Variable aperture will be a video focused feature. It will allow you to stop down to film at the proper shutter speed for proper motion blur. It will remove the need for external ND filters. It would make it a true run and gun filmmaking device.

I am still banging my head over the aluminum in the 17 Pro & PM. I WANT to upgrade but its a huge step down from the stainless steel of my 13 Pro. :/
Yes this change reverting back to aluminum is disappointing. Especially since it’s Apple themselves that made such a big deal out of offering Titanium on the prior model.

Much like the power and influence they wield over the user base making buyers wait, sometimes for years, before Apple offers features that competitors have long been offering.

Using the well worn refrain that Apple does it better is a weak excuse, yet the Apple faithful parrot it in lockstep with the company. It’s good to be Apple.

This is what happens when you have a cult following.
You can say up is down and then the next year down is up and the cult says "yes!"

I'm a professional photographer and literally couldn't care less about variable aperture on a cell phone. I always want it as wide as can be. With sensors this small in size, I'm just never in a situation where I need more depth of field and simply switching to a wider lens doesn't do the trick.

As someone who upgrades for the annual camera improvements, variable aperture holds little appeal to me. Like Fortimir said, "I always want it as wide as can be." Maybe the 18 will [finally!] be a version to skip. Of course we will need to actually see the iPhone 18 Pros; our commentary about rumors a year out are pure speculation.

Anything above 60 hz refresh rate is a waste of resources. Do you ever notice any difference between 60 to 120, let alone 180...
I absolutely notice a difference between 60 and 120. Most people certainly can. It’s very clear when scrolling— 120hz scrolls more like paper moving up a roll. 120hz is not the final frontier though. I have never seen anything above 120, but I’m sure it can be less choppy than 120, so that’s why I think adding an extra 60hz would make it even more like watching paper move.
