Also on 16P and it seems to run fine but I feel like two years is the sweet spot for trade in value, so probably going to go for it this year.

I think the real world cycle is rather in the fourth year when the battery starts to be significantly undersufficiant and apple updates the os to press even more on it as well as the overall performance. iPad 2 should probably still be good enough to stream Netflix and YouTube, but I remember that it pretended to be near death when just navigating the OS before getting into YouTube and Netflix to then stream a movie that played perfectly fine. I replaced it with the M1 iPad Pro and I am genuinely afraid to update it this year because it might just be the moment where apple prepares it to run like **** before it gets no updates anymore. Just look at how MacOS 26 murdered Intel Macs. It is downright rude what they are doing and getting away with.
 
I’m only upgrading If T-Mobile gives me at least 1100 for my current phone.

I’m already paying for go5gnext, I might as well use it as long as I can before they take that ability away.

Maybe some of the casino level addiction-ware in the iOS App Store could get in the mix and offer to "lower your payments" in exchange for play time on the slot machine software they push?

This phone is the perfect size for me, but in other countries it will cost around $3,000, and Siri doesn't work, AI dosn't work and neither does mirroring. It might be difficult as I'm using mbp daily, but I'm seriously considering the Samsung Fold 8 Ultra, which, after a sale, could be had for around $2,000.
I suppose it will gain popularity mainly in the USA where operators subsidize phones

Apple has trained legions of their devotees to use trade in and carrier deals to justify purchasing a new iPhone.

Ongoing payments endlessly, the buyers brag and delight in showing off their prized possession.

It’s a brilliant highly successful marketing strategy.

Nothing if not clever and masterful, they've created a juggernaut in the smartphone space.

Let them sell out, I don’t care. I don’t wan’t the phones Apple sells right now.

I will pick up my 13 mini very soon, with a new battery - I’ll be fine at least 2-3 years.
Then Cook is gone from operational tasks, and new ideas will enter Apple.

If they're so confident they're going to sell out, why are they going through the trouble to offer fancy smancy phone mortgages?

Sadly, history has told us that there are enough impatient people with money to burn to make scalping worthwhile...
 
AI told me just yesterday that I could save money by using an old mixer as a summing submixer for my drum machines, thereby avoiding me spending an unnecessary $3300 on an add-on audio interface. But I did have to tell AI that I had that mixer just sitting in a closet.

So now I guess with that savings, I can buy the iPhone Fold and still come out about $800 ahead. Just enough for my next trip to Sam's Club!
