Apple is expected to announce a new entry-level iPhone model tomorrow, and it is increasingly likely that the device will be named iPhone 16E.

Most rumors have referred to the device as a new iPhone SE, since it will succeed the iPhone SE (3rd generation), but there is mounting evidence that the device will be named iPhone 16E instead of iPhone SE (4th generation).

As a refresher, the iPhone 16E name was first mentioned in December by Fixed Focus Digital, an account with more than two million followers on Chinese social media platform Weibo. Later that month, a leaker known as Majin Bu on X also cited a source who claimed that the next iPhone SE will actually be named iPhone 16E.

In a follow-up post today, Majin Bu cited a source who has apparently seen an iPhone box with the name iPhone 16E on it. In addition, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman believes that Apple CEO Tim Cook's teaser post about a "new member of the family" being announced this Wednesday suggests that the device will indeed have a new name. And last, there are several Amazon listings for so-called iPhone 16E cases, although that could be guesswork.

The device is rumored to feature a larger 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, an A18 chip, a USB-C port, Apple Intelligence support, an Apple-designed 5G modem, and more. Apple should reveal pricing and a release date tomorrow.

I think it would’ve looked nicer with the flash below the camera rather than on the side.

Do you feel the same with iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone SE 2016, iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPhone 6s/6s Plus, iPhone 7/8 [and maybe their Plus counterpart?], iPhone SE 2020, iPhone SE 2022?

Who leaked this?? Honestly I don’t trust it.

Sorry, but it doesn’t make too sense to me.

Anyway it doesn’t matter too much, cause anyway we are just from few hours to know the truly truth.

LOL, so now Apple needs to make this SE iPhone every single year, or else it will have skipping names? 16E for 3 years then a sudden jump to 20E.. What a marvelous numbering LOL.
Not necessarily since you can still find prior years phones still sold by Apple and its resellers (15 series, 14 series outside Europe, and so on).

It will kinda make sense if it uses the same A18 chip that the "base" iPhone 16 also uses. It is still another branch. iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, and iPhone 16E. Now they can/will retire the base and Plus, and just keep the E(conomy) model in production until it's convenient (too slow, too little RAM) to refresh to the next one.

Keeping the SE name would be better, so customer don't expect a refresh every year. With a name like 16E, I would expect a 17E next Spring, and a 18E the next following year, etc. At least with the SE name, 1 year from now you can still buy, and not visually see that you are a generation behind.

Unless they are planning to refresh yearly increase mid-cycle upgrade rates?

I could see annual refreshes to bring in the current flagship A-series chip (and possibly nothing else, outside of sporadic design changes every few years) with releases staggered to spur more midcycle upgrades.

If Apple truly intends to make AI features a point of focus across the company, then having as many phones as possible on the most current processors would make sense.

Probably. It will definitely become the new member of the 16 family. Should know for sure in the next 12 hours or so. Excited to see the new iPhone SE.
