I, too, use the oldest, lowest wattage genuine Apple USB A charger I can find to charge my 15 pro each night. Less heat, less stress on battery, I can't see a reason to do it any other way!

If that's the camera layout they're going for this year, that is so ugly.

But hey, you get to charge your ugly phone faster.
Apparently you don’t even get to charge this monstrosity faster as the charging speed is comparable to the current iPhones according to rumours (which in turn is much slower than other flagship phones from other companies).

The current layout is optimized right down to the placement of the flash, mic and LiDAR and this awful render totally messes it up.
This. The placement is, well, out of place. Just holding the phone in landscape mode will be a nightmare with this configuration.

Battery tech has improved massively since we had Apple laptops with 300 charge cycles to 80 percent capacity. It’s now 1000 cycles

But charging slow will always put less strain on a battery. But the way tech is going the iPhone will be out of support by the time the average consumer runs the battery so far down that it’s no longer useful. Even a phone with 80 percent battery health can run well with the software and hardware mitigations in place to deal with a degraded battery.

The way things have been going lately, if Jon Prosser said it, it isn’t true
Look at that camera layout, that’s ridiculous. The current layout is optimized right down to the placement of the flash, mic and LiDAR and this awful render totally messes it up.
Wait wut? The flash close to the lens is the worst possible placement. Why do you think pros pay a hefty price--in money and effort--for an off camera flash?

Why still keep using pictures of Android phones in an iPhone article? That’s so unprofessional. Honestly, even by Android standards, this phone is ridiculously ugly—shocking lack of taste, but I'm sure Tim will sprinkle a little bit of his magic.

it's been months and still no 25W MagSafe stands, 2/3-in-1 charging stations. no 25W MagSafe battery packs either.

Doesn't faster charging equate to more heat being produced during charging? I know LiIon batteries don't like heat, so I'm a bit reluctant to faster charging if it will shorten overall battery life.

They need to up this significantly. Faster charging is really one of very few things I would want out of a new iPhone. 2TB capacity being another.

I’m good with my 5w charger lol.
yep I'm not fast charging unless I need to. Why would you want to wear the battery out faster if you don't need to? My iPhone is on the 80% limit because it lasts me until bed time where I put it on the 5w charger. I get a decent rate charge in my car if I'm going anywhere after work, could fast charge at peak rates at work via laptop chargers if I have to, and have chargers from 5w to 96w at home.

I think honestly the only time I ever use more than 5w is if I forget to plug in before I fell asleep, or if I'm on vacation I'll bring a separate fast charger for a quick blast if I'm out all day using my camera shooting video and maps while walking at full screen brightness etc and need to go back out in less than an hour

My mum heard a rumour that Apple Stores have a special charger than can charge your iPhone to 100% in two seconds.

Current models cannot sustain the 35W charging. Hopefully that will change. The MagSafe charger from Apple can charge at around 25W. So able to charge at around 30W with a wire will be great.

I could foresee arguably paying for a 4TB iPhone….hear me out. I pay…400-500$ for an external USB-C SSD drive to use for backup and as second drive to my computer. Why have two devices? Arguably there’s good reason to have two devices…but not always

On the other hand, it balances out the phone. At the moment, if it is on the desk next to me and I need to look something up, it clatters all the time and wobbles from side to side, making it difficult to use. Having the it stretched out across the whole width makes it usable on a flat surface.

Those hoping for significantly faster wired charging speeds with the iPhone 17 lineup this year might be disappointed, if the latest rumor is true.

In a note with investment firm GF Securities, obtained by MacRumors this week, Apple supply chain analyst Jeff Pu said the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will all support up to 35W wired charging speeds.

Last year, ChargerLAB found that the iPhone 16 Pro models achieved maximum sustained charging speeds of around 30W. In one image, the website showed the iPhone 16 Pro Max reaching a peak charging speed of 37W with Apple's 140W USB-C power adapter, but it is unclear how long the device kept charging at that speed.

PhoneArena saw similar results with the standard iPhone 16. In its review last year, it said that device reached a peak charging speed of 38W when it was "under extremely heavy loads such as benchmark testing or playing games." The website said the iPhone 16 achieved a sustained charging speed of closer to 20W.

All in all, with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models already reaching peak wired charging speeds in the 35W range, it sounds like there will be no significant improvement to wired charging speeds with any of the iPhone 17 models.

Pu did not reveal wireless MagSafe charging speeds for any iPhone 17 models. iPhone 16 models can charge at up to 25W with MagSafe.

All I know is that all this fast and wireless charging has made my iPhone 15 Pro's battery health drop quite fast. 10% between launch day and today.

With my Apple Watch Series 10, I went back to the old charging cables with USB-A and I only keep fast charging for when I really need it, and this is the only advice I can give to people. I'm not for putting a charging limit on it because I sometimes need the full 100% capacity and I don't want to be thinking about my phone's battery all the time, but using a normal USB-A charger doesn't require thinking about all the time.
It's your Cycle count, you've basically used up half of your battery's 1000 cycle count and you charge to 100%. The watch battery doesn't give you cycle counts (my series 9ss is still on 100%), but I suspect it has far less charges and you're comparing a 5 months old devise with a 17 month old devise.
My 15 Pro has always been charged on a Belkin Apple approved MagSafe charger (15 watts) up until iOS 18 it was set to a maximum of 80% since then it's 85% and I've still got 98% battery health, which is still not as good as my 13 Pro, which at this stage had 100% battery health, but then again the 15 Pro battery is not quite as good as the 13 Pro's.
It's the cycle count that matters mostly, but also Apple didn't give us the maximum charging % just for fun, for years, people in the know have said that charging up to 80% is best for your battery's.
My partner has a similar profile of usage & cycle count as you, on her 15 Pro Max and surprise, surprise, she's on about 90% battery health as well 🤣

This is great if true but Qi2 seems to have killed Apple's MFi program. To my knowledge, third parties have not announced any iPhone stands that support 25 watts. I can't blame these companies for thinking that Qi2 is good enough and serves the entire market. Apple should sell its own stand. Apple's 25 watt puck subverts Apple's goal of its customers owning several Apple products, including AirPods and the Watch.
First of all, like USB-C Apple gave the QI 2 tech to the industry.
Secondly, the reason no third party has announce 25w MagSafe Charging, is because QI 2 isn't capable of it, in a couple of years, Belkin will get it, in the mean time, if you want fast wireless charging, you can only get it through the new MagSafe charger, that's Apple's new MFI 🤣

I feel I'm becoming this grumpy anti-Apple gremlin. But I've paid 2000$, out of my own pocket for the a iPhone. I have a M1 12.9 iPad Pro..and I'm getting a MacBook Prod this sommer so...here goes.

Apple is 3 generations "behind" with their phone hw....from where they used to be at least. The 16 is for all purposes intent the same as the 14. But even the 16 is "stale" compared to the biggest Android competitors. 60hz? Slow charging? In 2025? The Pros not a pro anymore...it's just got one camera more.

Fine....I'll say it. There's nothing sexy about an iPhone anymore. Its a TupperWare box...it's sort of a Playmo car. It's becoming a generic store brand of a phone. It was always sexy. ALWAYS. Its always been its main selling point. It was cool. Its not anymore.

I used to love spending money on a phone....now it's like buying a....dishwasher.

And I'm not using AI against Apple..which was the most botched release of anything they've ever done. Not because it's bad, per se, but because how high they went during the theatre presentation. It's still not really here...and were getting into iphone 17 territory soon.

So....
So why are ALL the Android manufacturers copying Apple?
The standard 16 is twice as capable as the 14, in fact it's way too close to the Pro's!
Apple's A18 Pro, (6 months old) is still more powerful than the snapdragon 8 elite, in both single core and real world gaming, they've over clocked the 8 elise and gave it two more cores (for bench mark purposes, ie; SPIN), which over heat the phone a lot quicker in gaming then the A18 Pro!
Finally the 16 Pro, apart from the capture button, and the colour grading in the photo's has really nothing on the 15 Pro, which was a wow release as will the 17 pro be, you just upgraded at the wrong time.
