The 16e is probably a main seller for company businesses. Companies don't buy new phones for their employees on a yearly basis - more on a 3-year basis. So I think we don't get a 17e next year.
Depends on what offers the carriers have for business accounts.

The 16e is currently $1.99 a month through AT&T Business.

There are times when the previous year’s iPhone is also $1.99 a month,

Or there are trade-in offers that can wipe out the cost of the latest phone entirely, making it the cheapest option.

Before I got my 17 Pro Max, I had a 16e…. Very good phone for the price. Took a little bit of time to get used to the smaller size (went from another Pro Max phone to it), but after a while it fit nicely in the hands and the battery life was solid and was close to the Pro Max I had.

Glad I bought the 16e ($539 Apple military) and didn't wait for the 17e. Slight bump in processor and Dynamic Island would hardly be noticeable to me. And I don't trust what 17e pricing might be. Coming from an SE 2.

Sorry, but 16e isn't "reasonably priced". SE was that, and even then just barely. We can only dream of $599 here. Local prices below. iphone 17 is 999e. Why would I buy this bare bones model? They are both extremely expensive for a budget phone which is the reason none of my clients buy any iPhones anymore. Even the SE was expensive enough not to make the cut (at ~450-500e/each) in some places. At 749e the iPhone 16e makes things simple: it won't even be considered anymore.

When is Apple going to realize there are people who aren't ready to pay 1000e for a _phone_. Those people don't need the newest cameras, fastest new chips or other expensive options. They want a phone that works in Apple ecosystem without breaking the budget. SE was that. 16e isn't. And as I'm pretty sure Apple will continue this new line with the 17e, it won't sell either. It's not about the features you get for the money. It's only about the money.

how to right the ship of the 'e' line:
  • give it 15w magsafe
  • give it a 120hz screen
  • dynamic island vs the notch
  • give it UWB support
  • prices starting at $499
MagSafe is for pros!

It was a surprising omission.

Maybe they wanted a modern iPhone for those with pace makers (seriously).

Think it will have dynamic island, newer chip, more color options and same price. Everything else should remain the same. Expecting to see it in April 2026.

I almost bought the 16e on price alone but, no precision find and no always on display? These are 2 of my favorite features on my 15pro. I'm guessing this will be the same on the 17e.

Most tech websites say to you, you need this or this new phone... The reality is simple, for example i asked 10 people and no one knows wich cpu or internals there use. And right there don't care about it.
We have reached point x, this means even entry level iPhones are now fast enough.

Why would they release another “SE” this fast? If it’s a low budget iPhone I don’t think its market target needs another one this early.
My wife's SE2 is still working, but it will need replacing sooner or later. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of cheapskates thinking the same. I'll keep my 12 mini until it breaks, but I won't buy a high end one anyway.

It kinda makes sense that the base 17 is so good this year because Apple not gonna update it in 2026, but rather in 2027 with 18e.

Would you have bought it today if it weren't a 150 Euros less than retail price?
No. But who in his right minds buys Apple products from Apple at full price? LOL! Everybody knows you don't have to wait long before there is a steep discount at Amazon. Heck they had it down by 50 Euros within the first week.

Thanks for proving my point. You just like to get it on “sale”. I argue to price it right out of the gate. Considering Apple sells 30% of its hardware direct to consumer, there are hundreds of millions of people whom buy products at full retail. So they would benefit. Including a ton here whom buy at launch. And not all indirect resellers like to sell below cost like Amazon, and sell at full pop the majority of the time. Apple has notoriously low hardware margins for authorized resellers - low single digits.
