Perhaps I’m just a simple man, but if that Apple logo isn’t centered in the MagSafe circle, I riot.

I hope case makers keep doing the full circle of strong magnets though. If anything, we need *more* magnetic surface area for *stronger* magnetic suction for phone grips, wallets and other magnetic accessories. So any display of *less* magnetic surface area kind of grinds my gears. Magsafe is a good standard for all kinds of phone grips/ accessories, in addition to the charging aspect.
Apple gave their MagSafe design to the Qi2 standard.

On the note of magsafe itself (and not the aesthetics everyone’s focusing on) I’m curious whether Apple prototyped smart connectors on the back that would line up with magsafe magnets. Could create a wireless charging method with less heat generation, or an ecosystem of powered or pass through accessories that stick to the back.

reading the comments, it almost seems like some of you think the MagSafe design will be visible on the rear of the phone!

🤣🤣🤣🤣Wow, people actually care what their phone looks like? It's a rectangle box that you talk into, pink, purple and green hair, giant bull rings in their noses, nuts and bolts in eyebrows, tattoos on your face...... worried about a box you can hide in your pocket or purse, you must lead sad lives.

I miss this. Also, is it time to go back to rounded edges again? It’s been five years.

The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are rumored to have a slightly different MagSafe magnet layout compared to existing iPhone models, and a leaked photo has offered a closer look at the supposed new design.

iPhone-17-Pro-Lower-Logo-Magsafe.jpg

The leaker Majin Bu today shared a photo of alleged MagSafe magnet arrays for third-party iPhone 17 Pro cases. On existing iPhone models with MagSafe, the magnets form a complete circle, but the new layout has an opening in it.

Majin Bu and Sonny Dickson said the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro models will be positioned lower than it is on current iPhone models, as a result of a much larger camera bump, and the new MagSafe design would ensure that the logo remains fully visible when these devices are covered by an updated MagSafe case.

iPhone case manufacturing sources told Majin Bu that existing MagSafe accessories will remain compatible with the iPhone 17 Pro models, so it appears that this change would be purely aesthetic, with no functional improvement. However, it has been separately rumored that the iPhone 17 Pro models could offer at least slightly faster MagSafe charging speeds than previous models with a future version of Apple's MagSafe Charger.

Dude’s rolling in his grave.

There's no way that Apple will actually sacrifice magnets and iconic MagSafe design just so they can move the logo further down and look absolutely horrible. There's just no way. I dont believe this rumor. Also, as for the camera bump, I can't see how case manufacturers are going to make cases for that. I see only two ways. One, leave the entire camera area exposed with a raised lip around it all, or two, have the same square cutout for the cameras, and then a separate cutout for the flashlight and LiDAR and microphone on the other end. That would look so UNFATHOMABLY ugly. (I do fw the blue color though it would match my MacBook Air color nice).

Looks slightly less ugly than the previous design - although that's more than offset by the camera lump now becoming a camera hump. 🤢

So then I assume case makers will still do a full circle magnetic array and not weaken it ?
MagSafe or QI2 compatible cases usually have a full circle in addition to the line, but except for a few really minimal cases magnets aren't what keep the case on your phone. Even my Anker Powerbank displays a full circle and a line.

What about the magnet at the bottom? Will that be for charging your airPods??!
No: That bar of magnets already exists in current iPhones and is there for maintaining orientation, primarily useful with any elongated portable accessory that is intended to remain attached to the iPhone while you're using it or carrying it, such as external batteries or wallets. It has nothing at all to do with charging; only positioning.

The change to the magnets noted herein is related to the removal of the bottom arc of the circle. I'm assuming the sole purpose of that is to cut costs; rare earth magnets aren't cheap.
