Clever way to help make using this cheap charger annoying on a MacBook Pro.

I would assume its charing at 20V... so will any 20V usb-c charger work or did Apple put some magic in there that doesn't let you do this with other 100+ watt chargers?

For some reason specific embeds of this device show a version with no holes in the prongs.

This new charger is sadly not available in my country's Apple store. Don't know why Apple is limiting it's availability. Hopefully it will be available in the future.

Not available in France either. However, I bought Anker chargers for all the family years ago and very happy with them.

Good to hear about that. Apple should make it available everywhere. Might be available in my country later on as the press release on Apple Newsroom does mention its local pricing. Might be available after the new phones launch.

Some of us prefer ‘slow charging’ (overnight) to maximize battery longevity by using Apple’s 5W charger:

That would only make sense if the phone lasted a whole day (by using it, not keeping it in a pocket in flight mode), which it doesn't. Sadly most phones will need charging at some point during the day, and a 5W charger is way too slow for that purpose. Apple has always been particularly slow in delivering faster charging speeds, but to be fair Apple is quite behind in many areas nowadays so this is not surprising.

They should include USB-C cables and chargers by default since they are making us put all of our old Lightning cables and chargers in the landfill.
No one is making you do that. Also, charging with a higher powered charger is optional.

USB PD isn’t rated by voltage specifically, but by power (wattage).

Also, remember that Apple sells USB-C charging cables separately.

Right, just in case people don't already have 200+ USB C cables at home... It's very important to buy more Apple cable 🤓.

Curious to know: what are the physical dimensions of the new Apple 40W Dynamic Power Adapter? This information does not appear on the Apple webpage for the product.

The faster charging on the iPhone 17/17 Pro/17 Pro Max should work with any PD 3.0-compliant charger that offers 40 watts maximum charging speed. That means my old Anker 65 watt USB-C charger should allow this faster charging speed.

LOL “Dynamic.”
Translation: Apple’s new charger supports USB-C PD, something 3rd party chargers from companies like Anker have offered since before COVID.
Apple chargers have had PD for awhile as well. This "Dynamic" isn't the same thing, as I understand it. PD can lower power to prevent the device it's charging from overheating, but "Dynamic" does so to prevent the charger from overheating (there may be more technical nuance but I believe that's the gist). This allows for a more compact size charger while maximizing charging speed.

Don't put Lightning cables in the landfill. Donate them to the many many people still using Lightning (especially so that companies stop producing new Lightning cables), or recycle them.

Sure wish Apple made a folding 3 pin adapter or duckhead. The grounding pin helps with keeping the adapter stay in place in those loose airline AC outlets.
Downside is it won't fit in two hole outlets.

I actually keep a tiny roll of scotch tape in my bag for those loose outlets haha.

I was thinking making the power pins folding separately from the ground pin so the third pin can stay folded for use in two pin sockets.

I got a small 3 pin 3-way adapter to work around the looseness. That also works as a workaround for places where a polarized plug won't fit but works with three pin plugs
