I have the same phone as the writer, purchased on release day. I didn't use any battery saving techniques and the % health now is 98%.

I just think that some batteries are a bit better than others and it's a lottery which you get. I've had both poor and great iPhone batteries in the past - my actual behaviour has remained pretty constant.

'Your mileage may vary.'

You can compare your own battery health with mine, but my guess is that my 94 percent battery capacity is about average, regardless of whether charging limits are on or off. In fact, my iPhone 15 Pro Max was also at 94 percent capacity at the 12 month mark when I did this same test last year.
When you look through classified ads for used iPhones, many will have battery health values well below 90% after just one year of use. 94% is pretty good after one year.

13PM now at 87%. I bought when series 14 came out.

I charge whenever it needs juice often whilst working is usb to laptop, or a quick 30 min burst in morning. Leave it to Charge overnight maybe once a month.
I’m a light user, never game, mostly browse internet. Light photography usage, 50% of phone memory is cat pics! 🐈🐈

I’m probably going to set my 17PM to 95%, merely so it stops charging a bit earlier, possibly reducing heat if I leave it on charge and forget about it. I won’t miss the 5%, I usually have 40-50% left end of day anyway.

I’ve been keeping my iPad Pro at 80% as it's almost always plugged in if I’m not taking it to work. Not sure if it's worth it or not, I’ll likely replace the battery when the time comes anyway, so this might just be delaying it a few months.

Way down the list on this thread, but my 15 Pro Max from November 2023 is 92% on 452 cycles. I charge to 100% overnight on MagSafe. Only use USB-C in non-bedtime scenarios, like in the car.

I do set the limit to 80-90% when using the GPS for long car rides.

iphone 16, first use on release day september 2024 (so just a few days over a year)
95% charge limit.
Turned off Optimised Battery Charging.
224 cycle count
100% capacity

V.Happy - with previous iphones, it's been usually mid 90's after a year.

I've just sold my iPhone 16 Pro which I had set so that it waited to charge to 100% until I needed it. Mostly used MagSafe charging overnight, so it would sit at 80% and then top up just before I got up. That had 274 cycles and health was at 100%.

If you only charge to 80% then you still suffer the degradation. You end up with 80% of your possible 95% battery. Makes no sense at all.

iPhone 15 pro max , 80 limit every now and then manual to 100 , bought at launch

When you don't need the full capacity to get through your day, why not set the lower limit? It will definitely extend the useful battery life. The science is pretty clear on that.

I’ve never understood this stressing about the battery. People charge it only up to 80% so it won’t wear out as fast and the lifespan won’t shorten over time… but then you’re already using it with reduced capacity from the start by limiting it to 80, so what’s the point? It makes no sense at all.

Launch day iPhone 16PM here... I use optimized charging and no other limiting. Currently at 99% maximum capacity and 274 cycles - I think that's pretty OK ;-)
I almost never use anything else than my Anker MagSafe charger on my nightstand. No quick charging unless not possible otherwise.

Just want to share my experience results as well so these are the exact settings used :

80% charge limit since day 1
Mostly dropping to 20% ( so only using 80%-20% range for use) and then recharging using apple original 5w charger with a cable, never charged wireless.

The result :

Cycles 207
Health 100%

The phone is approximately one year old

Better resale value. More useful life when you hand down your phone to a family member.

You can always just replace the battery of course. But why do it when it's avoidable?
But it doesn’t work as shown in everyone’s screenshots.

So, you limit yourself to 60% of your battery so it can be 100% health? Make it make sense.

You can either live with 80% from the day you buy your iPhone, or charge it to 100% and live with 80% after 2 years when it degraded. Hm.

(You can also buy a new battery after 2 years for £80).

It does work. If you look at the science, charging with limits will double or event triple the useful battery life (counted in full cycles). In simple terms, you get more cycles out of the same battery when you use it from 20 to 80 % (or 10 to 90 %).

If it did not work, why would Apple even release this feature and use machine learning to improve battery longevity?
