I tried to disprove this about the iPhone 6 but it turns out you are right. I didn’t remember that it also had a camera bump.

They were ashamed of lazy engineering at one time. They tried to hide the camera bump (with angled press photos) and notch (with dark default wallpapers) at first. Now they're proud of it. The camera bump will take up a quarter of the phone's back with the 17, and the notch is now huge, has become an island that makes even more of the display useless (what good is that section of display above the island?), and is championed as "dynamic" and "magical".

Could you imagine how awesome the battery life would be if they just made the rest of the phone the same thickness as the camera bump? I am really getting sick of not having a phone that just lays flat on the table! I see no point or purpose in making the rest of the phone so thin but then having this giant wort sticking out the back. Not to mention they are just begging for Bendgate 2.0 (or whatever version we are on now).

They'd just add a camera bump to the already thicker phone the next year.

Still waiting for the day they’ll reintroduce a normal size phone without camera bump.

I'm OK with camera bumps as long as, like the iPhone X and 16E, they can be completely ameliorated with a normal case. The current camera bumps are just obscene. I know a lot of people want the best cameras they can get in a smartphone, but that's not me. I'm fine with a "business class" camera in my phone.

Oh, that big camera bulge sticking out your jeans pocket. Maybe it will be something nice to fiddle with as you’re waiting at the doctors surgery. Like a fidget bulge.
No issue for the majority of people who case their phones. I also doubt people who attach snap grips or wallet cases to their phones will care.

This Air will need something else other then thinness to justify it over the standard iPhone Plus model. Will be interesting to see what features it has. I could be interested in it if it is light enough and offered decent features.

IPhone 5, 5S and SE1 was and still is the best design they have done!
My only phone for the last year has been an SE1. I can still do everything I need with it. I hope by the time that will no longer be possible due to app updates that leave behind iOS 15, Apple will offer the same with modern internals.
I have an iPad mini at home and the two cover my every need.

I just want to know the tech specs and weather or not it will have MagSafe or what genius 🤯🧐 alternative they will have. Because it’s extremely thin they may have to use Qi2 wireless charging without MagSafe, what Android’s use today. Or like some rumors have been saying No MagSafe at all like the 16e. 🧲☹️

Defeats the whole purpose of being an “air” model with that thick of a camera bump sticking out.

The whole purpose? It doesn't defeat it at all.

I'm looking for a thinner iPhone that fits better in the pocket of the kind of shirts I like to wear. An iPhone 17 Air will certainly do that with the bump being above the top of the pocket.

It'll be a lot easier to put in and take out of the pocket. And be much lighter - a bonus.

To paraphrase Kate Moss, nothing sells as well as skinny looks...;)
