I mean with these massive camera bumps, we should have Leica/Hassleblad or etc sensors.
Funny you should say that since Sony makes sensors for the iPhone as well as for Hasselblad and some Leica cameras. The sensor sizes are different though of course since the camera bumps on iPhones are minuscule compared to what is needed on actual dedicated cameras.

A leaker known as "Majin Bu" today shared an alleged image of a component for the rumored, ultra-thin "iPhone 17 Air" model.

iPhone-17-Air-Size-Feature.jpg

The blurry, pixelated image shows a pair of rear iPhone shells with a pill-shaped, raised camera bar along the top. On the left side of the bar, there is a circular cutout that appears to be for a single rear camera. On the right side of the bar, there appears to be an LED camera flash and a tiny microphone hole. The ultra-thin "iPhone 17 Air" is the only iPhone 17 model that is expected to have a single rear camera, so the shell could be for that device.

The fourth-generation iPhone SE is also expected to have a single rear camera, but an elongated camera ridge has not been rumored for that device.

In the world of AI-generated photos, and counterfeit iPhones, we do not know if this image shows the actual "iPhone 17 Air." Sometimes leaks like these end up being real, but in many cases they end up being fake. Skepticism is warranted.

Majin Bu accurately revealed the "Desert Titanium" color name for iPhone 16 Pro models seven months before the devices launched, but some of his information has been wrong, including a rumor about an iPad 11 being imminent in 2023.

An elongated camera bump has been rumored for both the "iPhone 17 Air" and iPhone 17 Pro models, so perhaps this alleged design change will be coming to the entire iPhone 17 lineup. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 17, the "iPhone 17 Air," the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max in September.

There are already some Android phones with a camera bar, such as Google's Pixel 9.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the "iPhone 17 Air" will measure just 5.5mm at its thinnest point, which would make it the thinnest iPhone ever. Apple does not include the rear camera bump in its iPhone dimensions.

Due to its ultra-thin design, the "iPhone 17 Air" is expected to have limited specs, including only a single rear camera, a single speaker, no SIM card slot worldwide, and an A19 chip instead of the more powerful A19 Pro chip. Of course, the device will also be equipped with a smaller battery than other iPhone 17 models due to size constraints.

Other rumored features include a 6.6-inch OLED display with a Dynamic Island, Face ID, 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence support, and more.

Does mean Vertical video is the new standard for spatial video?

Why would the cameras be horizontal at the top. I don’t think spatial photography and video would work with that. If this is already been discussed, my apologies.

Well if this is correct, how about the center of gravity when you hold it? I mean if it will be so light and thin at the bottom.

IF this is a legitimate photo, I would believe that the “camera bar” is so large to help with rigidity due to the phones rumored thinness. I am though, confused, due to the fact that the non “Air” iPhone 17, is ALSO rumored to have an “oval shaped camera bar” BUT have multiple cameras. How would those fit if the iPhone “Air” only has a SINGLE camera?

This is either not legitimate or in fact, the iPhone “Air” IS the iPhone 17. And IF this is the iPhone 17, what happened to the multiple cameras? 🧐🤔

In case it’s not obvious, these are two different sizes. So it’s not just the iPhone Air. I’m not generally against the bar design, but these look quite ugly.
Very plausible that the “iPhone 17” is in fact the “iPhone Air”. Considering that the “iPhone 17”, too, is rumored to also have a “oval shaped camera bar at the top”. The question is, why is there only a single camera, where are the other cameras?

But the photo only shows a hole for a single camera. So is Apple reducing the amount of cameras on the “iPhone 17” to just one? Also, how would the “iPhone 17” have multiple cameras, how would they fit without reducing the size of the cameras?

This is the first update to the iPhones rear for 7 years and it’s MUCH needed.

They’ve coasted for years because they always assumed sheep will buy, but China sales and Europeans not caring about the limp AI have forced their hands.

They’ve been disgraceful for years under Jeff Williams the bean counter who doesn’t have an ounce of design knowledge, lazy reused designs and limited features.

He should walk because he’s stagnated the iPhone, while Tim the ego has stagnated the software by pulling people from iOS to work on his vanity project that FLOPPED.

I think they said Air would have once lens only. For me this alone is no go as I use all lenses.

I hate how much that makes sense:

They'll promote it as "thinnest iPhone ever" because that's what the middle and lower parts of the chassis/body will actually be.

But then to get all the front-facing cameras and Face ID components and rear-facing cameras to fit this "thinnest ever iPhone", the measurements on the top part be just as thick or thicker than on any previous iPhone.

"Thinnest iPhone ever. Thickest iPhone camera bump ever. iPhone 17 Air."

Oh, I hate this idea. Hate it, hate it, hate it. 🥲
If you consider that, how would the rumored “oval shaped camera bar” on the “iPhone 17” and “iPhone 17 Pro’s” fit more than one camera? Either this photo isn’t legitimate, the rumor of an “oval shaped camera bar” on the “iPhone 17’s” isn’t legitimate or this is the “iPhone 17” and Apple reduced the cameras to only one. IF this IS in fact, the “iPhone 17” how would multiple cameras fit on the “iPhone 17 Pros”?

But the rumors are that the “iPhone 17” and “iPhone 17 Pro” will feature a “oval or rectangular shaped camera bar”.

I’m starting to think the yearly releases aren’t cutting it anymore. The magic is gone. They’ve lost their luster. Perhaps Apple should change their strategy and change to a 2-3 year release cycle. They need to innovate and their most important product has grown stale over the years. I used to be so excited for the new iPhone to come out that I would upgrade every year. Those days are gone now. The 16 brought absolutely nothing of value to the table and now the 17 is looking to follow suit.

I yearn for the days of Jony Ive and Scott Forstall.

That is the ugliest phone I have ever seen in my entire existence on this planet... And I was saving up to buy an iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max.

I will not be buying THAT monstrosity.

I DON'T WANT A THIN PHONE!!!!!! I want battery life, attractive design, functionality, and good cameras, a phone should get thicker to fit a bigger battery, improve phone strength, and to reduce the size of the camera bump.

I want more Ram. More Ram, more battery, not less phone! Not an uglier chunkier 'thin' phone.

And to those calling this a Google Pixel 9 look-a-like or other such Google phone, those Google phones look 100x better than this photographed steaming garbage with a huge submarine periscope sticking out the top of it; they took the periscope design far too far! That camera bump looks like the nose of a whale named Pearl Krabs.

I'm not going to say it's ugly, because I love the Pixel... but I'm going to say that if this is real, I see Apple a little lost, it's always been the one that "made fashion" on phones some design feature. The square designs (iPhone 4), the beveled corners (iPhone 5), the rounded design (iPhone 6), the upright cameras (iPhone X), the three triangle or row-shaped lenses (iPhone 11) and, again, the square design (iPhone 12).

The iPhone behind has been the same since 2019, changing only the curved chassis to a straight one and now a straight one but with rounded bezels... SI after 6 years, the biggest novelty in terms of design is going to be putting the Pixel cameras... I find it disappointing.

The design of the Pixel is excellent and I think it is one of the most beautiful smartphones on the market, but just as I criticized brands for copying the iPhone, if Apple is going to do the same with Google, it also seems criticizable, especially when Apple has always been a reference in terms of "design."

But little by little, I see less innovation and less care in the details, both in the software and in the hardware...
