Yep! My company only offers the 16e, and they buy whatever the newest budget phone is...before this, it was the SE 2022, which I what I have. We are eligible for an update after three years, but I've had mine for two so, not yet.

Everyone is on their own schedule, and they don't buy the phone until it's needed.
My company gave up providing phones, too many of the salespeople people didn’t like the model’s selected. Now it is bring your own and the company does a MDM and apps.

i have seen the 16e very discounted in some retailers, for 629€ the price is right, the main issue is the lack of MagSafe, it was a cheap move from apple. If there is a 17e they need to fix that.

It was indeed a cheap move -- but IMHO a cheap solution (or a case with integrated ring) provides the most useful advantage of MagSafe, even if it doesn't give you the faster charging of the MagSafe charging coil.

I just don't see this happening...they typically kept their budget phones around for 2 - 3 years before updating them. Especially since they just released the 16e this year, this rumor has little merit.
Yeah, Apple typically waits 3 years with the SE models. So we will see if Apple has changed their mind. Maybe with AI, Apple feels that the SE needs to be more powerful with the A19 chip.

Like few others have said, I’d be surprised if we get an update.

A $100 price drop would be better.

Else if apple wants to keep that price but is feeling the heat in the mid range - with lots of excellent android options out there - basing the chassis & screen (dynamic island) on the iPhone 15 makes sense.

Plus the latest chip, action button and presumably the cx1 modem from the air.

The entire point is the lower price.
With a genuine need for flagship specs I've bought the latest Pro Max model for years.

Then last year I had the desire to try a small basic iPhone for occasional use, so I bought the 16e. Frankly I'm shocked at how much I like this phone.

Ignoring the specs and evaluating the phone purely on how it works, I continue to be amazed. Small and flat on both sides with only a small bezel around the camera lens it's easily pocketable. It performs far better than anticipated. Or sure compared to other models it lacks some features, yet performs quite well. Never gets warm, has amazing battery life and is small and light.

There's just one big problem, in typical greedy Apple fashion they priced it $100 too high.

A terrific basic iPhone at a premium price, a testimony to their power, influence and arrogance. Yet by gouging customers they have built an empire to the delight of their shareholders. It's good to be Apple.

If my iPhone 16e gets stolen I would surely appreciate better hardware on the 17e. And I don't care about the official price anyway, Amazon sold me the phone for 150 Euros less!
Would you have bought it today if it weren't a 150 Euros less than retail price?

iPhone 17e is not needed unless they can drop the price to $599. I don't see that happening with Apple though.

They are on sale constantly and carriers routinely have then for $150-$200 or so on prepaid.

60-70% of people, in the US, buy their iPhone from the carrier anyway.

The 16e is probably a main seller for company businesses. Companies don't buy new phones for their employees on a yearly basis - more on a 3-year basis. So I think we don't get a 17e next year.

Different companies are on different schedules though. Not every company would have bought their employees a new 16e as soon as it came out.

Judging by all the "drop the price" comments, I believe a 17e/18e is more likely.

Apple doesn't want to devalue their products. Instead of lowering the price of the 16e next year, they will release the 17e while discontinuing the 16e.

I'm sure part of that strategy at keeping the higher price is one of the ways they can upsell to the base model.

Love the "add all the new features I want AND drop the price or it's a no from me bro" comments.

It's their cheapest model. Apple will likely segregate the market by making sure it doesn't have the higher value features of their other phones, no matter how much someone wants them. Those people can pay more to buy a phone with the features they want.

Nothing good comes from spreading it too far. iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e. What for?
I disagree. I would argue that the answer to "What for?" is a simple correction to your premise: Nothing good comes from not trying.

Sometimes you hit the jackpot, with an iPod or an iPhone... whereas sometimes you miss the boat entirely with a Trash-can Mac or a hockey-puck mouse. You simply don't know which one is going to hit it big until you try it.

The iPhones e are mid year models intended to take advantage of production and logistic capacities as the iPhones introduced a half year before reach production and demand equilibrium. So expect the 26e to launch around the same time next year as the current 25e did with his year.

Ps in years past, the S may have stood for Step (as in step change), the R for Renewal, and the e may mean economy, entry or equilibrium.

Let’s all just hope the price is reasonable this time
Possible lower starting price since the base 17 now has more value
It likely won’t change.

I currently have an iPhone 14 in excellent shape so I’m not ready to upgrade. But if I decide to anyway next year I’ll consider the 17e, 17 and 17 Air. The 17e would suit me just fine, but I would consider if it would be worth to pay extra for what the 17 and 17 Air offer.

Considering my needs I wouldn’t consider the 17 Pro or Pro Max. It would be wasting money for something I don’t need, which is never a good deal.
