It's likely the iPhone 16 may be the last of iPhone models based on the current sealed battery configuration. I expect a radical change with the iPhone 17 in 2025, the first model that will include the provision for a user-swappable battery pack (kind of like the old Samsung Galaxy SIII) to meet the new requirements for user-swappable battery packs that start in calendar year 2027.

But getting back on topic, the new iPhone 16 Pro models may get a reconfigured interior to accommodate the updated back camera sensors.

It’s also expected to be a just a bit larger than the current cameras.

Every year is the same thing every year the newest release is better than the other blah blah blah. Who cares I own a 14 Pro Max I make very good use of it. The photos are excellent I’m happy. Do I really care if I’m going to buy a phone otherwise it matters not. And then there are people complain about battery life the more camera options you have the more drain.

Global Shutter. I was hoping that Sonys global shutter technology would filter down to the iphone. I guess it will in time. The ability to freeze moving object - such as propellors and fan blades would be a game changer for me. I would even swap brands for it. (and then back again when Apple caught up).

In my experience, even between the 14 Pro Max and the 15 Pro Max there was quite a noticeable improvement to image quality, especially on the telescopic lens. I feel a lot more confident using the 5x option now.

Would love to see a 48-mp or even a 24-mp sensor on future telescopic lenses over more zoom. Image quality is there now, but I'm hoping for better detail in future iterations (which the 48-mp sensor certainly affords).

Here's one off the 15 Pro Max 5x lens, I think it does a solid job.

Geckos always look angry. Ever seen him smile?

Apple should just release a dedicated camera if high-end photography is the goal.

Apple is also working on new and improved battery technology to replace the decades-old Lithium technology. We've maxed out its usefulness and it's time for something new. I really hope that Apple is the company that brings the next big battery tech to the market.

Good. I want the biggest camera improvements we can get each year. I don't even care if that is ALL that changes.

I thought the camera was the selling point since at least the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
For me personally, the camera is good enough. I actually opted for the iPhone 15 Plus (instead of another Pro Max) this time around, because battery life was more important to me than yet another camera spec bump. I cannot even tell the difference (for my basic instagram shots) between my previous iPhone 12 Pro Max and the latest.

I basically rate a phone camera by "how blurry is the zoom" to get an idea nowadays haha
Good enough is fine for you, great. Me I look for the small improvements and do not rate a phone camera by "how blurry is the zoom."

Then why bother? In fact people take photos of many more things than those. Photography is the single most popular hobby in the United States.
Where are you getting this information? Photography isn't even close to being the most popular hobby in the US, percentage wise.

I love the convenience of the iPhone camera. However, I miss the days of film, light, and the darkroom process. It slowed the process of capturing your subject. You managed your equipment to adapt to your environment and that gave pause to enable your artistic focus.

Digital photography has produced a plethora of superior photographers but it has also produced a sea of junk photos.

Better speakers? Nah. Increased refresh rate? Nope. A couple of hours extra battery capacity? No. More RAM? No… BETTER CAMERAS!
