This is a scandal that will hit Apple very hard, both financially and in terms of reputation!

Doubt it but, honestly, hopefully it does. I'm a diehard first gen iPhoner. Had almost every model in one form or another (they've gotten quite redundant the past few years). What I now see here is a giant company doing giant company stuff. A slew of departments all working on one tangentially related project or another and at some point coming together to create new phone.

That said, the lead time on these devices is easily a year or two so it's beyond perplexing that someone in the Apple ecosphere didn't notice this little scratchy stand showroom problem. You test EVERYTHING when you're the biggest company on the planet.

My comments for Air come true even after it is released. It does have overheat, cpu easily locked speed because of heat issue. Is it really that strong that even sit on it wouldn’t break? Time will tell.
It's been proven the Air won't break from sitting on it. It also does NOT overheat. So your comments that you stated as fact are in fact, false with no data to back them up.

I almost feel like this thread needs to be locked 😂 I think the point that needs to be learnt here is that everyone has the option to buy what they want. If you're an early adopter or buying day one, you do so without there being evidence of that devices performance because it's new. Same as you are downloading Beta's etc.

If you then choose to purchase a device and you have prior knowledge of the devices flaws, then thats on that person. My car had a known fault that wasn't manufacturer covered. I knew about it, bought the car. 5 years later, it went wrong. That was on me because I knew it could happen.

Let these people buy their Air's, Aluminium phones, different coloured devices with different battery sizes and different finishes and just be done with it-if it doesn't affect you personally, then it doesn't matter.

Many people already reporting and showing this overheating... CPU will slow down then.
Yeah, likely new devices that are still indexing and setting up.
The CPU will throttle on any device, you'll never get peak performance for sustained periods, the Air due to thermals will have a smaller peak window but they aren't just randomly getting hot in people's pockets.

And plus one for this too. My 15PM ran hot regularly, but the first day of installing iOS26 it was really hot and drained the battery, day two was better, day three it was running pretty much as normal.

It cannot even complete one cycle of stress test, speed locked down and slower than 17 Base.

For a lot of people, sitting on part of it would apply more than 200lb of force and break it.

Already starting to die down. Guess we’re getting to the take or leave it stage. Not something Apple can quietly fix either.

Sounds like the abomination that is Liquid Glass.

As ever, the Apple slogan remains...

"Apple: Take It or Leave It"

I was researching it ands didn’t even realize as a new iPhone user that this exact same thing happened with the 16pro and even before that a little too. So they definitely are aware. What is so strange is that even the scratches look exactly the same from last year. They are always these white colored marks that can usually be wiped off. It makes me wonder if it is maybe always something getting stuck in the ceramic and not really scratches and those that say they can’t get it off, maybe it is just very stubborn.
I’m not sure, but it seems strange to me that it would really be scratches from what I know of other ceramic finishes that are usually extremely resistant. I don’t mean chipping in corners as obviously that is different and the actual anodizing coming off from not adhering as strong. You can tell those though as you can see the underlying aluminum. They have plateau film protectors now though so that should protect it from happening.

I honestly think there should be if these can really scratch so easily.. I think that is ridiculous considering how long and how many phones they have made that cost a grand or over.. I’m surprised they could get away with it. While maybe not a popular subject with iPhone users, it is crazy to me that if you look at other stuff like knives or guns which sell many times less, they have pretty much figured out how to make them indestructible..so why can’t a big company like apple? It just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

I would not be surprised if we start to see redesigned display stands where the MagSafe pucks are entirely coated in rubber start appearing in stores over the next few weeks.

To be honest, this should have happened before the launch. Someone dropped the ball.

It's insane that no one at Apple thought about this. Someone must have been in charge of decisions like this and they completely disregarded the clearly very very high risk of scratches.

I’ve been here for nearly two decades now. Maybe when I was younger I would have cared slightly, but now I have way more responsibilities in my life to care whether the case of my phone scratches 🤷‍♂️

Yes I don’t really care much either.. it is just a phone to me. What I’m very interested in though is how a big company that has had this problem before can get away with this. It seems like it would be against consumer protection laws to falsely advertise it as durable. Also, I’m interested in what they will to fix it, imagine what their display store will look like after two weeks…

I think the best solution for them would be to just change the name to 17pro relic and play on it, run a commercial saying we like ripped jeans, banged guitars, etc.. now experience a first from Apple in the new discreet relic phones of 2025 that will surprisingly take a road worn appearance quickly to show others all your adventures and stories. Turn it into a feature.. lol

It's now ceramic (new) vs tinted glass (old, but still on regular 17 and SE). Different material entirely and ceramic is obviously prone to charging related scuffs/scratches thanks to whatever finish they use. My 15PM has zero of any of that after two years.

I really wanted to like the Air (Space Black in particular) but I use my phone caseless at home and often charge it that way as well. I'm sure that had Apple installed better designed display chargers without any metal edges we wouldn't be seeing as much of this. But here we are. For my own personal use case, I'm fairly certain that it would take much longer for a new Air to exhibit these scuffs/scratches but (to me) it's not worth what is a relative side-grade from my 15PM to deal with that down the line. Were I upgrading from an older model phone it might be a tougher decision 🤷‍♂️

And yet you found time to post this.

Yea, I take breaks during my workday.

Anodized aluminum is anodized aluminum at the end of the day. I don’t consider cosmetic flaws to be an indicator of “durability” so it irks me that these scratches are being touted by click supported content creators as such.

This is a forum for discussion, and not just an agreement echo chamber, right? At least that’s what I signed up for in 2008…

Needs to be locked so that people don't voice their displeasure at what are legit issues effecting a relatively expensive electronic device? Yeah, why help folks out by providing food for thought before they throw their hard earned money at Apple. Because YOU chose to purchase a vehicle (MUCH more expensive) that YOU knew was flawed? Sound logic.

I agree, it is a forum for discussion. So let's hear some and not "I've been here forever and I used to care about these things but they're now irrelevant because I'm older and busier and no longer do." Wouldn't exactly call that discussion. Not really worth pointing out that you don't personally think a cosmetic flaw in the design of a $1,000+ electronic devise is not worth YOUR time.

BTW, and not that it matters at all, but I've been here since 2008 as well 🤣
