Well that is because of Brazil, China, India and Russia forming their own trade group (BRIC) and routes, aka Silk Road 2.0 etc etc. Kind of stupid to ship oil to India when Russia has it right there. Same with Germany basically getting screwed over about Russian oil also. Ukraine all about oil; same with Israel and Palestine conflict; all about oil and the majority of the US believing it all belongs to us and our allies. The Petro dollar is in serious threat right now and the US is going to be in serious trouble if it goes away; and eventually I think it is going to go away.

Pretty much all of the modern world's conflicts can be tied back to oil.
Reliable energy leads to prosperity. These green options also depend on oil to manufacture so does many earth moving machines, petrol is going nowhere unlike what the green message is making one to believe. Empty those pockets for the green revolution 😂

There is a saying that once the common person jumps on something it’s either too late or it’s time to pull out of it.

The blatant racism in this thread is really...something.

I for one understand Apple has strict requirements of their supply chain and manufacturing and will hold judgement of the product quality until the device is in my hand.

Diversity in supply chain and manufacturing are a good thing. Especially in the current geopolitical climate.

Agreed on all points. Moving away from such strict reliance on China is a good thing. India is just a first step, but I expect we will see tech manufacturing of this kind spread to more countries in the future.

And yeah, the racism...oof. Not that I expected too much from the always-insightful MR commentariat, but "curry" and "feces", really? Stay classy.

china doesnt hate the US either but we considered them a threat purely for geopolitical reasons, right now india is not conforming with US on embargo on russian oil and does not toe the same line when it comes to ukraine.
No, India won’t toe to USA line on all matters. India is an independent democratic country fyi. India won’t steel tech nor use it for domestic market. They comply with WHO, UN, Global Intellectual Property Rights act, help as much as possible(COVID Vaccines for example), and have free press just like USA. Coercing India will not work unless some decoys occupy the highest chair 😂

Since when is India an "enemy" of the US? In fact, the US and India are known to be allies and share excellent relations.
India never been an ally nor an enemy. India approaches these business relationship purely based on self interests and boosting economy. India and America shares lots of common values since both are very large and diverse democracies.

For Indians, yes.
But not much, let us see the prices of IP16. The prices of IP15P and IP15PM is so high people are not even buying them in stores instead they use scalpers to ship it from the cheap overseas cities in USA, Singapore, HongKong, Middle East

At the moment it probably costs them a bit more, with all new factories and training, probably higher failure rates at first. But it diversifies away from China so it'll save Apple money in the long run. China is about to become the world's most valuable economy whereas India has decades of growth. India right now is where China was when China started their journey to becoming obscenely rich and educated.
China’s economy is struggling. Anything we can do to untangle ourselves for, them is a good thing.

Insurance in case china decides to go for Taiwan in 2028.
China taking Taiwan would put a whole lot of US and Japanese companies on the frying pan, so that chances of that happening are slim. Intel would probably like it though since they get soak up all the TMSC jobs away from TMSC. :D

This might be a dumb question but I honestly don’t know, why aren’t these us based jobs? I assume labor is just cheaper there?
Manufacturing labor too expensive here. It might not be if we figured a good way to do universal health coverage for everyone; although that would mean tax increases, which isn't popular.

We (United States) have basically moved from the industrial age to quite frankly being consumers.

Its not racist to point out that a country isn't the US's ally (India). Is it racist to call out Russia as well?

I think China needs to take a rain check on that “World’s most valuable economy”…
