Getting excited for this design change! The contrast of silver/white iPhone with black camera bar (as shown in the usual MacRumors AI sketch) would look amazing… MBP vibes! However, I feel like Apple will match the camera bar colour like on the new iPad Pro.

A huge bump on the back and camera bumps on top of it? Are they planning to bring a real 18-200mm zoom lens and APS-C sensor? In fact I am bored with the position of camera lenses on iPhones. Since 11 Pro they all look the same.

If this camera setup change is for the sake of change then it’s pretty lame tbh. It just illustrates that Apple’s standing in the tech world as an innovating company is in rapid decline.

I'm depressed seeing phones that just keep getting bigger and/or bulkier... Besides being ugly...
I did 3D Print a model of the 17 Air based on leaks and found that depressing too. Cool that it is thin, but it is huge. The thinness will make it lighter, but we will have to wait to see what the weight distribution ends up being but might even be harder to use one handed.

I don't want a freaking SUV, I want a compact sports car.

Why are all the rumors about the iphone 17 and iOS 19 about design. I don’t really care so much about design. I think both of those are fine. What i care about are certain features that are lacking. So when redesigning the iphone with this huge bump, what extra features do we get for it? Why are there no rumors about that?

I got used to the new design and I think we all love it when we hold the actual phone.

I have a 15 pro but giving it to my wife (she’s coming from 12 mini) and switching to a 16 pro soon. So I just watch and see this design change.

I’m not really feeling this redesign. If I decide to upgrade which I am on the fence about, I’m thinking of buying a 16PM. This redesign is actually ugly and I don’t know if I can get used to the new back camera placement. My 15PM can easily last another year with a battery replacement and new skin with a fresh new color.

Wouldn’t a glass to aluminum material transition on the back require more seals and make the device harder to repair? I mostly like what I’m hearing about the 17 Pros but this sounds like a step backwards. The glass backed iPhones have been great for the last… 8 generations? and are a nice call back to the days of the iPhone 4, which is one of the greatest iPhone designs of them all. Why change it? Keep it simple, keep it glass.

No interest. Looks to have the same ugly and uncomfortable to hold flat sides that we have had since the 12. No thank you.

I kinda liked this design, but the lack of innovation on the software is making me feel disappointed with Apple. Google is going to let android run Debian terminal natively, like some pixels do, instead of use termux to install it, as I linux fan and as a developer, it is very attempt to me.

There's less material transition if the glass area shrinks. And the glass is more protected so less prone to breaking. iPhone 5 was a pretty strong phone. Could save weight too, but this phone doesn't look like it's set to break any records. I just haven't seen a pretty looking render yet.

Make no mistake. Going back to aluminum for the outside frame is a terrible idea. Apple must be tired of the phones being so durable, thus lower repair revenue.

i've been saying that since the iPhone 13. I still hold my iPhone 12 Pro in hopes of it. AAPL doesn't innovate anymore.
I upgraded to the 16PM, I'm happy with it. I don't need to have a new phone every year, but do upgrade when something attracts me to it. Unless there is some substance behind this ugly ass bump they are showing, I'll be ok.

There would be no material transition if the entire thing was glass. The transition point just seems like another potential point of ingress and another obstacle to taking the device apart, or even worse - reassembling it.
I will admit part of me just likes the elegant and high end feel of the nearly all-glass design on the last 8 years or so of iPhones, so I’ll miss that from a “it just seemed nice” perspective moreso than any practical considerations. but I’m also one of those people who never uses a case and wouldn’t dare taint my iDevice with 35¢ of cheap plastic. Most people don’t even care about that.

Those metal plates look at least an inch thick in some places which makes me think they are perhaps casting parts for a glass back rather than the actual phone chassis.
As a machinist, I can tell they are unfinished. They still have the ears on the corners. They are likely moving on to the next op that will remove the excess and finish the final shape.

same. I may grab the 16 Pro if there's a good deal on them when this is released or wait another year.

Your right. It does resemble my MacBook Pro with the silver body and black keyboard. Really cool aesthetics. I also agree that I foresee it being a unified color and look more like the new iPad Pro.
