iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max models can be charged up to 50% in around 20 minutes with a compatible USB-C power adapter, according to Apple's website.

That means iPhone 17 models offer faster USB-C charging compared to iPhone 16 models, which can be charged up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a compatible adapter.

The ultra-thin iPhone Air has similar USB-C charging speeds as the iPhone 16 series.

One power adapter that supports the iPhone 17's faster wired charging capabilities is Apple's new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max. It is available to order starting today, with pricing set at $39 in the United States.

As its Dynamic Power name implies, this charger can dynamically deliver up to 60W of power, despite having a smaller form factor. However, due to the thermal limitations of its compact design, the charger can only reach that 60W peak in short bursts. A larger 60W-or-higher charger does not face that limitation.

Know that you do not need to use this specific new Apple power adapter to unlock the iPhone 17's faster charging — most higher-wattage chargers should do the trick.

Also, remember that Apple sells USB-C charging cables separately.

iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max models can be pre-ordered starting this Friday at 5 a.m. Pacific Time, and the devices launch on Friday, September 19.

LOL “Dynamic.”
Translation: Apple’s new charger supports USB-C PD, something 3rd party chargers from companies like Anker have offered since before COVID.

Apple's USB-C chargers have supported USB PD for a long time, too. All compliant USB-C chargers do. If they didn't then you couldn't charge at anything over baseline USB power levels of 7.5W.

Dynamic here just means it can output 60W max, but will throttle back to 40W continuous after a while to prevent overheating.

Too bad there doesn't seem to be a UK version of this adapter yet. Absolutely love my Apple 20W UK adapter (the one with the folding pins). Would LOVE to get a 40-60W one with a similar design!
First thing I checked too. Rude! A UK 40-60w in a charger this size would be really great. Obviously there are plenty of third parties that make 30-60w-ish chargers, but the quality of Apple's would make it an easy buy, especially if it isn't too much more than the regular 20w version.

Some of us prefer ‘slow charging’ (overnight) to maximize battery longevity by using Apple’s 5W charger:

Then you're in luck, there are an almost infinite number of differents chargers from different manufacturures that offer USB 2.0 5W charging.

If you look closely at the Power Adapter images, here's the specs.
5V - 3A
9V - 3A
(AVS) 9-15V - 2.67A (3A DPS)
(AVS) 15-20V - 2A (3A DPS)

I guess we'll have to see if Apple's AVS and DPS is just Standard USB PPS or if it's another Apple proprietary charging standard.

Nuts that we have to do CSI when every other manufacturer just posts those specs.

I’d love to see the Max power delivery when my phone arrives next Friday. I’ll report back…

I’ve seen 27-28w on my 16 pro max previously

I have the Anker 30w charger for my iPhone 16 Pro Max. It charges very fast. 20 minutes, 30 minutes no huge gap difference. Now if 50% in 10-15 then maybe I would upgrade the charger.

For the past 10 years I've fast charged my company phone everyday that gets refreshed every 3 years along with using super fast charge 2.0 on personal Samsung products. My coworkers and myself see no benefit to slow charging. It feels right but the software battery conditioning does enough
