You could run this article every year when a new major iOS version is released. I don't see why this is news?

My iPhone 16 Pro Max battery life is fine. Compared to my old iPhone 13 Pro Max (83% battery health), my 16 has AOD enabled and i use the screen at 100% brightness and still easily have >50% at the end of the day.

If they improve battery drain (which they usually do with the iOS minor updates) then it's just a bonus for me.
Agree. Certainly the idle battery drain though needs fixing. 2% an hour is not brilliant

The quote from huan is roughly what I have experienced with my 16 Pro occasionally. However, I have not tried any of the frame limit settings etc. Also noticing in the battery section of settings that 'home & lockscreen' are always the top battery users where that never used to be the case on my 15 Pro.

I noticed the battery drain the worst in the first 2 weeks, way longer than indexing/new phone setting up battery drain should take. Ending up with 50-60% battery left at the end of the day when I would normally have 80-90% left with my 15 Pro. The last 2 weeks I've noticed a definite improvement, I'm seeing 70-90% by the end of the day with it averaging in the high 80s and low 90s on a light use day. Still not great in comparison, my 15 Pro on a light use day would be at 95-97% at the end of the day. I was blown away by my 15 Pro's battery life. The 16 Pro is much more similar to how my 14 Pro was but slightly worse. Assuming software fixes need to occur. Have also still felt like the 16 Pro's touch screen sometimes isn't as responsive as it should be. This has been a buggy year for Apple software. They need to get it together over there! Maybe pull some people off the vision pro team or something... lol.

You saw 95-97% battery after a whole day of light use with your old iPhone15 Pro?

Sorry but I don’t believe that is possible. Even not using the phone at all the battery would decline more than that.

my iPhone 14 Pro Max has had horrible battery life on iOS18 until this wednesday...and now the battery life quite ok again?

Apple should let people disable all the AI bullcrap like face, text and object recognition and it will already give 2-3 hours more battery life. Lots of other under-the-hood features like iCloud, iCloud photos and Siri also suck up tons of battery

Not sure if anyone else had this happen, but Flashlight drained a lot of battery off screen on standby for three hours for me, even though I had not even used the flashlight at all that day.

I see a lot of battery drain during standby on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Using it does make it better but things like Find My and other background processes consume a lot of battery when the device is idle, compared to my 14 Pro Max which I traded in and was at 83% battery capacity after two years.

iPhone users complaining about battery drain after an iOS update shouldn’t be news at this point, it’s expected

They should update to the 18.1 beta. Especially the last one has been much more bearable. Removing widgets that need to ping a server like Weather, especially if they're on your lock screen, also helps. iOS 18 has been fine for me, perhaps better than 17, but I always hop on the first beta of a new version so I don't get to see the final touches they put on the previous OS.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m having battery drain on my 15PM since iOS 18, and “Home & Lock Screen” has been my #1 battery drain for the last two weeks. So, it’s probably not your iPhone 16 Pro that’s the issue but iOS 18.

My battery life is amazing, I go all day and probably have 30-40% left by the end of the day (and I play Pokemon Go a lot).

I do think the problem may be related to iCloud backups. I always start from scratch (i like to go throw all the settings and downloading apps I actually need).

Sometimes the issue is in the backup, and when using them on a new phone the issue could carry on - or be amplified on a newer device.

I used to work for Apple for 8 years and would see this all the time. If you are having major battery issues try erasing the phone and setting it up as new (don’t use a backup) and who may see these problems be gone.

I literally have hundreds of apps. The process to do that would be insane. Many games where I would lose progress, re-setting up every app and every folder. That's a non-starter. Apple just needs to fix it IMO.

Now, one thing I have tried to rule that issue out is to do a reset of the device and wipe everything, set it up as new, test, and the issue remains for me. Then I restore it back to what I had.

I have a launch day 16 Plus and just installed the 18.1 Public Beta on Tuesday. I can say for sure that the battery life has improved since doing that. If folks are having issues with battery life, I would recommend updating to the Public Beta or waiting for the RC, which should hit next week.

My experience is that this only happens when the camera app is open in the background or when you try to open it, as it causes a crash. Unfortunately, it’s currently quite buggy.

I think that is actually quite good advice and I actually did that when I had battery life problems on my old 13 Pro.

The best way to test if it’s errant software (for those migrating to iPhone 16s from older devices) would be to back up the phone as is and restore the phone, but minus the backup. That means you start from scratch, as if you purchased a phone for the first time. Backups can become corrupt. Before I moved over to my 16 Pro Max from my 13 Pro, I deleted my back up and redid it with (recently released) iOS 18. I then restored that new backup of iOS 18 onto my new 16. I’m on 18.0.1 and haven’t experienced any unexplained drain.

I take my phone off the charger at 6 AM and I'm usually well over 80% when I leave work at 4:30. That's with a decent amount of usage checking emails, listening to podcasts, Facebook, etc.

iOS 18.1 Developer beta on 16PM with no issues here. The battery life is really good.

The early beta's of 18 on my 15PM were dogpoop. I mean totally horrible for battery life. But such is the life of running beta software.

Had a 16pro was not impressed with battery life, got a 16plus been very impressed with battery

Not sure what's going on.. could be that 16 pro and pro Max are too small of batteries for A18 Pro and 120hz and all that? Seems unlikely in case of PM, but maybe pro? being 3582 maH.

I think people with regular and plus models generally are not having the same issue to the volume that is with pros (probably some that are tho), but idk.

What's the battery screen and app usage showing on all those phones with battery issues? I have zero battery issues and when I check what apps are sucking battery, it's usually safari and mail, which tracks with my usage. I don't have any social media apps installed, including YouTube, which a lot of people seem to think is a problem.

Again, no battery issues for me, but all the sudden I can't access Spotlight with a swipe down. I didn't change anything, it just stopped working; checked the settings, rebooted the phone twice, turned off spotlight and turned it back on... swiping down does nothing... 🤷🏻‍♂️
