Lenses don’t have megapixels
It’s a conduit for the megapixels 😜

I think they should be pushing 400 megapixels these days. 48 is meh

If they turn one side of the iPhone into a sensor and attach a pro lense I think so many people would be happy, until they want to make a phone call.

I'm sure by then they will have added a few more suffixes just to differentiate it from Samsung.

iPhone 17 Pro Max EX Plus Alpha Ultra edition?

Major camera makers have announced they will be using next generation sensors in upcoming product releases. Their professional cameras will be equipped with iPhone 16 Pro as the sensor 😜

The more mpx you shove into a sensor, the noisier your images become. Anything over 48mpx (which pixel-bins to 12) is really a waste due to diminishing returns.

Not if the whole iphone surface is a sensor 😜

If I’m honest, for most consumers the iPhones cameras have been competitive with small dedicated compact digital cameras since the iPhone 6 and 6S. I’m still amazed how good my photos have been all the way back to around 2014.

It’s nice to have better and better cameras but not essential.

Should I stick with my 13 Pro until then? I was thinking of upgrading to 16 Pro Max this fall.
Stick with 13 Pro until Apple changes camera lens positions. Only then you get the feeling of a new iPhone.

it came to a point where I would just buy a Leica and use it for 5 years rather than upgrade iPhone every year just for camera.... could there be any other hardware upgrades other than camera and A chip?
The annual iPhone release does feel like little beyond incremental camera upgrades these days. Ultimately I still do both, but yes a Leica is a great value proposition when you compare it to an iPhone. One is several thousand dollars, but you buy it for life. The other is “only” a couple thousand dollars but you only use it for a year or two, three at best before it starts showing its limitations.

The reality is that the best camera is the one you have on you, and an iPhone Pro/Pro Max is a whole lot of camera to have slipped into your pocket and accessible no matter where you are 24/7. Even if you’re just buying it for the camera, it’s very worth it.

I can, and sometimes do pocket my Leica, but it’s not the most comfortable thing in the world. Particularly in jeans. Collapsible Elmar 50mm ftw. Doable, but not something you’d wanna do very often.

so we have to wait til the 17 model to get an awesome camera. late 2025.

shell out another $1700 bucks.

I went back to a Kyocera duraxe Epic flip phone. love it. long battery life. user replaceable battery. no government spy ware installed.

make the switch.

Next video she needs to build her own shelter in the woods, make a fire from scratch and hunt and forage for her own food.

Cool, but lame we have to wait another year. However, for me having a decent camera is important to me.

Depending on what we get in September I may stretch my 14 pro max another year.

Being spied on by the government is part of being a citizen in any modernized country, anywhere in the world. The trick is to be a boring citizen with nothing worth spying on ;)
