More of standard yearly evolution than a revolution. Could be called 15S instead of 16. But still, since I’m coming from an XR, a baseline 16 (or 15S) looks like a definite buy

The main camera went to 48 megapixels last year. Just curious what you were hoping for?
Sensor upgrade aperture etc.. but yeah forgot they upgraded that last year to 48. Definitely more room for improvements for the main camera.

These new iPhones 16 Pros are really shaping up to be the best upgrade in years for all iPhone users, even from an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple Intelligence, 16GB RAM, all-new designs, better displays, faster chips, radically improved networking, the most advanced camera system ever, souped-up microphones for better interactions with Siri and your friends and family, higher-capacity stacked battery technology, WiFi 7, improved bluetooth, faster charging technologies, literally everything is getting better this year.
Apple employee alert 🚨

Mate, no constructing criticism, no progression!

I have a 14 Pro and was considering the 16 Pro Max but I'm starting to rethink that. I really don't care at all about the AI stuff and it's going to need some years to get refined and more useful anyway. The other stuff is super whatever for me, can take it or leave it.

Welcome advances, but very little incentive to upgrade this year for anyone with iPhone 13 and later, IMO.

The major potential deal breaking feature of the entire 16 line is its ability to support Apple Intelligence. However, as it stands now, AI is a work in progress and I doubt it will mature and catch up with competition before at least iPhone 17.

Is the price getting better?

The Snapdragon X75 is 100% sure. Every year we get new modem. Also for the display, not only bigger, but finally newer OLED material since iPhone 14 Pro.

13 Pro - X60
14 Pro - X65
15 Pro - X70
....

For me to upgrade, it needs to be able to record 8k video. Not because I will actually record in 8k, but it will allow you to record in 4K and have much better image stabilisation. Apple will need to upgrade to a more expensive stacked sensor to do this, but I haven’t heard much talk about including it in the 16pro.

My wife's 12PM launch battery was just replaced in June and I had a whole AC+ hardware swap in July. I am still trying to determine if the 16PM is going to be worth laying out $2500 to upgrade us at this point. :(

Yeah, I'm sure it is going to be another barn buster of a keynote.😆 Meanwhile, I've got an Honor Magic V3 Global coming next month with an 6.4" outer display and a 7.92" inner display that weighs in at 226 grams and is only 9.2mm thick when folded. Basically zero crease as well. Oh, and it can fast charge at 66w wired and 50w wireless. And it runs Android, which I never thought in my life I would say this, is my preference now over iOS.

How many of y’all are going to upgrade from a 14 because Apple will begin charging for satellite access? It’s only two years free. Granted I’m sure it’s a very very small percentage of people who have ever used it outside of the demo.

I’m proud of you.
On a serious note each OS has different workflow so each to their own.

There has been no indication of charging for satellite access, and I suspect they will just add another year to it, just like the did when the 15 was released.

My guess is that SOS will always be free, on all devices, but iMessage/SMS via satellite will have a monthly fee.

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. It's probably the worst iPhone upgrade since 2008. There's literally nothing exciting about the iPhone 16 pro series that you wouldn't find in an iPhone 15 pro series.

  1. You'll be able to get AI on the iPhone 15 pro/pro max.
  2. Nobody cares about the RAM, except for people with no life. Doesn't make a difference to almost anyone.
  3. "All new design" -- Um okay... Not sure what you're looking at, but looks the same to everyone else.
  4. "Better display" -- no evidence of that. Slightly brighter maybe... That's it.
  5. "Faster chips" -- iPhones are already fast. iOS doesn't even max the chip out.
  6. "Radically improved networking" -- for wifi 7 that doesn't exist. 5G capabilities are bogged down by the carriers.
  7. Stacked battery isn't happening in this model.
  8. "Faster charging" who cares? 30W is fast enough.
  9. "Improved bluetooth" Bluetooth is terrible regardless.

The good news for me is this -- your iPhone 15 Pro Max / 14 Pro Max can be used as a $300+ bill credit towards accessories and other purchases when I push you towards a tiered offer iPhone 15 series phone after the 16 comes out. Why? Because the 16 won't be worth the money over the 15.

While I'm bitter that my 14 Pro doesn't qualify for AI, I will be upgrading this year..... after new M4 iPad last month..... watch will be last to consider.... not sure much will change other than form this year? Wallet is taking a slimmer, lighter form, sigh.....

hey - I agree to these points but how bout the rumors of better battery life and thermal design?

Im on the verge of buying 15 Pro (done with 13 PM size) cheap now but seen number of posts how 15 Pro is terribly hot.

These so called thermal issues are to be supposedly addressed with 16 Pro.

Not sure if this is real issue for 15 pro though - ie my 13 PM started being hot with iOS 17 randomly this year as well and stopped with 17.6 or so.

is this something you would consider 15 Pro vs 16 Pro? don't really care about other stuff as you mentioned don't see significant.
