Why do people care so much about others “hating” something. Get what you like and move on. No one’s opinion on the product you have or like should matter

That’s true. Other people’s opinions shouldn’t matter as much as one owns.
But times have changed, you can’t always chose your opinion independently, you hear this, you see that. People share their „opinions“, based on emotions, beliefs and brand affirmations.
These days, thanks do social media, opinions are shared more often than made.

I tend to upgrade in 3 - 5 year cycles once a phone changes it design it compels me to get it. Also the features at this time is pretty much a 50% increase over my older phone.

Although I agree that Apple has lost its wow since the X. For me the next X moment will be when Apple gets rid of the dynamic island in the iphone 22.

As it would be a innovation long overdue, i think Apple focuses too much on the little things like cameras, ease of use buttons, and performance

But the Average consumer like myself is wowed when there is something new in innovation and design.

There is technology to get rid of dynamic island entirely, the question is what is the point in that? Just so you could get those few extra pixels in very rare cases you may need them? Personally I think this year’s Air is already bigger innovation than that.

Why? Considering even Google has made them for what, 5 years now, I don’t see how Apple doesn’t see the vision
And how many do they sell? Not many.
They can't even sell the regular Pixels and are already offering promotions and crazy trade in prices for people with iPhones.

Until the screens are better quality and last longer, rather than being plastic - they'll never be mainstream.

I didn’t say anything about built quality or sales figures did I?Just that the competition is already far ahead of Apple.

Define "ahead"...
If they aren't selling, and the build quality isn't as good - they're far from ahead.

Maybe folding phones isn't a route Apple see as a lasting market to invest heavily in? I'd trust the direction of Apple over Google who are famous for making something and then dropping it like a hot potato or Samsung who simply throw mud at the wall and hope something sticks.

What do you mean „isn’t as good“? From a durability standpoint recent foldables are very similar.
However you’re right, Apples approach is a lot better and, frankly, honest and focused.

Just as in build quality screen wise - I don't think the technology is there for Apple to go with the non-glass displays, so either they're waiting for that to improve or trying to come up with some other way to make it durable.

I'm getting the vanilla iPhone 17 on Friday. It was a no-brainer for me. I'm still shocked it got the same great screen as the Pro.

I'm getting the folding iPhone next year. It will be great to use the vanilla iPhone 17 for a year.

What’s up with all the hate?
Maybe not here, but social media is running its mouth.

I think this was one of the better years since the iPhone 13.

The regular iPhone is basically a Pro with upgraded storage at last years iPhone 16 price.

It has a
- „tripple“ 48MP camera system
- thin bezels with a slightly bigger screen
- ProMotion, finally
- an always on display
- 3000 nit max brightness (from 2000)
- new Ceramic Shield
- a new SoC as powerful as the M1
- considerably better battery life
- 18MP front camera with Center Stage and so on
- while being lighter than last years Pro and its available in more colors than the Pro was

AND CHEAPER
and the dual camera system looks better than the triple one IMO

If I was in the market for a new iPhone, this would be THE year.
Even the Pro is tempting.

What do you think about these years iPhones so far?
Reviews and first impressions are not really here yet, but judging by the keynote, is this year any good for you?

I’m calling it, this year will be considered one of the best in the future.
Together with the 13 and 11 years.
The phone is cataclysmic!!!

I was kinda torn between 17 and Air to replace the SE3 and I eventually decided on the 17.

I bought a thin Air case from Amazon to get an idea of feel in hand and it’s just a tad too big for my liking.

Yeah, I have no desire to ever use a big slab iPhone ever again.

Lol, I use an iPad mini daily which is an even bigger slab. It’s mostly replaced my phone for most mobile tasks (except camera and CGM).

What I don’t like with the iPhone Plus/Pro Max is the screen is still too small while being very unwieldy if using one-handed. From trying out the case, the Air seems like it’s going to be just as unwieldy for me.

I never use my iPhone with one hand. (Unless I absolutely must, like the rare subway ride.)

The Pro Max size is great to type on but too unwieldy in general for me. The folding iPhone will solve this by being short and wide when closed.
