Hey @Hooterville didn’t someone say they had the Ridge in black and green on order way back when we ordered ours. The orange wasn’t my jam so I exchanged for a black one… was hoping to see some real life pics of it but they never reported back.

Yea, Jblass421 purchased both colors and returned both. He posted some good pics of both back in this thread.

Found the pics back on page 356 of this thread.

Yea I reported back, a couple times as a matter of fact as @Sal09 asked about them as well. Not the best photo but here it is in black.

I don't understand what causing this, because its on top of case (where display is). I'm putting my phone with display down only to my pockets or sometimes on surfaces, but mainly on soft places like sofa or mouse pads. Never on hard sharp surface.
Otherwise, with display up I'm putting it almost everywhere and on bottom part of Arc, there is nothing - only few microscratches on bottom part, but nothing on the top part. No spots or smudges.

It seems to me that tungsten carbide is not that great, or Arc just kidding that they use it 😄

It is not tungsten carbide, but a Tungsten Titanium powder. The 2 metals are combined in a precise combination and with a sintering process fused in a mold coming out needing only final touch-up polishing to finish it. Its hardness depends on the 2 metals percentages. It can be anywhere from 30 to 70 HRc.
 
Here is the waterproof case I told you about. You can see my 16 Pro Max in an OtterBox Defender case inside it. I tested the ADVNTR and it fit just fine. The case has built-in floatation which also acts as an airbag cushion for the phone. It is good to five feet submerged for extended periods. The fact is floats make it a kayaker's dream.

Arc claims otherwise:

“Arc Pulse Titanium is forged from a single block of Aerospace Grade 5 Titanium, and coated with our Onyx Black Tungsten Carbide, a material typically used in the construction of armor-piercing tank rounds.”

Yes, but it seems that surface can be "polished" by cloth. So it not looks like tungsten carbide.
I realized that this spots come up after I run with my phone in pocket of running west for 3 hours one day nad 3 hours second day. There must be some friction that causes this.

Sweet thanks. I looked around and couldn’t find this.. guess I’m getting old also… lol but my black ridge came in the mail after I posted yesterday and I love the look of it in person with the black iPhone, only thing is it’s slippery and the back shows ALL the oils from your hands, even if there isn’t any… unfortunately will probably be sent back even though I love the look of it and it’s comfortable to hold because of the exact speaker cutout holes.

I stand corrected. I was looking at a review site and they said Tungsten Titanium, which is the name of the powder metal casting. Must have been a bad AI translation. From what I have read about Tungsten Titanium this would be superior to Titanium with the Tungsten coating, but more costly.

I had an engraving tool as a kid with a tungsten carbide tip. It would be hard for me to imagine something tough enough to make markings in metal would be so easily scratched.

I wonder if Arc bonds the tungsten carbide to the titanium but has some outer layer of paint/polymer that is meant to be polished but is perhaps less strong than the base metals? I certainly hope that's not the case though. Just speculating.

I was looking this up and I found out that Tungsten Carbide does not take on a patina, however, it is something alloyed with cobalt and this combination does, usually a bluish patina. There is a lot of discussion about this as related to men's rings. The Black is a layer of a flash-coated Titanium-zirconium alloy.

Usually when I see these posts from brands I have a good relationship with the marking people, I show them because I always say part of me recommending a product is ensuring that the customers are always taken care of. I tried to reach out to them and have gotten no reply. I didn't even write a review on Amazon until yesterday, giving them plenty of time to respond or do anything. I am still waiting on a reply for ME to pay THEM for my warranty claim on this - despite never even being able to use the item. By all means, please share it with them. I will give you all of my correspondence and the order information.

I think "Jessie" is the only person for their customer service. It is the only person I have gotten a reply from. But their process and communication have been horrendous compared to almost every company I have ever worked with. ESR has always been the best. Phone Rebel, with whom many have not had good comms, gets back within a day with action, not just feeling like I am getting a bot response. Having good customer service really is a huge difference in today's world. Responsiveness is the next thing any customer wants. FloLab has failed on all parts with me.
