This confirms the rumored RAM amounts for these devices.

Compared to the iPhone 16 series, RAM has increased in all models except for the base model.

Here is how much RAM is in the iPhone 16 models:
  • iPhone 16: 8GB
  • iPhone 16 Plus: 8GB

I wonder what the utility of the extra 4 GB on the Air/Pro is (12 vs 8 GB). Do you need it for Apple Intelligence? Or maybe for more advanced photo video recording features?

My current iPhone 13 has only 4 GB. I can't say that I noticed any performance problems so far.

I was convinced I was going standard 17 if the screen was promotion. Obviously, we got that but I also wanted the reduced weight over my current 14 pro, got that too. Part of me probably wouldn’t mind a bigger screen. Bigger screen and less weight than 17 standard is getting attractive to me. Additional $200, not so much, we’ll see.

Compared to the base 17? No way. The air is a product no one asked for and is neutered in every way. Only a single camera, no mmWave support, $200 more than the base 17, small battery, etc.
mmWave support is typically only important to tech spec chasers who spend their time using Speedtest just because.

This is going to sound sarcastic, but it's not meant to be. Thank you for that insight and push. I am genuinely attracted to the Air. I am a current 16PM user, but want something smaller and lighter to wield in one hand. I take a lot of photos, but I don't think I am coming close on average to using the full extent of the current 3 lens setup, so I've overcome that obstacle. The lack of mmWave was also holding me up, but to your point, does it really, truly matter in my everyday use? The answer is very likely no.

Guess that just leaves the battery life question, which really is so much less of an issue than a lot of us thought if the numbers on the Apple website are to be believed.

Once the iPhone disappears in a case, I never think about how it looks. Everything interesting happens on the screen. But maybe that's just me.

I'm not saying the Air is not an attractive package. I would be worried about battery life though.
I’m completely the opposite, I don’t use cases and care a lot about the styling and aesthetics of a phone. How it looks and feels is as important as whats on the screen for me. The ridiculously high bump kind of ruins it in my opinion, also the lack of a physical SIM slot.

I currently use the 16PM as well. I don't take a lot of pictures. My phone is charged twice a day from and to work while using CarPlay. I also use a different phone for work. As such, I am going to give the Air a go. I don't live on my personal phone. I use my iPad Pro or iMac the most on a daily basis.
