Have there been any comparison from the hands on demos of the screen vs a S24U? That has such a uniquely good screen with the new Corning glass that I was really hoping Apple would match.

Of course, none of this matters as long as the back glass is mostly composed of Apple Engineer’s hopes and dreams. Drop it wrong once and it’s toast.

I look forward to the day when the iPhone Ultra comes out, and it has a titanium back with a slightly recessed MagSafe “window” to allow charging, along with a titanium lip around the front display and cameras, and thicker, more advanced gorilla glass on the front.

The sad fact of life is that I fully expect that the iPhone 16's screen or back will still break even with a short fall to a hard surface. I've used iPhones since the original release and there have been only two times I've dropped one onto a street or sidewalk and both times the front screen broke. In one situation the iPhone was in a case and the screen still broke. Both drops were from about waist height.

Plus, they've made the bezel even thinner on the iPhone 16 which probably means that if the glass wasn't stronger then the front and back would probably have broken even easier than it did on the previous generation iPhones.

Of course, the markets seem to prefer aesthetics over simple ruggedness, but I think Apple has a long history of over emphasizing form over function.

That said, I'm pretty close to getting a new iPhone. Mainly, however, as an always-with-me camera to supplement my interchangeable lens cameras. But, that new iPhone will definitely go into a case as soon as I have it.
