I'm hoping we at least get the option...
On EE you can convert your SIM to an esim, and also transfer existing esim to another phone via QR code. So if we get esim only iPhones 17’s in the UK then it ‘appears’ be a straightforward process.

The e-sim activation was really weird when it first came out, not a lot of providers had it, each of them used different activation method (at least in Europe), for some providers You needed to go into the store to get it activated etc. sometimes it was painful/bug ridden process that did not work 100% of the times, when I activated my e-sim few years ago it did not transfer into apple watch correctly few times, needed to go into the store twice to get it fixed, which took time, now You get a QR code from a provider or they activated in via their system and it should work without an issues, but still every carrier uses different method and at least in my country from like 10 carriers, only 4 supports it in some way of form, but only 2 of them for prepaid, and for contract they use different methods, not all of them support apple watch etc.

Apple has a page to check by country the providers that offer eSIM and the types of activation, transfer etc. they support:

As happened with the US, surely any new countries that get eSIM-only iPhones will not also sell iPhones with physical SIM. Some people in those countries might not be happy with that. I’m happy to go to eSIM when I’m forced to, but I plan to keep my 15 Pro for another 1-2 years.

The list on this link is not complete for Australia, my provider is not listed. Don’t think we can expect Apple to keep it updated for 200+ countries and thousands of carriers.

They should though, it’s very helpful to check there.

why does esim / phys sim matter to people ? Is it only people who change phones like their underwear ? I have only seen my sim once when i put it in my phone 3 years ago. I think it makes no difference if it's esim or phys sim?
In Europe, there are still providers that only offer physical SIM cards. I have a very cheap plan for $8 a month for a 300 GB, but the provider doesn't offer eSIM at all.

And it's still easier to use a physical SIM card when you go abroad than to look for a provider that supports e-SIMs.

I wouldn’t say easier. It’s honestly easier to travel nowadays with an eSIM for your trip than getting a SIM on the country you visit.

What is better about getting a SIM there is that you get a local number which could be useful. The travel eSIMs are data only.

Haha my OnePlus 13 lasts more than 24 hours without a charge. Every iPhone I've ever had needed to be charged at least once before dinner time.

If they are using batteries with higher density that actually weigh less, that is great. Just putting in a larger/heavier battery isn't much of an accomplishment.

When you go back a few years to now, battery life has grown a lot. This is a big year over year jump. It’s finally getting to true “all day” battery life unless you play games at full brightness and full volume for hours and hours per day.

I call BS when they say the battery will be bigger for the SIM card-less version. Which side of the current phone is the SIM card tray on? The side where the motherboard is. You can't have a bigger battery as the motherboard is in the way.

The SIM slot is at the end of the motherboard. I don’t know… maybe you could make the motherboard shorter?

I mean the sizes have leaked from regulatory filings so pretty sure at this point Apple has solved what you think isn’t possible. Lol

If the day to day battery life on pretty much any modern flagship smartphone is a concern for you (which is typically over 8 hours of screen-on time even for foldables), it is high time to go touch some grass. Seriously! :)
