Apple's iPhone 17 models are its most popular iPhones to date, Apple CFO Kevan Parekh told the Financial Times. Both Parekh and Apple CEO Tim Cook attributed Apple's stellar Q2 2026 performance to iPhone sales.

"The iPhone 17 family is now the most popular line-up in our history... we believe we gained market share during the quarter," said Parekh. Cook told Reuters that iPhone demand was "off the charts," and that supply was constrained despite the impressive sales.

"And there's just a little less flexibility in the supply chain at the moment for getting more parts," Cook said. Apple's iPhone sales were held back by the A19 and A19 Pro chips that it gets from TSMC, as TSMC also manufactures AI chips.

Parekh said that memory had an "increasing impact" between the first and second quarters of 2026.

Issues with chip supply and increasing problems acquiring RAM could potentially have an impact on the iPhone 18 lineup that Apple is expected to introduce this September. The lineup will include Apple's first foldable iPhone.

The current iPhone 17 family includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17e, and iPhone Air.

Make up your mind.

The iPhone Ultra will not be considered part of the iPhone 18 iPhone lineup, despite arriving alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This would be just like how the iPhone Air is not considered to be part of the iPhone 17 series. Although Apple is hoping to ship the iPhone Ultra alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, it may launch a few weeks later and with scarcer availability.

If you look at battery compliance documents, it's clear Apple made a last minute change to remove "17" from Air.

Makes sense as it was a gamble - if Air failed, it wouldn't bring down the rest of the family in terms of PR. Looks like Apple made the right decision.

It’s my most desired iPhone in years. I’m just hoping they don’t screw up the 18 because that’s when I can upgrade again.

I feel like the 17 Pro Max is the first time they listened to people on my side of the aisle, which is make the phone a little thicker and give fantastic battery life. This is what we want and the iPhone 17 lineup delivers it in spades.

That's kind of sad in terms of pushing innovations but a good day for shareholders I suppose

What is sad? The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 pro are the best phones base on that article and the most popular phones.

Apple clearly did some to attract people to that phone.

I think its also because Air is going to be its own lineup, at least for the next version, iPhone Air 2, vs iPhone 18 Aire

I WANTED the Air so badly. I bought my father one for his birthday and it is such a fantastic design. I even forgave the battery pack. However the audio and camera quality was too much to ignore. I like my orange 17 pro max but it’s a damn unit. People can hate on the Air all they want, that phone is fantastic to hold.

Yes but it means Apple can do hardly anything and people still buy it. Give me a 7000 silicon carbon battery, 100w charging, 10x optical zoom already

The Air is based on 17 technology, i.e. display, processor, camera, etc. So, it doesn't make much sense to spin the Air off.

Apple didn't spin off the Pro/Max on its own, so why the Air? The only logical reason is risk mitigation. If the Air fails, it doesn't make bad press for the rest of the lineup.

If Apple added 2 or 2.5x lens instead of 0.5x on iphone 17, it would have been a perfect phone for most.

No thanks. You can always zoom in digitally. It might not be as clear, but it's still there. Without 0.5x, you can't take wide shots at all, not even blurry ones. Not to mention macro. The 0.5x lens is more useful and most smartphone manufacturers and users agree.

The regular 17 was a perfect upgrade coming off an XS. Everything is better, most of all the cellular and wifi. Base storage is huge (for me) and the 120Hz took me by surprise by how much I appreciate it. Battery lasts me two to three days. And flat sides like my beloved 5s!

I take this as vindication that people do in fact care about 120Hz displays, despite being told every time I mentioned it by someone in the comments that nobody cares.

Quick edit: I'll grant that buyers of the 17e likely in fact do not care.
