So guess this won't come to their top of the line 17 slim since the excuse apple always uses is there isn't enough room to fit them in on the smaller screens? Or will apple's hypocrisy finally show through and they put it in the smaller (yet more expensive) 17 slim?

Seriously, they could easily do that with the 16!! I’ve been waiting for 3 48mp cameras for 2 years already. So sick of this drawing things out just to make more sales when they could easily do it now. That’s why people aren’t upgrading as much they know Apple is ripping them off.
The Tim Cook way. Slow drip (while competitors wipe the floor with the iPhone camera). Maybe in 2050 they will catch up to Samsung, becuase outside of video, the iPhone camera (and its software) leaves a lot to be desired.

@the future I guess you have stock in apple and are okay being spoon fed features years after Apple claimed they couldn't do it LOL.

Samsung reading this will go first next year ahead of September
You think Samsung is just sitting around, waiting to copy Apple? Here's the rumors of the new Samsung S25 Ultra (early 2025, before the iPhone 17 is even announced):

Cameras: A quad-camera system with a 200MP primary, 50MP ultra-wide, 50MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom, and a periscope camera. A 12-MP selfie camera may be housed under the display.

After my mistake of buying a 15 Pro, I switched back to the 14 Pro because it takes more detailed and sharper 48 MP ProRAW pictures with the main camera than the 15 Pro. Unfortunately, the reviews do not compare the 48 MP ProRAW images of the two devices. That's why I'm going to skip the 16 Pro this year. It's unlikely that the main camera on the 16 Pro will get the IMX903 this year, but an upgrade of the other lenses in the 17 Pro to 48 MP would of course be nice.
Is the 15 Pro inferior because the Tetraprism lens isn't as good as a standard lens?

If they insist on retaining the insane supposed coverage of 24mm to 119mm on that main camera, I think they need a 200MP sensor. At least then in very good light the 119mm shots wouldn't look like total mush.

It's only about the 24mm main camera in 48 MP ProRAW. For some reason, the 15 Pro and 15 Pro MAX are less detailed and blurrier in 48 MP ProRAW than the 14 Pro in 48 MP ProRAW zoomed in and viewed on 32" Displays. Cheaper lens? Since I have looked at several 15 Pro and Pro Max, it is a mystery to me why there is hardly any talk about it and everyone only raves about the 24 MP of the 15 Pro and compares it with the 12 MP of the 14 Pro.

why not IMX903? Issues?

stretch? what is your 14Pro missing that you can't live without?

Cool, but lame we have to wait another year. However, for me having a decent camera is important to me.

Depending on what we get in September I may stretch my 14 pro max another year.

I saw this in a review in Spanish.
The thing seems to be that the iPhone 15 pro applies less sharpening. iPhone 14 was over sharpened and many people complained about the raw being too cooked and over sharpened, so the 15 should look less processed but the level of detail should be similar.

Rewatching the video, maybe it’s true that specially around the edges the 14pro looks sharper, but might be also a bad copy of that lens in the 15 vs the 14, as quality control issue…

Maybe, but I take a lot of photos of old oil paintings in museums and fine craquelures with the 15 Pro were simply no longer there anymore. Also, the closest focusing distance is slightly higher with the 15 Pro and the depth of field is shallower with the 15 Pro, indicating a slightly modified lens. I compared several 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max under the same light conditions and paintings, some usual variations in the corners of each individual lens but the detail and sharpness in the center was disappointing.

Cool. A better camera is... well... annual. Not necessarily a complaint, I like taking better pictures, but this heavy emphasis on camera upgrades is starting to have a ring of "they've got no other ideas" to it. Dunno what else I might expect but the clockwork "best camera ever in a phone" is getting monotonous.

None of this matters. The iPhone camera is already capable of most users' needs - snapshots and travel. If you need something more capable, then buy an actual camera.

this is incredibly annoying - more waiting for higher pixels? couldn't they have done this with the upcoming 16 pro max? more waiting...

They're really slow rolling each new update to the cameras and milking it over years eh. I understand the Tetraprism lens being larger, though somehow they fit it in the base 16 this year while the 17 line is supposedly getting slimmer. But the sensor isn't like that. I very much doubt it just so happens that they can only add one thing at a time first to the Max then trickle it down, so it's kind of annoying to see the deliberate slow roll to keep new things coming in later years.

Should I stick with my 13 Pro until then? I was thinking of upgrading to 16 Pro Max this fall.
I have 13PM, and so far, the rumors around what's coming in the 16 seems rather meh. I might hold out for 17.....4 years seems about the sweet spot these days to upgrade. My wife has the 15 Pro and there is barely any noticeable difference overall

Why is Apple trying to force it upon us go with the Pro Max for all the bells and whistles? Not everyone wants to carry a big phone around, the ability to use a phone one handed matters and even if I can use the Pro Max single handedly I would never want a phone as big as the Pro Max.

so we have to wait til the 17 model to get an awesome camera. late 2025.

shell out another $1700 bucks.

I went back to a Kyocera duraxe Epic flip phone. love it. long battery life. user replaceable battery. no government spy ware installed.

make the switch.

I could never go back to a dumb phone, I do have to say though that you have pretty eyes. ☺️

How do you know iPhone has govt spyware installed and how do you know the flip phone doesn’t?
