There is a long-running iOS 18 battery life complaint thread on MacRumors that was started while the update was still in beta, but there have been a fresh wave of complaints following iOS 18's launch and the debut of the iPhone 16 models.
How much more proof do we need that Tim Cook does not care about quality control for software? He is a mediocre suit with an MBA degree who is much more concerned about maximizing profits for shareholders than fixing buggy software.

I have had every phone since the iPhone 3GS and I can tell you honestly that this battery life is on par with like my iPhone 7. It’s so embarrassingly bad. Not even halfway through the day with minimal use (mostly using my iPad and MacBook) and it’s under 50% easily. Using basic native applications with very low screen brightness and other settings optimized and I can just see the battery being siphoned away

I’m on 17.7 because this story returns every year more or less. I’m also still on 13 mini so battery is extra critical. I’ll update when apps start to cease to function thank you very much.

Glad it is not only me. 16 Pro Max here. With my previous 15 Pro Max, I would always just plug it in when I went to bed.

Now, I have to keep my eye on it and end up having to charge it in the evenings especially when I’m using my Apple Watch to track a long bike ride or using transit app to track my bus ride.

yeah, like some others in the thread i saw this on a 14pro yesterday. the phone was very hot to the touch and burning battery like crazy. nothing really stood out in the battery pane... rebooting the phone fixed it. i don't think this had ever happened to me before with my 14pro across all the iOS versions i've used.

It's alarming that these battery life issues keep coming up. Personally, I have the best battery life on my iPhone 15 Pro in a long time. But the last 2-3 months on iOS 17 have been absolutely terrible. It would sometimes drop 10% in 15 minutes when I was just listening to music. iOS 18 fixed that for me luckily.
But now other devices are being affected, which seems to me like they are focusing on the wrong things and losing track as iOS gets more complex.
As the top comment in this thread says, they should really spend a year fixing all the problems instead of giving us features that no one asks for. Even though my battery life is better now, I think I have never seen so many (especially visual) bugs/glitches in an iOS update as I have in iOS 18.

Hmm "Always on Display" by chance? I always lower the brightness and turn on airport mode when I'm not using it.

I have the 18.1 beta on my 16PM, battery life is odd. Some days it's great, others (like today) not so great. It's currently at 43%, been off its charger since about 7:00am, moderate use and no phone calls. Past experience with phones, it should be at around 60-65% right now considering the phone is just short of a month old.
Same here with 16 Pro

Personally, I haven't noticed much with my iPhone 16 Pro. I figured the decline in battery life was since I came from an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and I actually think it's in-line with that? My phone comes off the charger at 7:30am. It's currently nearing 1am and I'm at 29%. Today was a little lighter than usual, but I typically go to bed by 12-12:30am most nights (don't work Fridays so I'm up later today) and I'd say the average is 15-20%.

Apple really needs to take a year, pause the new products, new features, and give us a good ole fashioned Snow Leopard and iOS 12 update. Focus on fixes.
Unfortunately, the hope of something like that ever happening again died with Steve Jobs. Today's Apple is primarily focused on pumping out new shiny features (among other things) to keep sales high to fight against the law of large numbers so they can appease the shareholders.

When you fly internationally, your phone is not connecting to a network, sometimes for several hours
When you land you know you'll be connecting to a foreign network and you'll get big roaming charges so ideally you switch it off before you land and connect when you get on the hotel wifi- if possible. But sometimes you forget and you get a messages saying 'Welcome to...' and then you switch it off
When you get home and see your bill for that minute or so , you are staggered, firstly for what it's cost but secondly for the astonishing amount of data it's consumed. How could it have consumed several gigabytes of data so quickly?
It's then you realise just what all those apps are doing in the background even when they are supposedly switched off.
They are checking in constantly and consuming battery life all the time. Some are worse than others but I think they all do it. That's why they push you to have their apps. It isn't really because you get a better experience, it's so they can constantly exchange information about what you are doing.
Get rid of as many apps as you can and use links in Safari for as much as possible. I know for sure you'll see a big difference in battery life because that's where an incredible amount of it is going.

I haven't noticed any issues on my 16PM, battery life has been fine even with iOS 18.1 B4, 5, 6 and currently 7. I do turn off the Always on Display on every phone that's had it because wearing the Apple Watch pretty much 24/7 makes it a pointless feature for me, and I don't care how efficient it is, it does have a noticeable effect on the battery life.

Really, I thought it was just me, but when I got the new 13 pro max, the battery is so amazing and I charge it once per 2 days new. But 16 pro max, nah, it needs charge in less than a day.

Copy paste every year, any new phone takes time to learn, download and sync users data and usage style. I got my 13 mini replaced, same thing the new one was worse the my old one with 86% battery, a few weeks later I'm good now and its great.

Is your Apple Intelligence switched on? I didn’t notice a battery drain until I turned mine on. If I had to guess it’s doing a hell of a lot of indexing.
