My comment was a joke.... I hoped that was obvious enough that I didn't need to clarify that.
mine too, mine was even more obvious. i know a lot of people when they make a mistake they hide behind "it was a joke" but all good...glad you google it, if it was a real joke...not a good one , because here people can believe what you said

Because it was an obvious joke you downvoted my comment? I really don't care about upvotes/downvotes, I just think that's an interesting way to laugh at a joke.

Just because they can make it that thin, they did not need too. Its is just a demo in tech.

And I guess the most important question is who asked for this?
Me. I absolutely hate the weight and bulk of current phones.

With battery being so thin, if this iPhone bends, the battery might catch on fire extremely quickly.
Not a fan of that.
Besides, one case can defeat the entire purpose of being this thin.
With that being said though, maybe in an imaginary world where iPhone air mini was introduced for those people who just want a premium phone and doesn’t care about battery life at all, but extremely care about weight of their iPhone.
1. Any battery pack can easily be bent, this is a nonissue.
2. Why on earth would you put a case on a phone. Apple spends billions a year on R&D to engineer a masterful phone only for you to cover it with an ugly case? Makes zero sense.

That's why its called iPhone "Air", for the swears that will be in the air once you're down to 5% with no charger in site half way through the day.
Its 2025, where are you going without a charger or access to one? The only time my phone has ever died is because I didn’t use it for several days and forgot to put it on the charger. I wake up, my phone is on a charger, on the way to the office I have a wireless charger built into my car. I arrive at my office there is a charger (since I am a developer its plugged in most of the time anyways so I can debug code and test my app), I go to lunch meetings most places have wireless charges built into their tables now. I go home and watch TV, my couch has a built in wireless charger.

Even if you go camping most camping gear/backpacks now have solar panels to charge your devices

Just because they can make it that thin, they did not need too. Its is just a demo in tech.
Yes they did.

I am intrigued by this "Air" but the standard rule is to never buy a first generation anything. I'll wait for initial reviews before I consider purchasing this. Good luck to all those who purchase on launch day.

I say the Lighter the better. I have grown to strongly dislike how heavy my 16 Pro is, I don't plan to ever buy a phone this heavy again. I live in the US so I'm fine with having to charge my phone more often as I have access to electrical outlets both at home and at work.

Ahh, the people that were never going to buy this phone in the first place come in to complain about it for 5 pages. They’ll tell everyone that they use their phones 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without access to a wall or car charger until they get home at night. 😂

Yeah, we get it!

To each their own. I read here or on 9to5 some people are existed about something different. Good for them.

I consider myself a power user on my device. I use it for personal use but for all sorts of other things such as social media on various brands I own. My iPhone 14 Pro Max battery drains quickly for me. My battery health is at 78% which I honestly don't thin is too bad for almost 36 months of use!

My opinion is power users often tend to think about their usage when reading / commenting about a device such as this Air report. Not everyone is GLUED to their devices for hours upon hours a day. I know a few people that have iPhones and hardly use their device all day unless it is for a phone call. They own businesses and are constantly working for 8-10 hours a day. This leaves them ending the day with plenty of battery.

Just because some of us are on our devices for LONG periods of time during the day doesn't mean others are. I'm sure various consumers will purchase a device like this and be more than happy with the battery. Worst case the buy the MagSafe battery back and are good to go.

As it has been commented in other iPhone Air posts: it’s better to wait one or two generations to get the iPhone Air, for several reasons. One, the battery technology will improve (the battery for this year’s iPhone Air will have the same composition and design). Two, the SoC will get much more efficient when they switch to the new 2nm technology. Three, this iPhone Air is said to use the first gen C1 modem, which is more power efficient than Qualcomm’s, yes, but I suspect the following C2 and C3 will offer better performance at lower power consumption, or… who knows! Maybe it even comes embedded into the main SoC!

On top of all of that, this is a new device from Apple, a first gen device, and any flaws that this iPhone shows over the first months will likely be addressed on the next iPhone Air model.
This is always true, though. The next one will (almost) always be better.

The iPhone 17 Air internal battery pack is just 2.49mm thick and appears to be about half as thin as the iPhone 17 Pro battery

You mean "twice as thin". The iPhone 17 Air is MORE THIN, not less thin than the iPhone 17 Pro. You could say "half as thick", but "half as thin" has the opposite meaning.

Me! I didn't ask for a thin iPhone specifically, but I absolutely want something lighter than my 16 Pro. I hated the weight of my 13 Pro, and I equally hate it with my 16. Battery life isn't a huge concern as I rarely have more than 2 hours day of usage.

I won't be upgrading for a few years, but I am interested. The rumored screen size is too big for me, however.

Have you surveyed all people to determine what they want? This phone is exactly what I want. As an office based worker I am next to a charging cable all day every day. Battery life only really comes into question at weekends if I am out all day. Even then my phone usage is mostly music via bluetooth headphones so the screen is hardly used. I do wish people would stop making bold statements about what other people want.
One of my pet peeves on forums -- people who say "most people", like as you said, somehow did a poll and have data to back up their comment, and even worse, the ones who think they are so knowledgeable that they know the EXACT percentage -- 95% of people or some "out of thin air" guesstimation! Hilarious!

By this point I don't even know what my options are anymore and if I am even going to consider an iPhone. Apple has basically pushed me out of their own lineup with their bigger phones obsession. I don't want a big phone, and no, I don't think the only way is mini. Indeed, it's the best form factor for me and those who think alike, but I wouldn't even mind anything below a 6" display. iPhone X-11 Pro size would work well too. 15 Pro is a stretch, but it's also getting old now. So I just don't see how this will continue for me personally. And no, I won't be getting a foldable. I don't need that at all. It's sad, but I might actually use a phone that's not an iPhone for the first time since 2008 once I eventually retire my 13 mini. It's sad to see this trend, oh well.

this is literally the opposite of what people want. Also it's not 5.5mm thick if half the phone is a 9mm thick camera bump. These phones will likely get returned in record numbers when people who don't look into it realize how crappy the battery life is
Agree. This is like the old droid X of the day where they claimed it was so thin yet had the thickness nearly double up top. Shouldn't be allowed to claim it is X thin if it is not that the entire way through.

Bendgate 2.0. Hopefully it doesn't catch fire in your pocket like the old samsung note 7 when it bends and punctures the battery.

For real. No one is FORCING anyone to buy what they don't want. Apple currently provides plenty of options to appeal to a wide range of people:

iPhone 15
iPhone 16e
iPhone 16
iPhone 16 Plus
iPhone 16 Pro
iPhone 16 Pro Max

Come September, it will likely be:

iPhone 16
iPhone 16e
iPhone 17
iPhone 17 Air
iPhone 17 Pro
iPhone 17 Pro Max

And that's not even counting all the refurbs they offer, which come with a brand new shell and battery, backed by a one-year warranty. And before anyone yells out, "Oh, but they're killing the 17 Plus." Well, sales show that relatively few people were buying it, so it's getting the axe, just like the 12 Mini and 13 Mini before it.

If the 17 Air turns out to be a sales failure, it will get the axe too, and then the complainers can sit back and gloat. But until then, I'm at least willing to allow Apple to "Think Different" with the 17 Air and give it a chance.

The solution to this is obvious - sell people a battery pack that will make your amazingly slim iPhone Air fatter than Pro max.
Actually, it *is* a great solution since a battery pack only makes the iPhone Air the same or fatter than a Pro max when it's actually needed, rather than all the time. In my case, I look forward to carrying a super light/thin phone 95% of the time and only a fat iPhone Pro Max sized one when traveling.

iOS 26 needs a drastic improvement in daily battery life before it launches. iOS 26 will need to squeeze out all it can for the iPhone 17 Air to decent daily battery life.

Seems obvious that you need to first make a thin iPhone with a thin battery so that you can then make a foldable iPhone.
