When I've shot in jpg/HEIC I've never noticed photos being over sharpened.
Try LR RAW with all the sharpening and noise processing turned off, save it and compare to jpeg by pixel peeping. Jpegs will look like lego bricks sometimes, plasticky and lifeless

That is capable to handle only low resolution 12 MP.
The limitation is purely on Apple’s side. They have not opened API for 48Mp fully unprocessed RAW, probably they will not open it at all since there is lots of demosaicing going on when it is converted to 12MP “RAW”

Apple isn’t trying hard enough.
The telephoto lens still being 12MP and no obvious improvements is a huge disappointment. Same for the 8Gb memory.

The pixel 9 Pro series has a lot of advantages over the iPhone at the moment (the Tensor G4 being the exception).

I’ve been carefully considering switching but will wait and see if Apple’s 16Pro is really a 15S model before deciding.

It is, but why the app is still at $60?

I am going to get SO much mileage out of the zoom feature of the capture button. When I’m filming skate videos I’m constantly hitting the wrong zoom “button” because I can’t look directly at it while I have to use my eyes to track the skater, zooming too much in or out obviously ruins my clip. I’m very excited for this!

Watching front page tech last night on YouTub, he highly recommends to wait for the new SE, that’s gonna be even better than the pro‘s.

What about the main camera on the 16 pro max?? It’s not getting an upgrade or sensor? No one ever talks about the main camera..

The problem with all of this is the available storage solutions. You start taking 48mp images with live images and suddenly Apple is making a killing off storage plans. I'm not against Apple making money, or even a lot of money, we get great products and services, but they need to really adjust their online storage plans to represent the advancements in technology. Their plans have stayed the same for ages and this new tech, while always amazing, is going to cost people A LOT more in the long run without any changes.

Boy, I really hope they fit a new main sensor (the newer IMX903) in the Pro models. Please don't use the same 48MP sensor for a third year in a row. Yeah, it's very good, but it can certainly get better.
The IMX903 is larger and would require a new lens design but exact with the same aperture of 1.78? Unlikely.

I'm still disappointed that slow-motion video capture is limited to 240 fps. Imagine the gorgeous slow-motion video that could be captured at 960 fps. It's been limited to 240 fps for years now. Yes, I'm aware that there are apps that like SloPro which will simulate 1000 fps capture, but the real thing would be so much better.

Why not JPEG Max?
Actually a good question.

Instead of the open-source WebM, Apple has tried for years to force H265 on everyone. Which requires a license.
And Apple somehow tried to replace the industry standard Qi with its own creation, MagSafe.

So one might ask why Apple is suddenly supporting an open-source image format. The company doesn't earn anything from this. It goes completely against their principles.

So I'm still not sure whether Apple won't actually introduce a licensed modification called “JPEG MAX” in order to cash in further.

I’m getting one just because I want a white one, but other than that, I’m completely satisfied with my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

My 15 Pro camera is the worst since at least the 11 so I hope this fixes those problems.

My 15 Pro won't focus, is pretty blurry, has artifacts and handles light horribly.

will not change the horrible over processing

feel like it’s been years since i’ve liked the images my iphone shoots

Apple at this point would be far better served just to make a camera in a phone body and leave out the extra junk so it can provide bigger sensor sizes and variable apertures. They would make a killing.

“I don’t care how great the camera specs are on iPhone 16. If I don’t have a physical, mechanical action button on my mobile phone for the sole purpose of taking a photo, I won’t buy the phone.”

Apparently *rolls eyes*
