i'd be genuinely impressed if they manage to hold pricing at those levels; especially in other markets.

Outside the US, the greenback has slid 5-10% against all major currencies since the start of the year.
So they're actually due to lower prices in £, €, ¥, etc like they had done in previous years where currencies fluctuated a lot.

E.g. the launch price of the 14 pro was £1099 and the 15 pro was £999 because the pound strengthened against the USD that year.

If they opt to keep pricing the same world over, then they've effectively enacted a price increase on most other markets, and a price decrease for the US market. Be interesting to see!

I'm due for a new phone...I'm thinking I might snag a 16 pro after these drop. I'm about to start traveling to do some video and on some trips wont take my full setup of camera and lenses. Can't see the 17pro giving anything the 16 pro wont
Refresh my memory - will the 16 Pro be unavailable immediately upon announcement of the 17 line? I can’t remember at what point in the new release process that it will disappear from Apple’s website.

Usually immediately from apple themselves, it'll take some time for it to drain from retailers and supply lines.

Not much impact from the tariffs then. If it becomes evident that apple is spreading the costs of the tariffs to other countries, then I'll surely boycott and greatly increase my buying cycle.

Of course there isn’t an impact from tariffs… Trump exempted smartphones, computers and semiconductors from them entirely last month citing promises of investment from several firms to invest in US manufacturing (same thing they did last time around and didn’t follow through on). They all played the lip service game.

Pretty much what I expected. I’m curious how it will affect Canadian prices since right now it’s quite out of whack. According to Apple’s calculator currency conversion 999USD is 1376CAD but Apple currently charges $1449 CAD so hopefully the price only goes up by $50 in CAD since 1099USD is $1513CAD but it will likely increase $100CAD to account for currency fluctuations over the next year.
Apple has always added something on top of the exchange rate for us. Often about $100 or so.

If it goes up $100 usd for the Americans, it's likely to go up at least $150 in Canada. Unless that US price increase is tariff related, in which case, ours might remain the same.

Just one week before Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series, an analyst has shared new price estimates for the devices.

iPhone-17-Pro-Iridescent-Feature-2.jpg

Here are J.P. Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee's price estimates for the iPhone 17 series in the United States, according to 9to5Mac:

ModelStarting PriceModelStarting PriceChange
iPhone 16$799iPhone 17$799
iPhone 16 Plus$899iPhone 17 Air$899-$949$0 to +$50
iPhone 16 Pro$999iPhone 17 Pro$1,099+$100
iPhone 16 Pro Max$1,199iPhone 17 Pro Max$1,199

If these estimates prove to be accurate, the iPhone 17 Pro's starting price would increase by $100 compared to the iPhone 16 Pro. However, previous rumors have indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro will start with 256GB of storage, whereas the iPhone 16 Pro starts at 128GB. So, the starting price would only be increasing because of Apple eliminating a SKU. Still, it would break an 8-year streak of the Pro model or equivalent starting at $999.

The good news is that the standard iPhone 17 and the highest-end iPhone 17 Pro Max will avoid price increases, if these estimates prove to be accurate.

The all-new iPhone 17 Air's starting price might be $50 higher compared to the iPhone 16 Plus.

Apple has largely managed to avoid raising iPhone prices in the U.S. for a long time now, despite rumors of price increases year after year. So, on one hand, the company deserves the benefit of the doubt currently. On the other hand, nothing lasts forever. We will find out the real prices during Apple's event on Tuesday, September 9.

I find it hard to believe the max wouldn't change in price. I wouldn't mind the price going up to $1299 and the storage being 512gb.

Wow! The model 16 iPhones year is almost over since initial release and most of the promised features for my iPhone 16Pro Max 1TB are still MIA. Probably will never see them as it was all a fabrication at the dog and pony show.

I will probably watch the dog and pony show for the iPhone 17 series at some time, but do not expect half the claims of new stuff will be operational even at the end often year just like on my model.

Apple will not even miss my nearly $2,000 complete price with Apple Care and sales taxes, but how many folks like me are passing this year and the next etc??? Perhaps if millions decide to pass on the 17s as 12GB of memory is still not enough for Apple AI and wait for the 18s with rumored 16GB of memory like in the other Apple products for AI, that might be something to consider.

I certainly would let the early adopters report on the thin model for many months or even until next year to see how it actually works for the users and the problems that arise.

Good luck early buyers! You may need it.

We'll see.

The likely feel they have room to raise them a bit, but I feel they'd have a better case if Apple AI had turned into something. Right now they are likely to have another launch with forward looking value. That's a harder case to make with a price increase sitting in front of the buyer.

I upgraded from the iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 16 Pro due to the promises made about Apple Intelligence. I feel like all I really got was a camera button. I don't use the rewriting feature as it's better to use ChatGPT. Same with the search function as Siri seems to get in the way of ChatGPT. I don't use the Playground feature as it's not really functional (especially now that we have Nano Banana). The iPhone 17 Pro has nothing to offer until Apple Intelligence is rolled out, in my opinion. You'll just pay $100 more for an aluminum phone.

Extra 100$ for a better zoom and better performances only. Thanks Apple !
Remember, there are a lot of reports that only the 17 Pro Max will get better zoom. The 17 Pro may get left behind with old camera tech. In which case it’s a mild spec bump and a new color. Yay.

Someone needs to visit Specsavers 🙄🤦‍♂️

We literally know everything about the new iPhones.

That was incorrectly worded my side. What I meant was that we’ve not had many recent leaks regarding the hardware, colours, unusual features, etc. Yes 12GB memory was rumoured, and certain colours, but that was a while ago. I would have been expecting detailed confirmation rumours by now or perhaps pictures of the box, iPhone itself, marketing slides, etc.

Looks like there is going to be only a small increase. Will be most happy if 17 Pro Max sees no price hike! Planning to get one.

I'm being slowly pushed into an upgrade. Even though my X works perfectly well, 1 app I want to use and another I'd like to use are no longer supported on iOS16, and I cant upgrade my Apple watch because I need iOS 17.
That's brutal. Even my banking app still supports iOS 15

Heard the same thing last year and the year before that and the year before that.

Then the price didn't go up.

Maybe it goes up this year finally, but I'm not sure yet.
