Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 series in just five days from now, and last-minute rumors about the devices continue to surface.

The latest word comes from Taiwanese market research firm TrendForce, which outlined several alleged iPhone 17 details in a press release today:
  • As previously rumored, the standard iPhone 17 and the all-new iPhone 17 Air will allegedly be equipped with 120Hz displays, for smoother scrolling and content. The regular iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus have 60Hz displays, with a higher 120Hz refresh rate limited to the Pro models to date.
  • Due to its ultra-thin design, the iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with a "silicon anode battery," according to the report. A silicon battery would have higher energy density compared to the graphite batteries used in other iPhone models, so this likely refers to the "high-density" battery that Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said the device would have. Still, it was previously reported that the iPhone 17 Air would have "worse" battery life compared to other iPhone 17 models, and Apple may release an optional battery case for the device.
  • As widely expected, the iPhone 17 Air is said to rely entirely on eSIM technology, with no physical SIM card slot due to the device's ultra-thin design.
  • iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models will allegedly have "optimized software algorithms" to "enhance optical zoom" — perhaps the limit will increase from 5× on iPhone 16 Pro models to 8× or higher.
  • As previously rumored, Apple may adjust its release cycle going forward, with lower-end iPhone models to launch in the first half of the year, followed by higher-end models like the Air, Pro, Pro Max, and Fold in the second half of the year. This two-phase strategy is expected to begin next year, with the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone 18 Fold expected to launch in September 2026, followed by the lower-end iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models around March 2027.
TrendForce also shared potential iPhone 17 pricing and storage information, and RAM amounts.

TrendForce said at least some of the information that it shared today is based on "current market information and analyst projections."

Fortunately, rumors will be confirmed very soon, with Apple set to unveil the iPhone 17 series during its event on Tuesday, September 9.

Wait so if they split the cycle and you buy the lower end iPhone now, in 6 months it’ll be replaced by a newer, better one? Might as well wait.

It sounds like we are circling back to the original rumour: 3.5X/4X optical and 7X/8X cropped

That's what I'm betting on anyway. It seems more likely to me than a true optical telephoto zoom.

It’s a shockingly big update… still, I’ll hold off another year hoping the new battery makes it to the Pro line.

Still using an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Would have really liked to see the Fold this year. Gotta go another year with my 14PM.

I am looking forward to seeing what the Air offers. I haven’t decided if I’ll upgrade from my 15 Pro to the Air or the 17 Pro, or just stick with the 15P.

Yeah. The b*llshit is emerging.

Google is hyping this nonsense on its latest batch of Pixels, so it tracks.

That’s the optimistic take. Starting to look more like the same old tele camera without a sensor area increase (the part that interested me).

So what are the odds this will be the iPhone 26? At what point do they take a whole different route.. and not "The New" iPhone route

iPhone 17 Air makes no sense… thinner with less battery capacity. Most people want better battery life not thinness. Main reason I bought the 16 Pro Max last season was because of better battery life. I would have gotten a 16e because of its decent battery for the cost, but not having MagSafe was a deal breaker for me.

I, too, am waiting to see what the Air is gonna offer. If the camera is decent, I’m pretty sure this is gonna be perfect for me. I like that it’ll be sized between the pro/pro max, and super light. I’m definitely ready to lose the 15 PM brick.

I read the other article on how the new ProMax "Maxed out Edition" was supposed to be something like $1700. That's like a house payment, insane.

I love the devices and all the cool things you can do with them but maybe they're at the point where they start losing me with over the top prices.

I know, tariffs are part of the reason but still...

That makes no sense. When "you buy the lower end iPhone now" it already has a better one available. That is what happens when "you buy the lower end iPhone." The cycle for "the lower end iPhone" is still 12 months.

Plenty of people have no problem with the battery life of a regular (non-Max) iPhone, and would be happy to have something not as chunky. Since you're OK with the Max, which many people find to be way too big, then obviously it's not for you.

Just because something doesn't fit your own personal preferences doesn't mean it "makes no sense" to exist.

If that turns out to be true - I'll stick with my 13PM for another year.
I really don't need/want more SW to "enhance" my photos, SW is NEVER going to replace optical zoom, it's only an illusion.
IF the other rumor of 5/8x optical zoom turns out to be true - 17PM will be it for me.

I think you're right. Sounds like Apple will play mind games with "optimized software" to offset the loss in true optical zoom of the 48MP upgrade.
