I am looking forward to seeing what the Air offers. I haven’t decided if I’ll upgrade from my 15 Pro to the Air or the 17 Pro, or just stick with the 15P.
The air features a ***** battery and and a battery pack (not included), to make the phone even thicker…defeating the entire purpose of the thin design. But, it will cause people to need to upgrade sooner and so Tim is doing is job as Steward of Gondor and we should be so thankful he is our dear leader.

Think different.

It might do well for light users? I rarely hit even 2 hours/day of screen time so it would do fine in my case, and less weight would be appreciated. I'm not upgrading this year, though.

It really seems like a bad deal for heavy users.

I read the other article on how the new ProMax "Maxed out Edition" was supposed to be something like $1700. That's like a house payment, insane.

I love the devices and all the cool things you can do with them but maybe they're at the point where they start losing me with over the top prices.

I know, tariffs are part of the reason but still...

Phones were excluded from the tariffs. 🤷‍♂️

So if that picture is accurate, the phone is thinner, but it has a camera bump that has its own camera bump?

So really, the phone isn't thinner except for the part that holds the battery. Yeah, less battery, but still too big to fit in a pocket because they don't offer a mini.

If Apple made an iPhone mini that had a double capacity battery built right in, I'd buy it immediately.

My 16 PM can last me 3 days with my normal usage (although I normally charge it every other day), I will gladly take a battery hit to get a much lighter phone. All I need to do is plug it in while taking a shower in the morning every day instead of every other day, not a big hassle.

It sounds like we are circling back to the original rumour: 3.5X/4X optical and 7X/8X cropped

That's what I'm betting on anyway. It seems more likely to me than a true optical telephoto zoom.
That is what I was thinking too. And honestly, I want this more. I do NOT want 5x and 8x. I want 4x (or 3.5x) and 7 or 8x cropped. The gap between 2x and 5x is too large and needs to be corrected. I also don't want to deal with the inevitable first generation issues and durability concerns of a true optical telephoto zoom on a mobile camera.

porsche had experimented with „silicon anode battery“ for their e-sportscars because they have better power density and better power delivery. The problem was, that these cells expanded more than other cells.

Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 series in just five days from now, and last-minute rumors about the devices continue to surface.

iPhone-17-Pro-on-Desk-Centered-1.jpg

The latest word comes from Taiwanese market research firm TrendForce, which outlined several alleged iPhone 17 details in a press release today:
  • As previously rumored, the standard iPhone 17 and the all-new iPhone 17 Air will allegedly be equipped with 120Hz displays, for smoother scrolling and content. The regular iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus have 60Hz displays, with a higher 120Hz refresh rate limited to the Pro models to date.
  • Due to its ultra-thin design, the iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with a "silicon anode battery," according to the report. A silicon battery would have higher energy density compared to the graphite batteries used in other iPhone models, so this likely refers to the "high-density" battery that Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said the device would have. Still, it was previously reported that the iPhone 17 Air would have "worse" battery life compared to other iPhone 17 models, and Apple may release an optional battery case for the device.
  • As widely expected, the iPhone 17 Air is said to rely entirely on eSIM technology, with no physical SIM card slot due to the device's ultra-thin design.
  • iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models will allegedly have "optimized software algorithms" to "enhance optical zoom" — perhaps the limit will increase from 5× on iPhone 16 Pro models to 8× or higher.
  • As previously rumored, Apple may adjust its release cycle going forward, with lower-end iPhone models to launch in the first half of the year, followed by higher-end models like the Air, Pro, Pro Max, and Fold in the second half of the year. This two-phase strategy is expected to begin next year, with the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone 18 Fold expected to launch in September 2026, followed by the lower-end iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models around March 2027.
TrendForce also shared potential iPhone 17 pricing and storage information, and RAM amounts.

TrendForce said at least some of the information that it shared today is based on "current market information and analyst projections."

Fortunately, rumors will be confirmed very soon, with Apple set to unveil the iPhone 17 series during its event on Tuesday, September 9.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it looks similar to the brand "Nothing CMF" I have a couple of their watches as well. Very high resolution, long battery life, and just looks great. Has many features that Apple Watch does, and even connects to it. HOWEVER, I don't use any of the features, and I'm already exhausted from being accessible 24/7 and expected to text/email back within minutes to a client. Their top tier watch on Amazon is $79 I believe. It's version 3. Even version 2 is still great.

As far as their phones, I don't have any experience with them. Very interesting looking. I'm not sure what the cable is they charge with either, but I know the watch one pretty much sucks. But that really goes for all smart watches IMHO. But mine lasts at least 3 or 4 days on a charge. I also have a Suunto race, which is obviously more expensive, but I charged it I believe on Monday, and it's still at 74%. But again, I don't use alot of the features.

I can't recall why they don't use the roof for solar panels? I believe it was structural integrity? My buddy is a Nascar driver and he does this fun event called the 24 hour of Lemons race. Last year one of the prizes was $10k if you could build a car that could run on batteries only the entire time. We have a high IQ friend that designed some type of Alternator that connected to the rims and that's what would charge them. Something to that effect. I just wanted to load an ice cream truck with batteries lol. OH and yes you had a super cheap budget, so all the cars were super crappy. Good times! But alot of guy took it serious. Like full 18 wheeler semi trucks to tow their $!500 car lol. (again, something to that effect).

Looking at the Air with some interest. The mini I use now has a small battery but it lasts me fine, so as long as it has a similar runtime it could be good.

"The amazing new iPhone Air, with a battery that lasts ALL MORNING LONG"*

* "All Morning Long" claim assumes wakeup time of 9:15 a.m. and a lunch break beginning at 11:30

I really love this design, the hand would hide the flash when doing pictures so no more accicental flash in the teathre!!

just remember to keep your fingers out of the flash when you reallly need it!!!

3.5X / 4X makes for a better portrait focal length. 3.5X is around 85 mm (in 35 mm SLR terms) and 4X is around 95 mm. 5X would be over 120 mm which is quite long and can be kinda awkward to use for portraits.

iPhone 17 Air makes no sense… thinner with less battery capacity. Most people want better battery life not thinness. Main reason I bought the 16 Pro Max last season was because of better battery life. I would have gotten a 16e because of its decent battery for the cost, but not having MagSafe was a deal breaker for me.
If you ask a lot of the clowns that post on this site, they'll tell you they'd rather have a thinner phone and shorter battery life. Like really? Pretty sure a heavier phone with a bigger battery feels more premium.

Will be great if the zoom on the Pro models increase. 120Hz coming to the base model finally is great. Waiting to see the battery life on the slim iPhone.

I don't know most people, but a thinner device with acceptable-by-me sacrifices makes sense to me. I've got mag chargers in my car, home office … seldom do I need "all day" battery.

I have a MY2023 Ultra 2. I think there is nothing really compelling about the 3. I'll stand pat for a while. I've never upgraded an Apple Watch sooner than 3 yrs anyway. I'll wait for the 4. I've also gone from a 2 yr upgrade cycle on iPhone to 3 years. I'll wait for the 18 to upgrade my 15 Pro Max. :)

Honestly, I'd rather trade-in my 20204 Mac Mini M4 Pro to the Studio M4 Max, but Apple isn't offering a tradein for my Mini. No matter, I don't really 'need' a Studio.

Small and lightweight feels the most premium to me. Like the iPhone 5 / SE 2016 did. Big and heavy is just clunky.

Yup. And over time the batteries degrade anyway and you're charging more often. My 14Pro, which still feels heavy and clunky to me, won't last a day anymore. I welcome a lightweight phone that doesn't look like a brick in my pocket.

Well then, my clown act is going to really take off without that heavy phone in my oversized plaid pants pocket.
