These increases mean that iPhone 16 Pro models are now nearly as heavily as iPhone 14 Pro models

Um, no - The 16 Pro is still lighter than the 13 and 14 Pro, and the 16 Pro Max is lighter than the 12, 13 and 14 Pro Max.

When they announced that the band was titanium I assumed (wrongly) that would result in a lighter device. How is the new one heavier? Just because of a larger battery?

No

16 Pro is getting close to the weight of my current 14 Pro which has always felt uncomfortably heavy. I'll pass.

It's "heavier" but if you consider the "density" - or how heavy it feels - as a function of Weight/(Height x Width) then the 16 Pro Max should actually feel lighter than the 15 Pro Max. 16 Pro, however, will feel heavier than the 15 Pro but not as heavy as the 13 and 14 Pros.
Appreciate the chart. I have 14Pro now and always think it's a rock. Does that mean 16 Pro will actually feel heavier in my hands than 16 Pro max?

Was expecting it to be heavier due to the increase in screen size. But very minimal increase only.

This is on purpose. To make users happy about better battery and get used to the weight increase. Then when next year they introduce iPhone Air, everyone will be shocked how light and amazing it is :)

New Apple Watch is also heavier.

The new iPhone 16 Pro models are slightly heavier compared to the iPhone 15 Pro models, according to Apple's tech specs for the devices.

iPhone-16-Pro-16x9.jpg

Here are the listed weights for all of the devices:

  • iPhone 15 Pro: 6.60 ounces (187 grams)
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: 7.81 ounces (221 grams)
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 7.03 ounces (199 grams)
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 7.99 ounces (227 grams)
This means the iPhone 16 Pro is 6% heavier than the iPhone 15 Pro, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is 2.5% heavier than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

These increases mean that iPhone 16 Pro models are now nearly as heavily as iPhone 14 Pro models, but the titanium frame on iPhone 16 Pro models should still make the devices feel lighter in the hand if you are upgrading from an iPhone 14 Pro model. If you are upgrading from an iPhone 15 Pro model, expect a bit heavier device.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are equipped with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively, which are larger than the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. To learn more about the devices, which are available to pre-order starting Friday, read our coverage of Apple's announcement.

Heavier while equipped with 5+ year old tech with today's prices 😂

Correct, that's how your hands should perceive them. Max - larger, lighter, Pro - smaller, heavier

My father is visiting, hobbling along with his 6S, and it is shocking the weight difference between it and my 15 Pro.
I'm currently using an iPhone SE (1st generation). I plan to buy the 16 Pro, going from 113 g to 199 g… I love small phones, but they feel like a dead-end as every app is now designed for phones larger than pie servers.

My girlfriend still uses the 13 Mini and there is no hope for any small iPhone in the future.

We will both switch to Android foldable phones soon.

It's very sad to leave the best OS and hardware ever, we both used iPhones since 2007 and were upgrading every year until the Mini was stopped.

The main reason I went from 13 Pro to 15Pro (pro Max actually) was because the 13 was unbearably heavy and badly balanced.

No way i'm buying a 16 then.

How does the titanium frame make the 16pro "feel lighter in the hand" when the phone itself is nearly as heavy as the 14Pro? Lighter "in the hand" compared to what? Seems on a device this size, weight is weight.

The extra weight compared to the 15 pros’ is the reason why I returned both the Pro
& Pro Max. And the camera control was extremely annoying to handle and inefficient. This was only year I’m not upgrading.

agreed - i hate the weight of this 15 pro max so i’ll just go for the standard 16 pro instead so it’s a “wee bit” lighter? (sucks to have to upgrade to pro’s to hold the trade in value but there are worse things i guess)
Strange thing is that 16 Pro feels heavier than the 15 & 16 pro max. More dense weight within a smaller casing, I’d rather just go with the Max.

I’ve tried the 16 PM for a week but it still feels slightly heavier than the 15 PM.
