Here is the outer screen compared to a regular (6.1”) iPhone, based on the leaked screen resolutions:

And here compared to the 16 Pro Max (6.9”):

So while it’s easier to reach the top, it’s virtually impossible to reach across with your thumb.

… am I holding my phone wrong? Currently on my 6.1” 15 Pro, my thumb can easily reach nearly an inch past the vertical bezels of the phone — which you described as “virtually impossible”. Meanwhile, I basically need two hands (or need to completely reposition the phone in my hand) to access Control Center or Notification Center from the top of the screen.

I dunno… Everything about the Fold’s aspect ratio and screen size seem more hand-friendly to me than any iPhone larger than the Mini models.

Maybe you have large hands. I can barely reach beyond the width of an iPhone mini. It was one of the reasons I replaced my iPhone 6 with the OG SE.

Also, remember this iPhone ad?

I hope it will be, in terms of height, but I don’t expect to be able to operate UI controls on the horizontally opposite edge of the screen, or to swipe in from that edge.

There are around a dozen or more new battery technologies (ask ChatGPT or similar). Had Apple ever bothered to push this area, we would have products today.
Apple isn’t a battery manufacturer. Just like for SoC node advancements, display panel technology and the like, they depend on the actual experts in those industries.

Nah, in all honesty, I don’t think the mini is coming back, sadly. They will keep the e series around with the 6.1” form factor as the “compact” option, which will eventually inherit the iPhone 15/16 form factor. But I don’t think we’ll see anything below 6.1” anymore. I would be happy even with just a 6” iPhone, but that’s highly unlikely.

Assuming the 5.8" mini dont have special screen design issues and I dont think modern Apple cares about it anyway. My guess is that 6.1" will stay for 2 - 3 years. The 5.8" not being sold well will be the perfect entry level phone. Just there as the price ladder filler at $499.

It is only there to push people to buy the $599 6.3" Entry level phone. Inflation adjusted they will need to raise the price for iPhone.

Apple rounds 6.27 to 6.3 inches and 6.86 to 6.9 inches, so basically, we're going to get an iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro that are 6.3 inches, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max at 6.9 inches.

Anyone else remembers the first gen iPad Mini at 7,85"? :)
