deal I went for gave the 64GB at the same contract price as the 32GB and when you deduct the cost of the phone, the tariff part came to around £21 a month for unlimited calls and text, along with 10GB 4G data.

The cheapest option for me would have been to buy the phone outright and pay £15/£18 for the Three 'One Plan' but I wasn't sold on the Three service in London buildings.

I have a 64gb because a 32gb wasn't available the day after launch when I walked up to a short line outside my local Apple store. After 3+years on an iPhone 4 I was READY for an upgrade, and for $100 more than a 32gb I was able to walk out with a new phone in less than 30 minutes. No whining and agonizing over availability or long processing, shipping, and delivery dates.

While I may never need more than 32gb, I have no regrets about grabbing the first 64gb I stumbled upon! :D

This is the result of creating such high demand. I did the same as you. Walked in wanting a 16 only had 32 so I bought the 32. Apple got me again!

16 is fine for me. It's just a matter of good house keeping. I can put a few movies on here and a ton of music. If I want more I will use iTunes Match. And Dropbox.

I have a 32GB - Simply because Its the first one I was able to get my hands on.

Would have quite happily had a 16GB device like the other half but just wanted the first one I could get - regardless of size.

I keep lots of photos, podcasts, and music on my device so 32GB for me. I think it's the sweet spot and frankly should be the minimum standard by now.

Can anyone confirm if the files are larger on the 5s compared to 4s? Yes the camera is improved but does it use more space? This would be helpful..thanks

Files sizes are about the same on average. Take the Megapixels and divide by 2.5 to get an average file size. In this case, you're looking at about 3.2MB per file on average.

I buy the 16gb version. My iTunes library is over 14,500 tracks of music and I have no desire to include ALL that on one phone. So I made a Top 500 Smart Playlist and sync that to my device. There is no real reason to include 14,500 tracks of music on your phone to begin with.

16 if you're keeping it for a year or 2 or 3. buy 32/64 if you intend on keeping it forever. i bought myself an iPod nano to keep all my music. it works better for me.

64GB and that's too small. Music library on iTunes is around 200GB.

Do you really listen to 200GB worth of music? I'm pretty sure you don't listen to every single song you have. Do you share your iTunes library w/other family members?

That's what I do with my 16GB. I use Spotify for my offline music and don't use the my regular iTunes music for my phone. Frees up so much space.

I went for 32. My old 16 was nearly full but in need of a clear out anyway, so it should be plenty for me. Used to use a 32GB iPod and had over 10GB free on it. Definitely testing out how much the camera uses though, and loading up all the videos I want on it to confirm that I don't need the 64 before my return period is up.
