The rumours around the Air looks promising, something fresh and new to switch my 16 PM to. Most likely the design and some of the tech is a glimpse into what the foldable will bring hopefully next year so fun to test that out as well.

So the Air is most likely a day one purchase for me and hopefully they launch some Airpods Pro 3 at the same time.

10. Larger and heavier

If the 15 Pro to 16 Pro is any indication, the larger screen in the regular 17 will also result in a larger frame and heavier phone.
I'm thinking that is exactly what will happen. At that point the only light weight phone left will be the 16e and future "e" series phones and the Air.

Same here on the 17 Air, coming from a 16 PM.

The "Air" will last one product cycle, same was as the Mini. It's a compromise. When people get their hands on it they decide wasn't worth the hit in battery life and features and sales plummet. The battery life always hits these smaller devices hard. Thermal management is an issue as well.

120Hz refresh rate should have been iPhone wide years ago. Apple is behind the competition here.

Material changes? So wait, you run ads with TITANIUM in giant letters above them telling me how great TITANIUM is and go to aluminum frames for all phones including the Pro and you're gonna convince me this isn't cheeping out? The billion dollar company pinching pennies and cutting corners. Sounds like they WANT to push people to Samsung.

New Wi-Fi chip. Well, I suppose. How fast CAN I stream cat videos? Wait, cat videos are kinda awesome.

RAM increases and chip speed increases are pretty standard stuff.

We hear "vapor chamber" heatsink every year. EVERY YEAR. And it never comes. Psst. It's not coming.

25W wireless charging would be a nice upgrade, but no game changer.

I'll pay the extra coin to upgrade early like I do every year. I'm not going to lie and say I'm not. I'm a sucker for the best camera (why? To take cat videos of course!). This is how I "treat" myself every year. I get a new phone a few months before my yearly vacation so I can take nice(er) pictures on my trip. I'm OK with it. It's not a rational decision. I'll probably even order on launch day and wait for the UPS/FedEx driver.

But the thrill is gone. It's about as exciting as buying a new fridge.

Because Tim Cook likes to cut corners in order to maximize profits, the iPhone 16 used nearly the same design as the iPhone 11. If the iPhone 17 continues using the iPhone 11 design, then the iPhone 17 should be called iPhone 11ssssss.

You must have inside information. How much of a battery hit?

Excited with the recent rumors. Hope the orange color comes to the Pro models. Will be great if the telephoto lens remains at 5x.

I don’t know man, if I were to get a new fridge I’d get one of those that gives you ice blocks. That would be completely new feature for me. The phones just improve the existing stuff year after year. Nothing completely new.

Yet the 600,000 people who purchase an iPhone everyday of the year (on the average) would disagree.
That’s incredible, is that number accurate? That would be 219 million units a year?

Edit: checked this and it’s true. And actually more than that.

I'm just hoping the 17 Pro models don't have that hideous, visible "cutout" on the back that is prominent in all the renders. The back being entirely glass makes more sense than a noticeable "MagSafe area" cutout, and I really hope it doesn't actually look like that. The huge camera bump is starting to look good by comparison.

Other than that, I am looking forward to finally upgrading my 13 Pro. Maybe to a color that's worthy of rivaling the beautiful Alpine Green.

Meanwhile Huawei launches Pura 80 with a camera that absolutely blows iPhone 17 Pro out of the water. Features that will come to iPhones in 8 years. Embarassing.
Genuine question from someone who only takes casual photos and videos: when someone has such high requirements, aren't there digital cameras at comparable prices?
