If this means they are committing to a yearly schedule then all is great from my POV.
Hmm. If it is on an annual schedule as you suggest, perhaps it is intentionally a midyear phone to level out production capabilities. After all Tim Cook was the best supply chain manager on the planet before becoming CEO.

Those mock ups look nice. If they look like that, they will be some pretty looking budget phones. Black and white would be perfect. I still find it odd that they went with preschool colors last time around with the budget iPhones.

If that’s true, then Tim’s teaser of welcoming a new member to the family could actually refer to a new product line that will be updated annually to a new (enter number) E device.

At least marketing department at Apple keeps innovating.

Guess E is for Entelligence - since Apple Intelligence can‘t jump, they go with an other letter now 😂

Keeping the SE name would be better, so customer don't expect a refresh every year. With a name like 16E, I would expect a 17E next Spring, and a 18E the next following year, etc. At least with the SE name, 1 year from now you can still buy, and not visually see that you are a generation behind.
This is what makes me think it won't be called the 16E, but maybe Apple don't care as people will buy it anyway.

Unless they are planning to refresh yearly increase mid-cycle upgrade rates?

I could see annual refreshes to bring in the current flagship A-series chip (and possibly nothing else, outside of sporadic design changes every few years) with releases staggered to spur more midcycle upgrades.

If Apple truly intends to make AI features a point of focus across the company, then having as many phones as possible on the most current processors would make sense.

Very interesting take. I could see this

Seriously with all the renders of the supposed iPhone 17’s popping up recently, I’m increasingly liking the look of this phone’s basic design (camera bump).

Are there any rumors about its camera? I bought an iPhone 15 regular but it’s way too heavy and big, so if this new iPhone E has an equally good camera I might actually consider switching.

Wouldn’t mind it if they just called it the iPhone E (for Entry). That way they can keep it going for a few years alongside the regular numbered phones without having to change it.

will be out of date when 17 comes out, will the e be refreshed each year
