Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro is very likely to come in a new deep red color, claims a Chinese leaker, because the color is already being prototyped by Android phone makers.

In February, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple is testing a deep red finish for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Rumors of purple and brown finishes have also circulated, but Gurman believes those are just variants of the same red idea.

Weibo-based leaker Digital Chat Station has now thrown their weight behind the rumor. In a post shared over the weekend, the leaker said there was a high likelihood that Apple is testing the deep red finish, based on the fact that they have seen the same color in prototypes of next-generation Android phones by rival brands.

It's unclear if the leaker is suggesting that Android makers have inside knowledge of Apple's color plans and are aiming to match it, or that the color's appearance is a sign of shared trend forecasting. Both Apple and Android OEMs likely rely on global color forecasting agencies that track fashion trends, and if deep red is "on trend," several companies could end up adopting it independently. However, Android makers are also well known for copying Apple's design trends.

According to Instant Digital, another Weibo-based leaker, Apple's iPhone 18 Pro models won't come in black this year. If the rumor is true, it will be the second consecutive year Apple has ditched what was arguably its most classic color option for the Pro lineup. The premium devices are expected to arrive this September alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone.

I miss the days back when the hottest rumors were about new groundbreaking functionality, new iOS features that were actually useful, camera and display improvements and so on.

Now it feels like most of the public are mainly interested in whether the color of the phone will match their outfit / car / whatever…

It’s just not very much to write home about anymore and even less a reason to upgrade beyond planned obsolescence.

There's still plenty of that, if you don't cherry-pick.

think the “groundbreaking” stuff has just moved under the hood. We might be talking about Deep Red on the surface, but inside, we’re seeing staggering jumps in NPU performance for AI and computational photography that would have seemed like science fiction ten years ago. The innovation hasn't stopped, it’s just become so seamless that we almost take it for granted

This is like red/desert sand or rust.

My favourite colours for decor (nature themed) 😂

It’s possibly the best iPhone shade ever.

Have competitors ever wanted to beat Apple to a colour before, after it had leaked for the upcoming iPhone???

Apple should go full nature - Desert sand, Natural Stone, Deep ocean blue, Forest green etc.

Since most people won't notice those "staggering jumps" in performance, it doesn't really impact the average consumer. It also doesn't help that Apple Intelligence was set up to be the new innovative differentiator vs older models, but has been a huge failure thus far.

Something tells me we'll have to sacrifice 'Deep Blue' to get this- not sure I want to make that trade-off. 😕

Wait, is that how they obtain so-called 'insider' information? Basing it on what the copycats are doing, not on actual awareness of what Apple are doing?

Essentially – inverting the Wayne Gretzky quote – just skating to where the puck has been instead of where it's going to be?

This site will solely rely on rumor fumes and AI generated content.
Innovations, motivations and creativity die with AI.

You can see the writting on the wall, one person debates if some commercialized front man of a youtube channel will like the new color or not as if its his idol, the other one has a essential crisis between picking between his current blue phone or a future red one.

Technology, inovations, progression, is no longer there to serve you but big corporations all you have left is to debate your favorite youtube shill or iphone color.

AI will take care of the thinking.

I would only buy one if it came in mini size.

The matte red is very nice, and much better than the product Red phone I had before my mini - that was glossy.

I have been saying that for the last few years that the really most exciting time of the smartphone release is the anticipation of the new colors. We have been at peak Smartphone technology and innovation for many years now, those days are long, long gone.

The article clearly states they're not sure who is copying who or if anyone is copying and are just following color fashion trends.

I can clearly see how all of this is going to be played out come September. This will be an iPhone X type of launch which back then we got the 8 and 8 plus with a brand new gold finish which was released before the iPhone X in order to not steal the iPhone 8 thunder and people who were impatient or could not afford the iPhone X will just go right ahead with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus preorder and leave those patient enough or who has the funds to go ahead and wait for the big enchilada. This will be the same only that it will be like: Oh man! Should I go ahead and just preorder the iPhone 18 Pro Max in Deep Red since it’s available now or wait a few more weeks (ugh!) and go for the iPhone Ultra 🤦🏻‍♂️

It's also become "good enough" that the average person doesn't really notice any difference year to year, or not enough to matter, anyway and things like the the NPUs are a pretty nebulous concept for most.

The color looks like what you get when you mix a little Cosmic Orange in with a nice, deep red -- this weird dusty, orangish "red". Personally, not a fan of this color. If it were more Red, then maybe.

Apple...the follower and no longer the innovator. But I'm surprised a "possible" color makes headlines, even here.

You’re right Apple is no longer the leader of innovation, they are last in the game and still achieve mediocrity at best. Shouldn’t surprise you the possibility color of a new phone would make headlines here. It pretty much speaks to the current stagnant nature of technology. Nothing really new or exciting just the same stories recycled week after week, month after month and year after year.
