(...) But i can understand as I have the feeling to go back to iPhone 5, nice colors but scratches magnet. Remember « piano black » 😅 (...)
iPhone 5 and 5S did really wear out fast, and especially in a case with some dust between the phone and case. Signature scratches along the lengt of the device. Hopefully they have retained some of the knowledge gained from that era.

it’s funny how people always said “You’ll put a case on it anyways” whenever Apple makes new colors for the iPhone, but now that there’s an actual durability issue, everyone wants to complain and get a refund instead of saying “You’ll put a case on it anyways”
You use "people" and "everyone", categories that just means "not me", as if you were talking about a single entity, making it seem hypocritical. That happens very often on the internet.
Maybe, you know, there are different people who think and do different things.

Let's hope you never work for a design or manufacturing firm. Obviously if you cover it from head to toe, it’s going to stay pristine. If Apple intended it that way, they wouldn’t even bother with a color.

People who never complain, are the ones that just are and as is. Even Jobs complained many times over his own hardware!
Fair point. Its obviously partly revenue based for better or worse. Caseless smartphone types upgrade more often anyway and their old phones are more likely trashed regardless of material, so I reckon Apple figure why not save a few dollars while making the phone blow off excess heat faster, and if someone still wants to abuse one of their pro grade phones that’s not their problem. Non pro phones have all released recently with previously pro features (except for the telephoto lens), so caseless types do at least have a few solid cheaper options.

Don't like this Jerryrig channel. He's constantly firing cheap shots at Apple over the years while being the first to make videos about their products for the clicks.
Yep. He gives them crap while praising Google and Samsung for sometimes nothing.
I guess Apple should be held to a different standard, considering they themselves do, but he is overstepping the line multiple times per video, even when he doesn’t even have an Apple in front of him.

I have watched every video of his since the iPhone SE in 2016, in case someone wants to tell me I’m watching the wrong videos or whatever.
His destain for Apple is very clear, just like who his favorites are.
But at least is isn’t altering his tests, just what comes out of his mouth.

I would expect scratching and scuffing in the first week from cheap Chinese knockoff.

Which costs 3-4 times less and is not marketed like some sort of a Jesus phone.

Selling uber-expensive brick of glass and aluminium that cannot withstand normal use without looking like **** is inexcusable.
I get your frustration, no one wants to pay premium prices and see scratches right away. Glass and aluminum look great but just aren’t scratch-proof, no matter the brand. To me it feels less like a scam and more like a design tradeoff: sleek looks versus durability. I do think the marketing sets expectations higher than reality sometimes.

I use a case and screen protector to maximise resell value, because iPhones hold their value so well, a scratch or ding is more costly than it is on other brands which depreciate much faster.

If you want to go naked for the aesthetics then I guess you are accepting that your phone will eventually get a few signs of use, this is the trade off.

In my opinion, his videos are just clickbait revenue. Watch a guy tear up a brand new phone in ways that aren't even normal, just so he can get get extra revenue. And the thing is, many people here use this video as some kind of proof of whatever conspiracy flavor of the year is. His videos are nothing more than "Looney Tunes" cartoons for tech head extremist of which there are a plethora of on the forum.

My 15 Pro went in a case on day one. Stayed in one for two years and when I took it off to sell, had a scratch on one corner 😂😭 It was in a Mous case so my example suggests both the phone and case were not durable - or more likely that some dirt got inside the case. Either way, it’s just part of owning and using a tool. Might get damaged, might not.

I think it depends what ‘heavy usage’ is classed as, as well (not a dig at you, more putting context to my point about damage on mine despite a case).
I have a visible scratch on my 15 pro display, other than that it looks like new and I am not using case.

Not just the 17 Pro it would seem. Look at the scratches on this new Air in the Apple store from just being attached to the charger!!

Exactly. Every use is different. Damage with a case. No damage without. A million variables and usages for where and how we all use our phones. There’s no guarantee of a flawless looking phone after ownership. Just use and enjoy 👌

but it should not be the point that you buy a case for paint chipping. Only really a case for when you drop it to stop smashing or stop it breaking!
With anything that is anodised aluminium (made by any company and any product), agree to disagree. Anything that is made to be held, put on surfaces etc is at risk of damage. The only guarantee is using a case. And in my case even that wasn’t a guarantee.

As I said above, we all just need to use and enjoy. Bigger things to worry about in life than any consumer based product not looking showroom new after ownership.

He's talking about a two-year old phone.

Not really.
His iPhone Air video is called "iPhone Air Durability test -- I AM SHOCKED" and he is shocked at how the phone "100% passes his bend test".
Most of his youtube persona is about finding weaknesses of phones and, since iPhones are undoubtedly the most popular models, they're often hit by criticism. But he's pretty much the same with phones of all brands.
None of them appear as cheap shots to me, they're actually things he pretty precisely measures in all models. And you can very often hear him welcome cool new features that make phone more durable.

In general, he's not anti-Apple by any mean.
Think you should raise your tolerance for objective criticism of brands you like.
(Edit: Or just dislike my comment without saying where I'm wrong, you choose ;) )

I agree, but I wish pro models had harder material for people that are not using protection. Aluminium will bend and glass will crack.

Understood. But there’s always a flip side. I’ve seen plenty of phones in the wild without cases that look far from new. How and where products are used is also a factor. And let’s not forget, my cased-for-it’s-entire-life IP15 Pro had a scratch on the chassis.

There’s really no use in anecdotal evidence based data points. Too many variables as to the devices usage during its life. All we can all do is what’s right for us. If a device is disappointing, speak with your wallet. Back and forth over the reality that products can show wear is silly (and now I’m annoyed that I’m adding to it 😂).

My perfect iPhone design would be glass back, titanium frame (even if it's 1mm), ceramic shield 2 (it looks like it's dealing better with scratches), and no case.

There are variables, but what of it? We are not trying to be totally accurate about every device. Instead, we can form general conclusions about the materials and design of our phones and we can indeed compare a device that is a couple of years old to a device that isn't even a week old. Just because environments and use-cases are different doesn't mean you can't see general patterns, and these are ultimately correct.

All we can all do is what’s right for us. If a device is disappointing, speak with your wallet. Back and forth over the reality that products can show wear is silly (and now I’m annoyed that I’m adding to it 😂).

So what is the point of the existence of online forums?

May be an unpopular opinion but I block many of these oft-mentioned channels on YT such as Jerry-RE. Wish a block would block them in search too. Alas, that would prevent propaganda getting through, and we all know the first thing we want when we search YouTube is mainstream news sources. They are the first ones to give us unbiased information. For sure. 100%. Totally. No exaggeration at all. Seriously.

With all this said... Has anyone tried these from dbrand? I know everyone wants the look of the shiny aluminum but this could help prevent scratches. Never attempted the skins before but thought about it for my MBP.
