Great article! Have a hunch pro models will have similar arrangement with 3 camera models in a vertical, traffic-light pattern. This spaces out cameras one and 3 to a human-level IPD. Great for spatial video.

FWIW, the capture button should be on the lower left corner of phone. This would give gamers L and R buttons.

more buttons to worry about! older smartphones have this features already, dedicated shutter!

wouldn’t be surprise if iPhone will come with clockwork a wind-up toy

I’ve been suspecting the iPhone 16 is going to be the big deal.

My guess is that the capacitive button could be the action button moved to a more comfortable place to press, and capable of several actions at the same time. But who knows…

I’ve always held the opinion hat smartphones should have more buttons. Though I’m not a fan of capacitive buttons. I’d love to have page-up/page-down buttons though.

Skeptical that this will be an improvement. Seems like its a solution in search of a problem. But, happy to be proven wrong...

I might be in the minority but I find the current location of the power button dumb and prone to mis-presses especially if you're using the opposite side for leverage to actuate the volume buttons.
Yep, they should move it back to the top. It works for the iPads, so I don’t see an important reason to keep it on the side.

One nice thing about the iPhone 4 and 5 form factor was that you could stand the iPhone on its long side. The power button currently sabotages this, and the new capture button will do the same.

Tomorrow Xiaomi will announce a couple of new phones and I guess they will likely be more innovative than iPhones. I like the crazy ideas Xiaomi has. For example on a Xiaomi phone Android is installed twice. You can use two different Google accounts for both installations and use one for work for example and one privately.

This year's iPhone lineup was again very boring and overpriced. And they now even put a chip on the back glass that makes it impossible to replace without Apple's permission.

Apple learned that they do not have to innovate any more, because people will buy their phones anyway. I really hope that the Samsung S24 Ultra will make a big jump that will force Apple to go forward much faster.

a "capture" button? aw c'mon apple, just call it a "cut" button and along with the existing "action" button market the phone as being the first phone that allows every day people to be pro film directors!

We just need something new. I'm keeping my 12 Pro for now because not even the 15 Pro feels new.
My 12 Pro felt new coming from the 8. We just need something different.

That is a dangerous thing to ask for.
Change, just because you want something different..

Even if they remove the notch/hole it will not feel new. So not sure what you expect them to come up with at this point.
