Maybe the phones are all going to have a white back panel, hence why duplicating it on the case makes it appear “clear” with any of the color options.

A two tone look might look interesting and distinct. If it’s done right.

Nothing, its just to change the design so people will 'silently' judge those with old models. Right now you can't see a difference between iPhone 14Pro vs iPhone 16Pro. Now that we will have new back Apple will again 'force' those that are superficial to upgrade again and put the rest in the 'museum' :)

I cannot wait to see what is “hidden” behind the purpose of enlarging the camera bump like that!!!

yep it's hideous.
But people will learn to love it the way they learned to love that tumor on the back of the iphone11. Even when it kept growing... just like a tumor.

No, need to get people to upgrade.

Probably not. Just like before. Apple is green for the "environment" but even more green for $$.
If the new magsafe doesn't work with my currnet Magsafe wallets and chargers, this wil make me hesitate, or even prevent me from upgrading this year. Between the cost to upgrade the phone, and a new case, I'd have to pay to upgrade my chargers and wallets. I don't see anything in the rumor-mill for iphone 17 that is worth all that expense.

So a phone that's black, orange or blue and a clear case with a huge white rectangle on it. Nothing about that makes sense to me.

The big white area negates my reason for getting a black / space gray iphone. I want a dark phone for when I'm taking pictures through a window. It minimizes the reflection in the glass. I guess I'll have to look for a third party case to get one that's truly clear.

Thats the whole point that the phone drops and breaks. Service revenue is new buzz word in Cupertino!
Not so new! When I was fixing Macs in the late 1980s, we regularly got just-discontinued Apple Service binders from someone who did that sort of thing, and one of the sheets had a headline something to the effect of "Your repair department is your major source of revenue!" But that was when Macs contained parts that burned out a lot.

Would like to have a full clear case. This one if true, is going to hide most of the back portion of the device and hence can't see the majority of the colored area. Will definitely go with a third party case.

well in a sliver of hope, this is not official apple packaging. The font that is used to say 'clear case' is Myriad, a font that was fazed out in 2017. The current apple font i believe is SF Pro, and is on the 16 Pro packaging:

This means that this not-so-clear case is definitely not made by apple, but may be a replica. Either way, that is not an apple product.

Edit: In fact i believe all of the wording on this not-so-clear case product is in Myriad, I just happened to pick up on the 'Clear Case' looking weird first.

Absolutely nothing. Dye wants to build his monument on Ive's grave. This, in retrospect, was already evident in the Apple Watch Ultra, and now this brutalism and direction are apparent in the iPhone. He aims to be entirely different. While Ive made things smooth and minimalist, Allan wants them brutal. When Ive went for flat design, Dye introduced a new skeuomorphism (in my opinion, it's a poor skin because the user experience hasn't changed at all, and the system settings are overflowing with a plethora of unorganized features).
