Apple's iPhone 17 lineup is selling well enough that Apple is on track to ship more than 247.4 million total iPhones in 2025, according to a new report from IDC.

Total 2025 shipments are forecast to grow 6.1 percent year over year due to iPhone 17 demand and increased sales in China, a major market for Apple.

Overall worldwide smartphone shipments across Android and iOS are forecast to grow 1.5 percent, primarily because of the success of the iPhone.
In China, Apple's largest market, massive demand for iPhone 17 has significantly accelerated Apple's performance. It ranked first in October and November per IDC's China Monthly Sales data with more than 20% share, miles ahead of the competition, leading IDC to revise Apple's Q4 forecast in China from 9% to 17% YoY. This turns a previously projected 1% decline in China for 2025 into a positive 3% growth, that's a phenomenal turnaround. The success story is replicated across all regions, including the US and Western Europe that had previously slowed down. This calendar year will not only be a record period for Apple in terms of shipments but also in value, which is forecast to exceed $261 billion, with 7.2% YoY growth in 2025.
Back in October, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple is expecting to set a new all-time revenue record in the December quarter, and a best-ever revenue record for the iPhone. Apple believes overall revenue will grow 10 to 12 percent year-over-year.

Apple has seen strong interest in the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro models, even though the iPhone Air hasn't performed as expected.

Next year, Apple plans to change its iPhone release timelines. The high-end iPhone Fold and the iPhone 18 Pro models will come out in September 2026 as usual, but the lower-priced iPhone 18 will be held until spring 2027.

IDC predicts that the decision will drop iOS shipments by 4.2 percent in 2026, while a global memory shortage will lead to supply constraints and price increases across the smartphone market. Total global smartphone shipments could decline 0.9 percent in 2026 due to the supply issues and Apple's lineup changes.

iPhone 17 is the best base model iPhone but the software/firmware which is iOS 26.x sucks. Even if my iPhone 11 Pro Max can upgrade to iOS 26.x I'll keep it on iOS 18.7 until either I get a new iPhone or an app requires a newer iOS version.

Who would have guessed? 256GB storage, ProMotion, 6.3-inch display, no price increase. Basically almost everything the Pro model comes with. Of course the base iPhone 17 is the leader.

The reason why iPhone 17 Plus doesn't exist is because it would threaten 17 Pro Max. The Air only exists as an attempt to raise ASPs by offering less features for $999, not because there's hidden demand for thin phones.

The standard 17 is the best value to feature set PERIOD. It’s 90% a pro phone as it stands right now. $300 for an extra lens and an hour more battery is pretty ridiculous now. Otherwise the 17 and the 17 pro are identical in every respect. And the regular 17 is much lighter in the pocket!

I think anyone who uses a mini is either under 25 or a masochist.
I have a 13 mini and have used it since 2022. Let me just say I'm am becoming less and less thrilled by it. 6.1 is kinda big. 5.4 is kinda small. Really just wish they made a 5.8 still. That was perfect.

I don’t understand the hate for iOS 26. My 17PM has been flawless and I’ve experienced no bugs in my daily use since launch. Granted, I don’t use the native Apple mail app or iCloud Photos, I use Google apps for those.

I daily the iPhone and came from a Z Fold 7 and also use an Oppo Find X9 Pro. The grass ain’t greener on the other side, OneUI is just as good as iOS. The Chinese copycats all want to be iOS.

The 17 series are great devices, and I’ve had every iPhone since the iPhone 4. Not glazing Apple, there’s a lot I hate about the company, but not sure what some people expect out of their devices.

There’s nothing revolutionary in any of the iPhone 17 models. It’s business as usual with another incremental iPhone update.
What may be driving the increased sales is simply … it’s time for a lot of people to get newer devices (because planned obsolescence is built into the OS).

I've kept my 11 Pro Max on 16.7.2...

Here you go; screenshot from yesterday: 26.1, and this bug is in every messages chat after just a few back-and-forths. A reboot fixes it, for about 10 messages. Annoying as hell! 😩

Makes sense because the line-up is just great this year. Regular 17 is the best „base“ iPhone ever and the Pro/Max is just a beast. Even the Air will have nudged total revenue up a little because its fans would probably have gotten the base 17 instead (or no new phone at all).

Every year, Apple drops models from support. The difference this year is Apple gave the base model almost everything the Pro model has without raising the price.
