How many people here use their phones without a cover? I would love to use it without it, but I don't think my iPhone would survive.
Phones are too slippery to use naked. I always get the slimmest case I can for the grip and scratch protection. Apple should offer a phone body wrap service

For me main advantage that it's NOT an Android.

Personally always using one of UAG 'panzer tank' cases. Never had a single scratch (including of concrete).

I love Ceramic Shield on my iPhone 12. It’s one of the main reasons I upgraded from my iPhone X. Drop protection is very important to me

Every single one of my iPhones in the last 15 years has got scratched at some point. I wish they'd shield for that.

I dropped my Mini on concrete several times and not much happened. Maybe I was lucky or maybe it was the reduced weight. I don't know. Still, wouldn't it be nice to have standardized crash tests with public results for the phones we're interested in?

all advertisements have comments off
I assure you that's a recent change because I have been leaving critical comments for a while now. My guess is that they got tired of being called out publicly so they duplicated their handling of poor reviews on their website by simply removing the ability to provide feedback. I remember the poor reviews people used to leave for Apple's price gouging for USB and Lightning cables. Amazing how this multi-trillion dollar company is so butt hurt over being called out for legitimate failures.

Still use a screen protector for goodness sake.

The Ceramic Shield is just added strength to the glass of the iPhone. 📱

I haven't had a screen protector on my iPhone for the last several iterations due to the highly scratch-resistant screens. I don't know what Apple is smoking, but my 16 Pro is the first one to be absolutely COVERED in deep scratches on the screen. Starting with the 13, it hasn't been a problem, but it started in the first week with my 16 Pro. This ad is BS and I hope they address this for the 17!

These ads are so deceptive and provide nothing but misinformation just like the Apple AI ads, which also didn't deliver. Apple has gone from a company of great ads and advancements to a company of small claims and missed deliverables. What a great company indeed. I wish Jobs were still alive and also that Cookie would get fired or retire. No one in my house wants to buy into the Apple buzz anymore. Even considering new android devices this summer as the 17pro is just a cheapened version of the 16 pro with aluminum and a bigger, uglier camera bump.
They are ads... if you want pure information, take the data sheet... everything else is just "(mis)information"...

Yet you accidentally drop the Apple TV remote on it once or twice and the iPhone screen looks like it’s gone through a war.

Does this mean that Apple guarantee if you drop your iPhone it won’t break?

Does the ad mention a guarantee? This is a genuine question, since I watched it with sound off, but I doubt it since you’re asking the question and that just doesn’t sound like something any manufacturer, except Motorola during their Shattershield days, would say.

Wow that’s a big claim.

Apple lawyer: “What claim? 🧐😏”

“Two times tougher” can mean stronger in some particular way that Corning and Apple can prove in testing, that might translate to improved drop protection but doesn’t guarantee a shatter-free drop experience.

It’s not even a reasonable expectation considering that glass tends to break when dropped.

I didn’t mean to single you out btw. Lots of the comments are making assumptions of ‘indestructible’ and ‘scratch resistance’ that aren’t even mentioned in any smartphone adds.

What we don’t know and is key is “2x tougher HOW?”

For example, (numbers are made up) if a Gorilla Glass screen is 3% drop resistant and an iPhone with this Ceramic Shield is 9% drop resistant then it could be considered “2x tougher” even though it’s still extremely likely to break.

Yah, that was pretty weak... let's drop it on shock-absorbing floor boards!

Apple's ad department has been weak for several years now.
Yea what’s going on. Apple used to be the best at this. Somewhere after the iPhone 12 things started to go down hill. The iPhone 13 Pro ads weren’t the worst they started the downside and tbh I don’t even remember the iPhone 16 pro ads or the 15 pro other than random titanium logo appearing. The last iPhone ad I remember was the 14 pro and I actually have something wrong with me where I enjoy watching tech conferences and the ads.

This past year, I dropped my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 from waist height onto a paved parking lot surface. The Fold series are the largest, heaviest smart phones out there, as far as I know. The fall produced no damage to the phone ... none at all.

I had a case on it, but nothing extravagant like an Otter Box or anything. The case had a slight indentation on the corner that hit first, but everything continued to work flawlessly, phone and case.

Apple has some serious catching up to do. They may have the fastest smart phone processors out there, but Apple, Samsung etc. are all so "stupid fast" now that I don't think it matters anymore.

Now for the record, while I might throw stones at iOS and iPhone, I love Macs ... absolutely adore them. They are still the best desktop/laptop machine money can buy, hands down.

I have no, zero, nada modern PCs in my house... I am 100% Mac. I do have some vintage PCs, topping out at Windows XP, but those are for my retro work, not daily use.

I still think they are walking a fine line. The advert clearly infers that if you drop the iPhone from waist height it won’t break or crack. I’m sure they’ve covered themselves in the fine print when you actually buy the phone but it still opens them up to claims of misleading advertising.
