The 16 plus also got one hour more even if it did get less battery size. The a18 is just incredibly efficient for apple to improve the battery life by 4 hours on the pro. But it kind of sucks the smaller pro now matches the 16 plus battery life.

That's not true for all, while your experience has been that, mine has been different.
I've owned a 15PM since release and I am currently down to 99% since I only charge it with the work PC or my personal Mac.

Battery degradation will depend on your usage and especially how you charge your phone.

Launch day 15PM, slow, wired charging nearly every day. Heavy usage. Battery capacity just dropped to 98% recently.
